Another good thing to do is if you are taking any opioids or stimulates is to make sure you have evidence of the script with you to prove its yours particularly anywhere in Asia. I know it sounds nuts but the drug smuggling laws in some of those countries are so tough it is better to be safe than sorry.
Wheelsnoheels it's always good to check with the consulate. I have also heard through the narcolepsy grapevine to just avoid Singapore all together as you just won't be able to take your meds regardless of having evidence that you need it
Was just going to write that! I travelled to Spain last year and when I got there they'd taken all of my morphine out of my suitcase without telling me. I had to pay £100 to see a doctor and get some more prescribed
ugh how annoying though!!! My wheelchair got left in Singapore on the way to Sydney (did i say that in the vid?) It was along time ago i made to lol. I bet every disabled person has traveling horror story, unfortunately most travels have at least one drama!!! :S
Rachelle K I never thought about that but you actually should take a written statement from your Dr. with any med(s) you are taking. I haven't travelled abroad since being chronically ill... but you do have a valid point( or suggestion) Rachel!!! Thanks so much for that suggestion! I recently flew back home from Florida....& I had my meds with me in my carry-on bag. I explained to the person at the gate... that was all I needed to do, but thanks for the tip
Well you could have told him to f*ck off, but you're far too well mannered. I want to thank you for not just inspiring long hair, but inspiring LIFE for those not 100% healthy. Great vid as always, hope your holiday is fantastic. ♥
Im really enjoying your Vlogs. They are really informative, and very inspirational to others with a disability. I hope lots of other people will take inspiration from you. xx
I'm in a heavy duty electric power chair. Airports are great but people working with luggage and loading/unloading my chair literally busted my 1 week old new chair. Me and the flight attendant in first class watched the guy bust it than drag it on its side to load it. I was crying so bad because it cost 8 thousand US dollars and was new. The flight attendant gave me a hug and told me she would go with me to the desk when we landed. It took 3 months to get a new chair from the airline.
omg dude that is terrible. I hate putting my chair in the hold, the don't give a.....! Im glad you managed to claim against the airline, but it shouldn't be like that! they should be more aware. :\
I have a disability but I do not use a wheelchair. But I want to try some solo traveling like to the beach of Amy state or to another town, or to Disney World. I can not drive and I still at my parents house. I want to do solo travel to prove myself and my family I can manage my self and try to find a single girl. Also I want to go places like to the beach or to another town but no one will take me, etc.
Why not try a small trip away. Only an hour or so away and see how you get on? Traveling by plane is amazing as there is a lot of special assistance to help. Good luck. Im sure you can do it, you will be amazed at what you can do when you have to. xxx
Wheelsnoheels - Gem Hubbard I was thinking the same I’m thinking of maybe ride the train to another town this summer to go to a water park. Anyway great video!
i find my bus pass brilliant i can go shopping on my own.but beach was no so good i couldn't go on sand.as for Disney they put on free wheelchair taxi you and fellow travellers you check at disney services on left as you go in you get a pass you go to exit on the rides you want to go on you will be helped good luck
Jane Heseltine Thank you for your comment. I am disabled, cannot walk more than 1/2 block without severe pain. I use a 3-wheel electric scooter and Zi have found that American Airlines is super easy to work with. I ride the scooter to the bottom of the jet ramp, get in front it there to walk into the plane. Since I am boarded first, along with first class passengers or even ahead of them, I have plenty of help from AA’s personnel. They won’t even let me carry my own carry on! I park the scooter at the bottom of the ramp, then ground people come get it with the other ramp checked luggage, put it under the plane, and return it to me when I arrive at my destination. I have only flown with AA so I do not know how it is handled by other airlines.
I can't believe he said that I just found your channel and your so inspiring I have subscribed ur hair is such nice and long I wish I had hair like urs hope u had fun on ur holiday I'm going on holiday today to Ibiza I'm really excited love your videos keep the good work going
