Excellent video Bruce, and I am very bias towards GP as I have so many in my collection, but even this piece at full price is awesome value compared to other brands. While I do think the AP does offer the better band in terms of looks, this wears much better on my wrist to be honest having both in our family collection ( I say family as my wife & daughter have basically taken anything AP from me there days that I wasn't giving any wrist time but they were brand new pieces). If just purchased this exact model from a grey market dealer still new with the wrappers for same sort of money and they had acquired 100 of them, so when your buying at this price the depreciation or hit from the brand if your looking to flip, trade or sell has been taken out. As for me I only collect. Thanks for doing a wonderful piece on the GP.
Love this comment, pining it. Its great to hear a real enthusiast perspective that owns from multiple haute brands. I see the soft secondary prices as a great thing. Allows the enthusiast to get a much higher watch for a lower price. I hope my girls one day start taking over some of my watches :)
This is gorgeous. I actually like it better than the Royal Oak and I'd be sorely tempted if I could spare the cash. Alas, I'd have to put it on credit, and that's not something I want to do at the moment.
What an amazing review Bruce. You have such a great way of presenting watches for all watch lovers. Instead of saying this is a knockoff like the other reviewers, you actually give it a chance to live up to its own merit. I believe this watch is a great alternative to the other Gerald Genta watches you mentioned. I am truly amazed by this watch because of the quality and simplicity and value.
This can literally conpete with the best, from the holy trinity in finish and quality, not by brand power. And just for fun the Nautilus in person doesnt have the superb finish or looks which that hype around it shows. Actually the best simple sport watch is from VC , that with the fantastic blue dial and finish is a level up to AP or PP specially the details and the mowement.
No matter what you say. I will still and always be compared to the AP. And that is something i can not shake off. As much as i like the design, i can not convince myself do buy one :(
Another fantastic video, Bruce. I totally agree. It is great value for money. One of my favorite non design and mechanical features of this watch is the name, Laureato. If you didn't already know it means The Graduate in Italian. I would love to graduate into this piece, eventually. :) All the best, my friend!
If another Swiss company manufactures a better constructed watch at a lower price point, it is just a better watch. Don't buy a watch for the name, you'll regret it - unless all you are looking at is for attention (just don't call yourself a collector if this is your reason). Buy the better watch.
@@micahrobertson37 LOL that point of view is just as bad as people who only buy for the name of the brand. Buy whatever you like, who cares. If you buy one and continue to buy and keep more, you're a collector. Doesn't matter if you're buying based on value, specs, brand name, history.
The design of the AP is better.. more cohesive, better bracelet, beautifully rounded octagon. This is a crude shape by comparison It's a shame because I would love the black ceramic version of this watch but share the same feeling as you.. this isn't what we're looking for and lacks a certain cohesive identity
An exceptional piece, I can better understand the inscription on the box. A marvel as much to wear as for the eyes. See you in 20 years when prices will have skyrocketed. I believe the production is quite low at the order of 5000 pieces per year ...? Correct me if I say anything.
The first time I ever had the opportunity to see a watched serviced completely was a GP. I was so amazed by the complexity of the movement in this old gold watch that I have been a fan ever since. Maybe one day I can own one.
I really like the brand. The dial is stunning and really GP should be a lot more popular than they are. One thing I’m not keen on is the green looking luminescence - it reminds me of a Seiko 5.
