I grew up on James Carr down south in Louisiana during the early 60's. I'm nearly 70 now, and James Carr's music was in the regular rotation in the soul music arena. We all knew James Carr was bad. All the soul radio stations played him night and day. This music transcended races too. One of my favorite DJ's was a white announcer on WLAC am radio in Nashville Tennessee. His name was the Big John R (Richbourg). He played all the soul classics, and it was years later that I discovered he was white. He was so cool. Even in Louisiana, we could hear that 50000 watt clear channel station all over the deep south. He played Joe Simon, Dorothy Moore, Sam and Dave, ZZ HILL, Percy Sledge, Otis Redding, Lou Rawls, Little Milton, Johnnie Taylor, Clarence Gatemouth Brown, and a host of other stars a lot of people barely heard about. They became famous because of his and other DJ airplay on that station. They also sold records at record shops in Nashville, like Ernie's and Randy records of Gallatin, Tennessee. I miss those nights listening to my am radio fade in and out, but the delay was worth waiting for. I still love it all, and all races listened to that station. Soul is universal.
This was actually incredibly impactful in The Good Neighbor. Be nice, people. Don't harass, don't cancel. You never know what other people have experienced to make them who they are.
This is a great song and thanks to the movie The Good Neighbor I will add to my collection of oldies but goodies! This song matched the reason for his actions in the movie so well! 💯
Omg. I just finished watching THE GOOD NEIGHBOR. As soon as I was about to close out the movie this song came on🔥🔥 I haaaad to look up this song. I'm digging this 👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾
Kennth Carr ! Your Grandpa was a Hell of an Artist ! His music will live on and on forever ! I was introduced to his WONDERFUL music from the show ! I’m now 61 so when I grew up i was raised on Rock an Roll but in the late 70s I moved from Idaho to EL Paso TX and among the blacks was introduced to SOUL have LOVED it ever since ! You name em I like em ! P.S. I’m Hispanic NOT white ! ! ! !
I too just saw the good neighbor. It was saddening to find out why he was shaken by the events that unfolded. Unbeknownst to the teenagers, the old man was presently haunted by his wife's passing even after 12 years... Great story and very well written and saddened at the same time.. A Beautiful song as well, the song reminded me of a very good friend of mine who recently passed away March 7 2019.. He was sick and I looked after him and that day he passed, I found him dead on his bedroom floor.. I miss him, he was a good man, he was 70. I knew him 4 years..
I WAS WATCHING THE GOOD NEIGHBOR AND WHEN THIS RECORD CAME ON, I REALLY THOUGHT IT WAS OTTIS REDDING. HE SOUNDS JUST LIKE HIM. I CRIED OFF THIS SONG AND BEEN LISTENING TO IT EVERY SINCE.LOVE YOU GUYZ, THANK YOU. PUDDIN
Here I am three years after everyone else spending an afternoon watching 'The Good Neighbor' on Amz Prime. Suddenly the first for words of James Carr's 'Forgetting You' were playing. I had to stop the movie, Shazam the tune, look online for the song/album, and finally get to YT to listen to the entire 28 songs. The power of those first four words was amazing to me. Based on the comments of three years ago it was pretty amazing to a lot of viewers of the film. I, like so many, had never heard of James Carr. But it was a stunning experience. Great, Great Sounds!!!
This is one of the all-time GREAT soul cuts. James Carr was criminally underrated, with a fantastic deep soul voice. In my opinion, this song is his masterpiece. Magnifique!!
Man, James Carr... Such a mesmerizing and soulful voice. I believe every word like he experienced every ounce of joy, love and pain in every last one of his songs.
One of my favorite James Carr recordings. I can't believe I never knew about him until about 20 years ago. (I would also have loved to have heard Willy Deville sing this, but I don't think he ever did.)
Pandora introduced me to James carr one of the most underrated, unheard soul artists of all time some years back, and I've been hooked since. we need more music like this in all of our lives. I think we've all had enough of the twerking, killing, and drug dealing. let's bring the soul of music back.
The movie got me here, also. Liked the song as soon as I heard it, why, because they don't make songs like these any more. Never heard of James Carr. I just listened to 5 of his other songs and I have become a fan.
Lyrics As I prepare to lay down here alone dear I can't help but to keep wishing that you were here I done you wrong but now you are gone what can I do? don't make me live the rest of my life forgetting you it's too bad I didn't realize until you were gone just what it meant to have a love like you for my own but now that you've gone I can't go on living here without you don't make me live the rest of my life forgetting you Forgetting you it will be so hard I know but listen baby how can I forget you every day I love you more and more come back to me I'm lone and blue don't make me live the rest of my life forgetting you how can I forget you when every day I love you a little more and a little more how can I forget you when you fill my heart with so much joy how can I forget you when I love you all so much how can I forget you when every day I need you by my side Oh, I love you baby I love you from the bottom of my heart tell me tell me that we will never part I love you baby
When James hit that note , that wail what a masterpiece, it is all over what a great voice this man posses if you ask me who was the greatest Soul Singer, I think i would put him right up their with Otis RockHouse Redding
The best about watching the movie is that I became a James Carr fan. The first time I heard this wonderful voice. Right after I watched the movie I bought his first two albums from the 60s on vinyl
There’s a lesson to be learned from “The Good Neighbor”.... You never know what people go through. When people hurt sometimes they want everyone else to hurt too. Some people do it unconsciously, and some do purposefully
just a hurting song from the heart. I never knew such pain could be so beautiful.Especially at 1:37 in the song when it sounds like somebody just stabbed him in the windpipe. Somebody that he loved and didn't want to scream loud and wake up the house to tell on her. Wow.
Same here. The good neighbor brought me here and it expressed so much to the one I loved. And now she’s gone. She knows that I’ll spend the rest of my life forgetting her.
MY MISTAKE, I WASN'T WATCHING THE GOOD NEIGHBOR. I WAS WATCHING A HORROR MOVIE CALLED, DON'T HANG UP. THIS IS WHEN I HEARD THE RECORD, FORGETTING YOU NOW,BY JAMES CARR, WHOM I THOUGHT WAS OTTIS REDDING. NEITHER THE LESS, I STILL CRIED OFF THIS RECORD. THANKS FOR THE AWESOME MOVIE AND BEAUTIFUL SONG. PUDDIN

Lyrics
As I prepare to lay down here alone dear
I can't help but to keep wishing that you were here
I done you wrong but now you are gone
what can I do?
don't make me live the rest of my life
forgetting you
it's too bad I didn't realize until you were gone
just what it meant to have a love like you for my own
but now that you've gone I can't go on
living here without you
don't make me live the rest of my life
forgetting you
Forgetting you
it will be so hard I know
but listen baby
how can I forget you
every day I love you more and more
come back to me
I'm lone and blue
don't make me live the rest of my life
forgetting you
how can I forget you
when every day I love you a little more
and a little more
how can I forget you
when you fill my heart with so much joy
how can I forget you
when I love you all so much
how can I forget you
when every day I need you by my side
Oh, I love you baby
I love you from the bottom of my heart
tell me
tell me that we will never part
I love you baby
+רפאל שלום Thank you!!!
Hugs