How do you keep your chair from getting damaged on the plane? My new one is so much easier to push but it doesn't fold and was a lot more expensive than my cheapy chair.
you can't. And I'm pretty sure the baggage handlers don't care in the slightest. This is why i was considering taking my old one (but its not as good.) the only thing i would suggest is making sure the chair is covered by insurance. I think you can get special chair insurance. or mine is covered under my home insurance. :)
I’m 15 and travelling to Austria from Gatwick airport, I’m currently bed bound and wheelchair so I’m really worried about flying but I have to go as no one can look after me if I stay at home. I have chronic pain syndrome and chronic fatigue syndrome, but pain is my main thing and it’s over my entire body ! Any quick tips you can type to me ??? And I’m a new viewer so would you mind me asking what your diagnosis is ? Xx
When you're on the plane, if you need to use the restroom, what sort of assistance is provided for that? I know restrooms on airplanes aren't wheelchair accessible... So what do you do? Just genuinely curious as someone who does not personally know anyone who uses a wheelchair. Thanks 😊
I don’t know anyone in a wheelchair either but I guess you would probably press the assistance button above ur head on the plane ? Please correct if I’m wrong thx
this is interesting. I struggle to the bathroom and my husband helps me. But i do know one lady who is severally disabled. She flew to australia, but had to break it up as she can't go to the toilet on a plane. or the go on cruses. I think if your disability is sever, then you can't go!! the "disabled" restroom on a plane is sooooo tiny, but it has handles on.
Hiya.. I love your vlogs about life with a wheelchair.. You are so inspirational.. You make me feel more confident about using it as I'm a part time wheelchair user as I have eds/spinal issues and fibromyalgia and I can totally relate to the guy at airport story.. I was going through airport security in America and I said that I happy to walk through scanner at the screening and a supervisor who thought she couldn't be heard referred to me as a lazy b%&ch..needless to say.. I was very upset.. X
OMG!!!! Thats horrendous!!!! Uhhhhh I can't believe she said that. This is why i make these videos! For awareness. Im so happy you have found my channel, and my videos make you feel more comfortable with your disability. :) xxx
Wheelsnoheels - Gem Hubbard.. I know I was mortified but as you know it's ignorance from people who don't understand or see wheelchair users as an inconvenience.. I've luckily only had a few odd comments..odd behaviour related to me being in my wheelchair.. Most people are very helpful x.. I'm feeling more and more confident and I'm accepting my conditions more because of vlogs like yours.. It sounds silly I know.. but I don't feel so alone dealing with different issues that come with my disabilities now.. Thank you again
ShawnaT M. I have to agree, everyone’s way of a “joke” is different and while some people think it’s inappropriate I wouldn’t have taken it to heart or anything, and he probably didn’t realise just how offensive that may have been, but just letting him know that would have been enough and I’m sure he’d have learned from that. He would never do something intentionally insulting knowing he could loose his job.. which he probably has by now.

OOOoo thats such a grate tip!! Im going to pin this comment :)

It's really cool that you're doing these vlogs! I enjoy watching them. I hope you did one while your were in Spain as well😜
ah thanks babe. no i didn't, I wanted to enjoy my holiday, but i have a very exciting vlog to come next. :)

Brilliant vlog btw have you done a London tourist or theme park vlog. That would be really interested.
Good video. Good advice. The hairstyles bit was somewhat wasted on me as I have severe male-pattern baldness. lol ( that started when I was 18! :|)

My hubby and I are both wheelchair users. We need help with insurance.
If I was in ur situation I would have slapped him lol
Oh he was so embarrassed when i lost it at him, that was with any slap. and the fact that, that moment will stay with him for ever is priceless! x
Which airport?
That was so rude and inconsiderate and I understand why it would have been upsetting.
ah thank you. I have had some shocking things said to me over the years, and this is defo up there.!!! xxx

I'm from India, a disabled guy ( not using wheelchair)
Wanna start a UA-cam channel on traveling..
wow, the man was just trying to make u laugh, and u try to make him loose his job?! done listening at this point.