Reason I am watching this is I like the look of the AP RO, the octagonal bezel and most of all the thinness. Although I could "buy" one (at retail price) tomorrow I cannot really "afford" it, nor would it align with what car I drive or my job role. I came across the Laureato 38 a couple days ago and find it very beautiful, but if you want an AP RO, the Laureato is still a compromise and -regardless of the heritage, the craftmanship etc- a very expensive one. It is currently available for around 9k Euros where I live and that is still alot of money for an item that I know I will not be enjoying that much after all. The 10mm height will start to bother me pretty soon... the hands are not my taste either. There is too much writing on the dial in a font I do not like. Personally, I would regret these 9k Euros pretty quickly, which is why I will be rather getting a cheap alternative like the Tissot PRX Powermatic 80, a Michel Herbelin Cap Camarat or even an Eco-drive Citizen instead.
I have a soft spot for the new Laureato, but I think it’s a shame how they dealt with the bezel, because you’re right that the original was much more subtle. More annoying is that they got the bezel right on the tourbillon model (much more slender), and it makes me wish they put that bezel on the standard model.
I used to think this watch was like a 6/10. Tried it on in Vegas a few weeks ago, and now I think it is a 9/10. I have owned or tried on about 100 watches in the last 5 years. This thing is really high quality. Impressed.
Fits much better on a smaller wrist than the 41mm RO. That has to be a factor as well; if you cannot wear it comfortably, it should not matter how iconic the piece is. Now, the jumbo is something else altogether... if you can get one.
Amit from Israel The Laureato was designed before Genta did for Patek, it’s a classic from GP. Yeah, ML Aikon is still my choice and easy on my wallet.
Not for me, but I admire the quality of the design and finishing. Compared to similar looking dress watches it is good bang per buck. Another great video, Bruce. I am too lazy to care about my channel so it's good there are guys like you out there.
Great video! I'm debating getting that watch. What is your wrist size? I have a 8 inch / 20cm wrist and am wondering if the 42 would be too big . Thank you in advance
The only problem GP has is their marketing effort is shite! They make fabulous watches but almost no-one knows who they are. For those of us who do recognise their qualities, there are happy times to be had buying in the grey market....brand new watches at anything from 40%-60% discounts!
I have a gp seahawk from the late 40s..it was a great watch until this dude I took it too had good reviews and they watch I got back had the lume missing from the hands and the movement stopped working..probly from the lume stuck in the movement ..I also gave him a 1960s Seiko which came out just fine..I love my gp but can't wear it now because of him what a waste of 400 bucs..just had to vent. Enjoy your gp
False. The watch didn’t sell well during its first year of production, but became a huge hit amongst the wealthy during the mid-late 70s. If it wasn’t successful, do you think Patek, Vacheron, GP etc would have launched their own sporty dress watches?
Double the gray market price and you can get into the top three with Vacheron Constantins Overseas, which offers 200m water resistance, an antimagnetic cage and the geneva seal... But else definitely tempting, i wish, they would have made one in full titanium, would be more durable and also lighter that way.
Hey Bruce, I have a 6,6 inch wrist. Do you think the 42 mm would be too large for me? I have a Speedy, how would you compare the 42mm Laureato to a Speedy on the wrist?
Bruce you are a magician with that 📷, Amazing! Beautiful watch, only thing i don't like is how they leave the spot for for the writing, wish it was just printed like on Samurai. But great watch for sure!
Yeah , it’s value if you’re looking for real quality watch making on a sports watch . When you consider what a nautilus, or Royal Oak will cost it’s well worth contemplation..I do prefer the Oak but as you say you have to spill much more cash ..
Bought a 42mm blue version a month ago. Movement is definitely hand finished and is amazing. Anglage is killer, black polished screw heads and 3 levels of hand finish on the balance assembly alone. A true high end luxury sports watch.
It looks awesome. But it will be always considered as an AP RO rip-off and that’s pretty sad. Furthermore, as this brand is so unknown amongst very most people, even more will think „Wannabe AP RO from no-name brand“, I‘m afraid.
Anybody out there with a link to ID these? interesting brands vintage pieces, I have several and have not been lucky enough to find a database. The discount margin really has me wondering what the used market will be in a year.

