You know the worst part from Vegeta’s perspective? Here he is, broken, humiliated and thoroughly outclassed by both Cell after he hits his second transformation, and Goku, the man that realized becoming a Super Saiyan before him. And after all that, it’s neither of them that takes him down. No, this little runt of a half Saiyan, barely even out of elementary school, he thrashes Cell not once but twice and attains power that far outstrips anything he’s ever seen before. Man that’s gotta sting.

@@imonlysleeping4491 they kind of do. vegeta repeatedly tells gohan that he's become soft in peace-time, that he was such a stronger warrior when he was a child, and his frustration watching gohan vs. dabura comes directly from this idea. if gohan had kept up his training and wiped the floor with dabura like he could have, we probably wouldn't have gotten a majin vegeta.

Someone wrote a great summary of how Vegeta, at the start of the Buu saga, was weaker then Gohan during the final Cell blast and that is why he was so bitter; not only because Gohan could do better but because he, Vegeta, was the strongest only by default. But still, over all, it was treated as a more B plot then the Goku vs Vegeta side to the saga. It's been a long time, so I don't want to make a mistake based in nostalgia, but damn did they need Gohan to be the hero that arc. Toriyama had everything set but the pull back to Goku really defeats the overall story arc.
Depends on how far Beerus' planet was from Namek. It did take 20 years for Vegeta's scream to reach Earth if I remember correctly. It'd have to be closer than that cause between the time after the Frieza saga to when Goku returns to Earth, the 3 years for the Androids, the 7 years between the Cell and Buu saga, and I assume 2-3 years to the start of Super, that's only about 13.5 years

He didn't care much for Gohan slacking off his training and and his poor showing against Dabura. Goku may not be Vegeta's idea of what a Saiyan should be but he does respect his strength.
Yeah but they kinda just have a fucked fight history. I think it’s more that he’s upset that he always one ups him with their first fight goku kept up with him enough to make him furious followed by beating his signature attack, like even when he technically won his second fight as well it was’more of a sneak attack knockout followed by him feeling goku going SS3 which made it retroactively worse for him since he seems like he wants to prove he’s just better
