  • Setlist:
    00:00 Introitus
    02:12 Consumed By Repugnance
    06:00 Naraka
    11:35 Into The Soil
    15:41 Suttee
    18:36 Engulfed In Excruciation
    22:13 Fatal Self-Inflicted Disfigurement
    25:28 Butchered Identity
    29:47 Insecta Incendium (New Song)
    32:28 Calculated Barbarity
    There are 3 mistakes in there.
    1.In Engulfed I kinda got lost when the tapping part is repeated
    2.In Butchered in the tremolo picking part that goes into the chromatic stuff, for some reason I thought the tremolo picking goes up the octave the 2nd time too.It doesn't, but I got back pretty quickly (same mistake happened live too haha)
    3.In Insecta, when the two note staccato is repeated I kinda got lost because the volume of the song was pretty low on my headphones and the timing on the recording is wonky too
    Sorry for the mix and sound. I didn't record my DI signal and had to work with the recorded sound which had a lot more mids. The songs are from 4 different recordings so with one sound it's not easy. Naraka is probably the worst sounding song in this video.
    And no sound while tuning the guitar, didn' t record that haha.
    We also played Hunting Humans by Deeds of Flesh live too, but I don't really like that song, so I stuck to the DS songs. I'll probably record Reduced to Ashes some time in the future though ;-)
    So this is a video of my personal home rehearsal for my gig with Defeated Sanity at the Party San Open Air. This is how I rehearse before (session) gigs.My normal schedule for learning and rehearsing a set of a band is basically, I usually start a month before the show with learning the songs. I currently have a time-demanding day job which means I can learn about one to two songs a day. So a full set usually takes 1-2 weeks. After that I practice the full set for another 2 weeks everyday one to two times a day like in this video. One week of that is often dedicated to practice with a live performance in mind (not kidding, I like to move on stage haha).
    For Defeated Sanity, I traveled to Berlin two times to rehearse with Lille, the drummer and head of the band and then we had one full band rehearsal the day before the show. That concludes my adventure with Defeated Sanity for now. I can't commit full-time because of my job, so they are looking into different guitarists as of now.
    Now off to the next session job, which will be filling in for The HAARP Machine at their Euroblast Festival show.
    Enjoy the video !!!

      Nope they weren't. In preparation for this video, I broke another low E hahaha. I finally figured that it was the picks I use. I changed the picks for Defeated Sanity because the ones I usually use slip too easily which sucks for live playing. I changed from 0.88 Tortex Jazz III to 1.38 Jazz III Max Grip, and since I play with a lot of force coupled with the resistance of thicker picks, that's the reason the low E breaks all the time :D

    Is playing cheap guitars something you’re into specifically? Just curious. I kind of hate seeing people that can hardly play obsessing over what exotic woods to use in their $6,000 customs rather than just playing, but I can’t really go without stainless frets anymore so I can’t knock it too too much. love cheaper instruments for sure and gear doesn’t mean a whole lot, but knowing you’re playing a Gio is blowing my mind a bit. You’re a hell of a player man...the dexterity side of things has always been a big focus of mind with my playing and I love the tactile feel of certain riffs, mainly right hand focused stuff like Soreption...but what you’re able to play comfortably is just outrageous man. You’re one of a kind.

    • @KevinHeiderich
      @KevinHeiderich  4 роки тому +2

      Sort of, but this time it was actually out of necessity. I sold all of my gear and only kept what wasn't worth selling which was the GIO and the Washburn. The Washburn has a few dead frets which is the reason I don't play that one anymore. So yeah, I played the gio for the majority of the last years again. (It's my most played guitar btw, have had this for 10 years now) And a tight budget meant I could only buy one piece of equipment for the Defeated Sanity show, which was the Axe fx. And from there I just kept playing it because I like playing it and don't really mind it being a cheap guitar. (Though it's also a statement of sorts, meaning you don't need high end guitars to play good, but that's secondary)
      As much as I always wanted high end guitars I'm not that kind of guy I noticed. Function over anything for me. And after a certain budget, 1000€ to be specific, I'm just uncomfortable having something that valuable. Also, I get really picky the more money I pay for something. A guitar that cost 500€ has some minor flaws? Well, depending on the flaws, okay, I'm fine. But for 1000€? Naaah. And I do know that I'm just too picky. It's not criticism of guitars in that price range.
      And another thing, for some reason a guitar has to grow on me. Can't really explain why, but the GIO feels like home to me. (As did the M-II and my newly aquired RG350....the RGIX7? Not so much, depends on the day)
      So yeah, making cheap guitars sound good does take a bit more effort. Playability is the thing I'm missing most from high end guitars and second to that, the sound. But I play the GIO in high-gain settings most of the time and to be frank, it doesn't matter in a band like Defeated Sanity.
      TL,DR: For me the price of high end guitars (or just anything over 1000€) is not worth it. Yes, they do sound better, and they play better, but in the end, I can't justify having a guitar that costs a months salary, or more.

    • @isansimpson2056
      @isansimpson2056 4 роки тому +1

      @@KevinHeiderich Really interesting man! Appreciate you getting back to me about this. And I genuinely wasn't trying to be rude or critical about your gear. Again, it's really impressive what you're able to get out of your gear.
      Also wanted to ask, have you considered covering any Soreption songs, particularly from their Engineering the Void album? Seems right in your wheelhouse. Anton has pretty crazy picking technique where about 50% of the pick movement is just with his index finger and thumb movement. I've seen people do that, but never really with technical death metal.

      I used my axe fx back then. If I remember correctly it was the "Das Metal" model, which should be based on a Diezel. And I used two cabinets in series, which is not something you should do, but worked well to get that Defeated Sanity scooped mids signature tone. (I don't have that axe fx anymore, so I can't look up that preset).
      Christian always used his Line 6 rig, which is basically that signature Defeated Sanity live tone, if you're interested. Just a regular POD (2 I think) rack unit and one of the Line 6 amp models. And studio wise I think they used something different each album, but one combination was a JCM2000 with a distortion pedal at some point. (Distortion pedal wise I know they used a Fullbore Metal, which I think is a MXR pedal, and that Zoom Tri-Metal pops into my head but I'm not sure about that one)