It's a great alternative to the Patek Nautilus, which is not available.
Hello ! I am watchmaker and i make this gp laureato 81010 !
Give us some more info then.
At this point, every wristwatch is a homage. People, wear what you can afford and ignore watch snobs period
In JAPAN, GP isn't famous but I think GP is one of the most high quality watch in the world.
It's the same in China
Quality>>>Quality
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more beautiful watch.
My grail watch for 2 years now.
With the blue dial, on a bracelet.
To me, this is even more impressive than AP and Patek
This is gorgeous. I actually like it better than the Royal Oak and I'd be sorely tempted if I could spare the cash. Alas, I'd have to put it on credit, and that's not something I want to do at the moment.
Good. Don't be an Archie. 👍

Great review, beautiful timepiece! Please work on how you are saying the name of these high end watches. You sound like a rapper.
Just got a 42 in black ..a whole nother planet compared to rolex...finishing is absolutely stunning

All the best, my friend!
I love GP, but I have this stupid feeling that I’m settling from an AP. Silly, but I can’t shake it.
J Lo I honestly prefer this over the AP, mostly because I hate that the RO only has 50m WR. That being said, I prefer the VC Overseas over both.

Beautiful watch Bruce. Your excitement is obvious. Do I dare say...enjoy your new watch?
I really like the brand. The dial is stunning and really GP should be a lot more popular than they are.

It is c1 superluminova

Great video👍 looking for a Laureato as my next piece😍
great video, im going to pull the trigger and add to my collection after seeing it on wrist with outside lighting. thank you
Fits much better on a smaller wrist than the 41mm RO. That has to be a factor as well; if you cannot wear it comfortably, it should not matter how iconic the piece is. Now, the jumbo is something else altogether... if you can get one.
More affordable than the overseas and arguably similar heritage and quality
beautiful, but I can not pay 8K and would like to go on a 2K Maurice Lacroix AIKON, which looks very much the same...only with ETA movement ...
I've owned the aikon. This is def worth the premium imo
Amit from Israel The Laureato was designed before Genta did for Patek, it’s a classic from GP. Yeah, ML Aikon is still my choice and easy on my wallet.
is not eta, is in house movement, GP
I like this, and the 38mm variant. If they made a very high quality rubber strap for this I would buy it in a heartbeat.
Dan Radkay Did you buy it in a heartbeat? Lol
Its beautiful piece but as you said it is too soft in secondary market. I can’t deny every time I see this I always thought of AP RO.
This watch is epic. A true watch person’s watch.
G.P. needs to get alot more attention there heritage and quality and Horology advances needs to be considered more for the value you get .
it's a dressier, less obtrusive watch compared to a certain octagonal genta design... also it has more water resistance
Good reveiw, looks very good for the price for sure. Thanx. P.S.
Looking to get one pre-owned ...amazing watch
Not for me, but I admire the quality of the design and finishing. Compared to similar looking dress watches it is good bang per buck.
Another great video, Bruce. I am too lazy to care about my channel so it's good there are guys like you out there.
Thanks Matt!
Love that classic Genta era design. RIP Mr Genta.
I love the GP, all the range but the value for money that you can buy this piece at is brilliant Bruce. HUGE GP FAN, ENTHUSIAST & COLLECTOR.
The Royal Oak is an overstatement, a la Genta (not a criticism). This is an understatement, genteelly Florentine.
AMAZING watch one of my fav!!
Nice watch good price. Great time to buy GP used. Currently saving for next purchase....if I had enough put back I word be seriously tempted.
Great video! I'm debating getting that watch. What is your wrist size? I have a 8 inch / 20cm wrist and am wondering if the 42 would be too big . Thank you in advance

@lolroflkartoffel123 I don't understand why it's so underrated and like you say unsellable. Really bizarre
Killer watch.....great content Bruce👍
looks great this watch
just picked up a new unsold 225th Anniversary 41.5mm Laureato! :)
Should note that the AP Royal Oak was not a big seller when it was released in the 70s.
False. The watch didn’t sell well during its first year of production, but became a huge hit amongst the wealthy during the mid-late 70s. If it wasn’t successful, do you think Patek, Vacheron, GP etc would have launched their own sporty dress watches?
I still can’t get over the Oversea’s bezel. Looks naked as if it had a ceramic bezel which fell off
It is a damn hot nice watch🔥
Hey stunning watch and impressive Video quality. What’s the name of the music in the intro?
GP always has a good movement but why isn’t so famous in south east asian? there are no second value at all but GP did very good watch ever

