this stands out as one of the greatest performances in american idol history! As a singer myself the last note soar was simply a goosebump experience of incredible power!
Easy there, Phantom of the Opera is a musical, not an opera. Opera is significantly more difficult and also, sort of the charm is in the fact that there are no mics in opera, but this was a pretty good performance nonetheless
@@absdyna well he sang it good that's the important thing I Iove musical Theaters especially The Phantom Of The Opera which is so happens I Saw it on Broadway it will was so beautiful Andrew Lloyd Webber is a great Composer
+Screwy Girl A lot of the nay-sayers are POTO fans who have heard much better renditions of this song. Don't get me wrong, I love David Cook. But I feel like the passion that's needed to really make this song fly just isn't there. Then again, I've seen and heard a lot of awesome phantoms, so my expectations are pretty high.
I agree with you, I just don't hear the anguish and angst and pent up sexual energy of the phantom in his voice. He sings the notes (mostly), but that's about it...
I've watched probably a total of three seasons of American Idol... not usually into these singing competitions. This was one of the seasons that I watched and have to say David Cook's performance of this song was so good that I actually voted. He's the only person I've ever voted for on any of these shows and I was so glad when he won! He is incredibly talented.
He is hands down my favourite A.I. singer of all seasons, followed closely by Clay Aiken, and David Archuleta, and of the ladies, Angie Miller, Katherine McPhee, and Carrie Underwood...
For those who do not know-and would have wanted to know-there is full audio for Cook's rendition. and, yes, that high note at the end was for show; and, for the record, Cook sung this well enough in his own way imo
He's killing it right now as Charlie Price in Kinky Boots on Broadway until Sept 9th. If you haven't seen it yet and get the opportunity it's a must see. The show is incredible!
Fabulous performance!! My vet & his so enjoyed it they piped it throughout their clinic. They & I followed David's journey through Idol. He won & deservedly so! ♥♥♥♥♥. 👏👏👏. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐. M
Regardless of vocal talent, he is one of the few singers who got the emotions of this song right. Most singers either make the phantom sound emotionless or they make him sound pervy. The phantom thought of himself as just in an unjust world and I appreciate that being conveyed in this song.
Funny, Simon says he prefers the gritty side of David and yet, he chose "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" for David to sing and absolutely LOVED it!! I just love David's voice and haven't heard anything come out of him that I didn't like. I can't wait to see him in Omaha, NE next week!!!
i loved it...I'd been watching the whole season of 2007, not failed to watched every performance of this guy...DAVID COOK...great artist..and now, even love to review from this tube... love it...really love it.
He interpretted this song so perfectly... starting out like a whisper. That's how it's supposed to be. Many super-talented men have sung this song on-stage, but it's the soft voices over the strong voices that capture me.
Fell in love with Phantom, did the song in Chorus, saw it on Broadway, and I LOVE this version of Music of the Night. Wish someone would sing this to me like that :D
Wow..listened to this song live on TV...oh, how many years ago? Can't remember..flawless. Listened to it again today. Absolutely beautiful. I didn't like how he ended it but beautiful anyway...I like the softer sound of David. But he can sing anything!
this song has made me a fan of david cooks. Not because of the song, which i like but because of they passionate way he sings it. Well done David. Hope we here many more of your songs.
To all comparing David to all those technically trained singers please understand he has had no professional voice training just his raw talent pretty good cover I think and that "be" note is awesome.
one of the VERY best performances in all of american idol history. as a huge fan of phantom of the opera (michael crawford,) i found David's performance very impressive. he's amazing.
Holy...crap..... He has a perfect lust to his voice and like I can totally imagine becoming intoxicated by his voice like Christine. I think he'd be a GREAT Phantom.
Like all live Idol performances in Season 7, a 90 second edit of a song like this is very hard to pull off. Nevertheless, rocker Cook surprised everyone when he pulled this out of his hat. If you like it, look on YT for his studio version - which is truly stunning, especially for an over-the-weekend Idol production, only released for a few weeks on iTunes.
Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber is my idol if i have the honor of meeting him i would never forget it i saw the phantom of the opera for the first time in my life in march, i fell in love i was also Jemima in Cats at our local theatre David sang really will but i felt like he needed more passion
I find it interesting that Randy praises David's version of this song and Simon says he'd rather hear the "grittier" side of David and yet... When David sang "First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" Randy didn't care for it as much, said David was a rocker, and Simon LOVED it! WTH???? Personally, I love both songs and wish David had recorded them, along with the other songs he sang on Idol. He is an amazingly talented young man!
