Three years later in 1969, Bob McGrath would begin his nearly 50-year career as the affectionate, musical, down-to-earth Bob on Sesame Street, warming the hearts of trillions of young viewers for generations to follow.
This is kinda interesting since this was a few years before Sesame Street premiered and would make Bob an icon. Of course, I recognized the real Bob immediately. He always had such a great singing voice, but hearing him sing in Japanese is definitely an experience.
I saw a recent picture of Bob McGrath. At 83, he hasn't really aged at all! I guess all that work on Sesame Street doing kids' stuff has kept him young!
I was four (born in 1962), too young to watch this show, and too old to watch Sesame Street (but I did for the first couple of seasons anyway). I had a couple of his records for children. Should've done some records for adults. Middle aged (my generation) adults...if we think we are old now, wait until THIS generation gets to be the age WE are now!
@@dakotanorth1640 Did you ever watch the baker numbers, ringmaster, pinball number count or the mad painter series?Would you believe they removed the baker number segments because Ms.Joan Ganz Cooney felt they were too violent.I don't see anything violent about someone falling down stairs with confectioners(sweets) in their hands.Shootings, that's violent, stabbings, that's violent, falling down stairs, not even close THAT WASN'T FAIR AT ALL.They should've kept them on.
@@seanmontgomery801 I felt sorry for the poor baker. I am autistic, and even though I wasn't diagnosed back then, the concept of slapstick was foreign to me.
Thank you very much for posting this on UA-cam. I miss Bob's singing on "Sesame Street". come to think of it, since Elmo took over and the show is half as long, I miss "Sesame Street"!
I wish they would show Sesame Street episode 2409 where the letters were D and P,the number was 2 and where Elmo had Bob and 3 kids play "What's in this box?"They guessed shoes, then socks and finally feet, and the latter folks began tickling Elmo's feet and the cute little monster was very hysterical with his laugh.Wish they'd show that episode ,also 2400 where the kids were letter T's,and they named 3 t words tiptoeing, tweeting and ticktocking, then Gina said"I know one",Elmo said"What?"then Gina answered in a rather crazy way" Tickle!!,and that's what she did to him causing uncontrollable laughter, kids did the same thing, letters were Q and T and the number was 5.They should show these live, not still, they keep taking their own sweet time. Also 519,where the girl imagines she's bubblegum and is tickled too.The Big Trip episode where Letters are B and P and the number was 7.Big Bird tries to find 5 things beginning with B in 70 seconds. Please make an effort and find/upload these episodes?
@Caroline Woodward Hi,Miss Woodward, you mean Abby, not Gabby. They should have 2400,2409,519 and The Big Trip Sesame Street episode shown,I wish they'd stop taking so long.
@Caroline Woodward I don't remember Elmo tickling Bob or Gabby getting tickled, but I do remember Elmo tickled by Bob,Gina and kids, even Celina tickled Elmo on his feet.I didn't know Elmo was so darn ticklish. Maria tickled him too on episode 2678 where the letters were R and Y and the number was 3.He's not the only one that's ticklish,The Pillsbury Doughboy and I are super ticklish too.
@Caroline Woodward I 'm currently single and I love ladies of all sizes.I wouldn't mind being tickled by a BBW ,even SSBBW if she was my girlfriend, Amazon,Glamazon would be darling .,Maybe if we were watching a movie and she tickled me,I'd be very hysterical and very ticklish. You'll never guess how ticklish I am.
I was born 19 years after this aired and I picked him out before the questioning began, lol ahhhh the 80s Sesame Street....before Elmo took over....those were the days :)
Oh wow! Bob McGrath three years before Sesame Street. Too bad that Bud Collyer never lived to see Bob McGrath on one of the most honored children's programs of all time. Bud Collyer died two months before, Sesame Street debuted on television (PBS).
I’ve never seen anything of this show other than this little excerpt, but you’d think they’d pick two other guys that actually knew a thing or two about Bob’s career or at least coach them beforehand. It’s no wonder the panel guessed correctly unanimously. Bob was the only one who could answer their questions while the other two just sat there like idiots.
Poston had been appearing regularly since 1959....and while the date for this show is correct, SING ALONG WITH MITCH ran from 1961 to 1964, and returned in repeats in the spring and summer of 1966.
Even in 1966 (my birth year) when they had no VCRs or DVRs, these panelists had probably seen the Mitch Miller show quite a few times during their original airings and had some kind of memory of Bob's face. I'm thinking. So, this didn't seem like the most fair round of TTTT. Still good to see Bob here.
Bob McGrath's future co-star, Carroll Spinney, would fare much better on TTTT five years later, all but stumping the panel. You can find that episode on UA-cam also.
This was so obvious just by looking at him and his answers vs. the others. Plus Joan Fontaine (1917-2013) was born in Japan and Orson Bean got those steambaths there.
It's not fair when people go like that, but you can always love them and keep them in your hearts and memories, can't you?I'm a Special Olympics athlete and I hope to accomplish as many goals and never retire.
Bob always had a beautiful smile. Rest in paradise, Bob ❤

RIP, Bob McGrath. :(
Rest on Peace/Power. This was Amazing to see. Thank you for the Great many episodes over the years, as I grew up as a child.
Just watched this so I don't expect a reply but...THAT BLEW MY MIND!! What a great voice!
Rest in Peace, Bob.
Rest In Peace 💔🕊
Love and thanks for so many wonderful childhood memories, and wishes for many more years of happiness and good health to you, Bob.

Shame we lost him at 90. May he RIP

R.I.P. Bob McGrath, a great Sesame Street legend!!
Addeendum to Bob's intro: "In three years I will be appearing on the greatest childrens show in the history of television."

Bob! And Tom Poston! And Orson Bean! Holy moly!
5:35 Bob McGrath number 3 wins!!! 🥇
Bob had already appeared on "I've Got A Secret" with this same story.

By the way, before he died, Tom Poston later married Suzanne Pleshette of Newhart's previous show.
Bob looks way young in this!

Bob McGrath 4 Dec 2022 (aged 90) Cremated
I recognized #3 immediately. That bell too fast, they should've had more time to question them.
No, I mean 'two'. Bud died in September of 1969, and Sesame Street premiered the following November.
Bob McGrath has performed on Sesame Street for six calendar decades, tying Kitty Carlisle from TTTT. If he can hang on 'til 2020...
This was so obvious just by looking at him and his answers vs. the others. Plus Joan Fontaine (1917-2013) was born in Japan and Orson Bean got those steambaths there.
#1 looked like a young Wayne Newton.....
Of course after 1969 it would have been even easier to guess the real Bob McGrath.
thatmuse76:
For several years, I didn't know Bob's last name; it was only after 1973 that I even knew he had a last name.
0:15 My name is Bob McGrath
Tom Poston!
Even if I didn't know who Bob McGrath was, the other two did a really crappy job of trying to be convincing.
Yeah, that's what I meant. Sorry for my mistake!
6:29 (me falls in love 🥰)
Omg same!
I hope Orson Bean was more pleasant off camera than he was here.
This is the same Tom Poston from Newhart.
Tom Poston looks the same from his Newhart days. Growing up to Sesame Street in the 80's, I knew Bob sang well, but not professionally
Randy, that's 'too'.
they all voted correctly. Bob didn't fool a single one of the panal.
Before Sesame St.
Bob is dead, and when people die, they don’t come back