Is a modern overseas only 16grand? 🤔 Not too bad!
@@BruceWilliams Yeah, the gray market isn't all too kind to Vacheron in comparison to AP and Patek...
My 2 cents...I'd rather spend 6k on the mid-tier watch I LOVE, rather than on the high-end piece thats "similar" to the one I love.
Always buy watches you love regardless 😁
Lovely watch and great value used due to poor residual values. I would have it in my collection.
I am interested to buy this watch
Super Watch..! Great Value..!!👍
Greetings, what is the color of the dial?
Thank you

Very nice watch and good price 👍🏼
A Stunning beauty. Except for the polished center links, because i do not like that on a timepiece.
Yeah , it’s value if you’re looking for real quality watch making on a sports watch . When you consider what a nautilus, or Royal Oak will cost it’s well worth contemplation..I do prefer the Oak but as you say you have to spill much more cash ..
Just watched this now, did you end up buying it? Great looking watch and like you I love value for money items.
Great camera work on that opening
Did this watch sell? I may be interested
Whoever got this for $6k got a steal
Should I get one for myself? Although I owned 3 AP RO.
Yeah sure
Hello guys, do you know if this piece exists in 38mm ?
That is nice, a good second hand buy.
Красивые часы!)))
Its stunning
Is this dial black looks like grey?
Unfairly or not, this is always going to be seen as the poor man's Royal oak by watch snobs. Also, prepare to take a bath on the resale.
I Who said anything about Rolex? Why does Rolex always get included by someone in these discussions?
Video says this movement is hand finished, but isn’t this movement machine finished? Can you clarify?
Bought a 42mm blue version a month ago. Movement is definitely hand finished and is amazing. Anglage is killer, black polished screw heads and 3 levels of hand finish on the balance assembly alone. A true high end luxury sports watch.
What a stunning timepiece
Great watch Bruce, beautiful video. Is it 904l steel like Rolex?
That I don't know, I am assuming it is 316L like most brands use
Bruce Williams I have read somewhere it is maybe 904...it Could be another plus. Very nice watch.
Bruce Williams it is...Here is the answer monochrome-watches.com/girard-perregaux-laureato-chronograph-review-price/
Don’t get those asking prices for such a watch with a integrated bracelet and it doesn’t have something like micro adjustments.
The chrono version comes with the 904, 3 hander is 316
It looks awesome. But it will be always considered as an AP RO rip-off and that’s pretty sad. Furthermore, as this brand is so unknown amongst very most people, even more will think „Wannabe AP RO from no-name brand“, I‘m afraid.
How is the Nautilus any different? This one came before the nautilus or even the overseas
How much?
One day
Was this sold?
Is it still available
Yes sir
I really hate this watch 😅 to each his own right?
Always!
Coming up next gp laureato vs maurice lacroix aikon
I’m from VietNam
That looks like a cross between a Rolex explorer 1 and an ap Royal Oak and
Chris Agnew I’m not seeing any explorer in this ngl
Has this sold?
Yes
Anybody out there with a link to ID these? interesting brands vintage pieces, I have several and have not been lucky enough to find a database. The discount margin really has me wondering what the used market will be in a year.
Shame it's so uninspired as a design
you're not too bright are you? Did you hear him say that the Laureato came out few years before the royal oak and the nautilus?
Very tasty...
If it was the blue dial version, I would have jumped.
Who t f is " Adam are peegay"?
First!
Congrats on being number 1
They copied the $ 600 Victorinox Inox Automatic.
lol no
AP homage)))))))
You have no clue
for me better Chopard eagle
nice one
POS
Bracelet is ugly and the bezel looks like a wheel lug. I’d take the AP over this.
APRO? Everybody knows it's just an overpriced wrench.
Laureato always looks cheap, not luxury
Suggest me good movie but not a watch :))