All these years later and I still remember how great this was so I had to look it up and it's just as amazing as I remember
Yes! Me too!
I was listening to the SF performance last night and kept thinking of this so I had to as well.
Omg me three!!!
this stands out as one of the greatest performances in american idol history!
As a singer myself the last note soar was simply a goosebump experience
of incredible power!
Exactly. I could and have listened to this song over and over again! The last note especially.
I was puzzled when they did the official recording without the final note. That note should have been released to the world!
There will only be one person who can sing this, and that's Michael Crawford.
"Don't laugh this is supposed to be a serious lesson here, I'm a gorgeous 17 year old girl..." Oh Andrew
So underrated as a singer. I don't know why his career did not take off.
Too many crazy fans
His rendition still gives me the chills.
He's a rocker singing opera. He did dang good. Love his voice.
Beverly Wheeler he still didn't need to yell out the highest pitch. Well I guess that's the only way he knew how to do it

@@chaconazo7 It's not. He does the quiet hold in the studio version, but he knew this would play better on a live pop show. Jeez.
Here in April 2020, after watching TPOO on UA-cam
I'm still listening to David Cook sing Music of the Night
2023
2024🙋♀️
Screw all you nay-saying commenters.....the way he sang this STILL gives me shivers.
+Screwy Girl A lot of the nay-sayers are POTO fans who have heard much better renditions of this song. Don't get me wrong, I love David Cook. He does 😍
I like the way he manages to give this song a hard-rock edge.
Crazy how he makes the small note changes to make it a vocal performance and not a theatre performance, bravo!
I got chills watching this for the first time. Watching it again in 2020, still got the chills. Bravo!
I've watched probably a total of three seasons of American Idol... not usually into these singing competitions. I watched this on TV 7 years ago and only just remembered it last night when I saw Phantom of the Opera. Wow, memories.
thats the moment when i knew he will win.
He is hands down my favourite A.I. singer of all seasons, followed closely by Clay Aiken, and David Archuleta, and of the ladies, Angie Miller, Katherine McPhee, and Carrie Underwood...
I voted through every single week for him , because I saw talent and potential. Awesome vocal , The Music of The Night is my favorite.
I remember David singing this song. He had me captive during the entire song. Beautifully sung........
This still gets me 16 years later! He proved what a versatile performing he is and why he deserved to win! Forever a Cookie fan!❤
That was just... wow. So much wow. My heart just burst into a million pieces.
This was the best season. I still can't listen to this without a big ridiculous grin on my face. Memories...
OMG THIS IS BEAUTIFUL!!!
Came here from the full London 25th anniversary showing for the Actor's Fund. Still love David's version. (Studio version even better)
I listen to this cover at least twice of three times a week because its beautiful and David Cook is my ultimate Idol.
i like how davids like "im 25!" when andrew lloyd webber says 17 year old girl. lol, he said that cuz christine is 17 in the musical hahaha
For those who do not know-and would have wanted to know-there is full audio for Cook's rendition. and, yes, that high note at the end was for show; and, for the record, Cook sung this well enough in his own way imo
This is the cover that made me fall in love with the song, the music, the Phantom, the Opera ..... and David ;)
Perfection! Beautiful voice! Just shows how amazing a singer he actually is!
How did I not see this performance? :o I swear, I don't remember hearing him do this song. But it's really good, I must say. :) Go David Cook!
2019. Still the best version.
For real though, if you like this pop-rock sound, at least check out one who can sing this style and this music.
Ramin Karimloo
ALSO, “falling floating,” he FUCKED-UP the lyrics, on top of EVERYTHING ELSE !! ! !!
He's killing it right now as Charlie Price in Kinky Boots on Broadway until Sept 9th. If you haven't seen it yet and get the opportunity it's a must see. The show is incredible!
I have listened to this an unhealthy amount of times
Fabulous performance!! My vet & his so enjoyed it they piped it throughout their clinic. They & I followed David's journey through Idol. He won & deservedly so! ♥♥♥♥♥. 👏👏👏. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐. M
still the same feeling ive watched it for the first time
Here in January 2022 after a sudden thought of David Cook singing this amazing song!
That's how I found some of his other songs! His version of Man in the box is 🥵
Regardless of vocal talent, he is one of the few singers who got the emotions of this song right. Most singers either make the phantom sound emotionless or they make him sound pervy. The phantom thought of himself as just in an unjust world and I appreciate that being conveyed in this song.
There will never be another like DAVID COOK..
