He decides in that moment that the only way the dhalsim will attack is trying to poke ryu moving forward. He dashes forward and heavy dps and tries to focus cancel it. It whiffed. This time he tries it again but instead of dashing for it by walking forward. It worked wonders
Another cool thing about the clip is that daigo also realizes that the option isnt entirely unefficient either since ryu will still keep all his meter unless he manages to counter poke the limb with a focus cancel

No one still playing usf 4 will be as good as these guys ever again. I mean daigo, momochi those guys like never lost playing ranked matches. In sf 5 its a lot easier to beat other good players which is what capcom wanted a more beginner friendly easier game.
I think 4 is better, but I honestly do see the idea that usf 4 is a little too defensive sometimes. its too easy to get away and play the keep away game. USF 4 could have used a guard crush system or maybe smaller stages or slower back dashes. Something to keep it more offensive oriented. SF 5 is too extreme the other way though
sf5 is watered down to decrease the skill gap. mvsc2 was decreased them mvsc3 even worse these new fighters all have come back mechanics to silence the weak players who can not win