Funny, Simon says he prefers the gritty side of David and yet, he chose "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" for David to sing and absolutely LOVED it!! I just love David's voice and haven't heard anything come out of him that I didn't like. I can't wait to see him in Omaha, NE next week!!!
i'm never gonna get over how perfectly he hit that note.
That first high note is just astounding
INTENSE
Fantastic cover
i loved it...I'd been watching the whole season of 2007, not failed to watched every performance of this guy...DAVID COOK...great artist..and now, even love to review from this tube... love it...really love it.
I play this song every night before i sleep....and it makes me feel so peaceful and calm.....
He hit all the keys. And he was completely in tune. David's performance was incredible!
He interpretted this song so perfectly... starting out like a whisper. That's how it's supposed to be. Many super-talented men have sung this song on-stage, but it's the soft voices over the strong voices that capture me.
This is my all time favorite American Idol performance. Gives me chills every time!!
Ragell sent me here, so glad she did, what a performance of one of my favourite songs
Fell in love with Phantom, did the song in Chorus, saw it on Broadway, and I LOVE this version of Music of the Night. Wish someone would sing this to me like that :D
2:18 is one of the best-hit notes I've EVER heard! Wow, David Cook!
I really wish Idol would go back to having Broadway night so we could have more moments like this.
I could never listen to this too much. Perfection. SWOON
David Cook is the most worthy American Idol winner.. Just my opinion.. 😊
still love it after all of these years
David Cook is my favorite in their batch. I love his voice.

The best IDOL EVER! There can only be ONE DAVID COOK! THE BEST!
He is my favorite AGT winner and I watched faithfully from year 1 to the last show. He remained my favorite
To all comparing David to all those technically trained singers please understand he has had no professional voice training just his raw talent pretty good cover I think and that "be" note is awesome.
Perfect song choice for him! It also shows versatility! :)
one of the VERY best performances in all of american idol history. as a huge fan of phantom of the opera (michael crawford,) i found David's performance very impressive. he's amazing.
Damn it David just be the phantom please!!!!
holy cow that's awesome. I haven't heard David cook do shit since he won, so it was cool looking back and listen to him again.
I remember him singing this song and I love it! Still love this rendition of that song from a popular musical!
Totally love this version!!! His voice suits the mellowness of Erik the Phantom. Hope he could have the role someday!!!
This is BY FAR, the best performance EVER on AI!!☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️
This song and the words are so fitting for a lover or someone singing to someone
He's making his Broadway debut starting this April 3rd in Kinky Boots! Can't wait to see him in the lead role.
The passion is in the voice!!!
Holy...crap..... He has a perfect lust to his voice and like I can totally imagine becoming intoxicated by his voice like Christine. I think he'd be a GREAT Phantom.
absolutely gorgeous.
i love that i think his live is better than studio.. its shows how amazing he truly is!
AWESOME!! JUST AWESOME!! i LOVE phantom of the opera and i LOVE this song!! I am also a HUGE David Cook fan...

Absolutely beautiful!
favourite performance by anyone, ever.
So perfect. He follows the music slowly, does not push along and holds back and then roars....
he has a voice! he can totally sing ANYTHING!!!!! his vocals are wonderful in this song!
My favorite performance of his when he was on American Idol
Still watching this performance
WoW!! This was great! It gives me chills! His voice is amazing! I really wish I could could sing in the musicals with half of that feeling!
im back ...and now listening again to the best rendition of this song!!!
Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber is my idol
if i have the honor of meeting him i would never forget it
i saw the phantom of the opera for the first time in my life in march, i fell in love
i was also Jemima in Cats at our local theatre
David sang really will but i felt like he needed more passion
i remember watching this. it was then that i decided that Mr. Cook was my favorite. i could listen to him all day. his voice is just so beautiful.
thank you!
One of my favorites.
smooth as ever!
waaaaaay too good.. omg i loooove it
he makes the phantom seem more of a loving person, rather than an entity a lot of people claim he is
Best version I have ever heard................. KILLED IT
Chills EVERY time. Wow.
Best rendition of this song EVER!
geezz.......he gives me the chills......woot woot!
One of my favorite David Cook performances ever!!
SO AMAZINGG
Still had these goosebumps david nailed it!
This is so beautiful - David Cook did a great job with the song. :)
He's the one guitarist American Idol had who was equally comfortable without his guitar as he was with it.
Came back to David Cook's amazing vocals after watching TPOO today and it's 4/2020!
I find it interesting that Randy praises David's version of this song and Simon says he'd rather hear the "grittier" side of David and yet...
