I often get my students to read past fiction pieces used in paper 1... Get a feel for the imagery they are, sentence structure, vocabulary. There's no reason why you can't define any words you don't know and try and use them in your own stories :)
My exam is tomorrow morning and im revising last minute just before i sleep ;-; this gave me great ideas and inspiration! thank you but i dont think ill be able to write this descriptive😅
Sir you have penned this entire story with beauty and simplicity in it. I surely and certainly want to do such and hope you will help everlastingly. Thank you very very much

Hello sir, I had a question, it might seem funny, but may I just memorize your essay and write it for my IGCSE paper 2? ( I'm going to change a few words inorder to suit the question) Will I get a 35+ mark 🙃
Very helpful and well-presented. You forgot to highlight an important stylistic element, namely "sensual" writing, based on what the first-person narrator feels, hears, and sees. This engages the reader and thus impresses the examiner! Strictly speaking, "The ING-verb" is a misnomer for the gerund, which is a nominalised verb, so a noun.
I really would like to thank you very much. I have watched your videos the night before my EFL exams and found them extremely helpful. I used some of your tips to answer my exam and I also wrote something similar to this video for paper 2 narrative using my own exam experience before. Ofc your essay was a lot better and effective than mine. I received an A* (91%) for my EFL exam and again I really wish to thank you for this. You really helped me greatly in receiving this score. I am very grateful ❤😊
One of the best piece of writing ....feelin a little jealous I can't write like that 😫😫😄😄😁😁...all the events in that story were exactly same as wht happened to me during my primary school exam.
hi there. i am just asking but isn't this ought to be more of aa descriptive than narrative?Due to missing of characters and all. Does the examiner deduct?
I am impressed with your work, sir! You always make concepts so easy to grasp for me. There is a question about writers' effect in paper 1 that I found a tad tricky. I tried to understand, but it was completely blank to me. I watched your lecture, but I am still having difficulties. Would you please help me with some brilliant tips to make it easier for me to do it? If you don't mind, I have a request. If it's possible, can you share a detailed walkthrough of Paper 2 1st language? Sorry for so many demands. However, I would appreciate if you could suggest some good books that will help me improve my grammar, vocabulary, punctuation, and writing style. Lots of love from Pakistan !!!
Thank you so much for your helpful material focusing on the post-2020 syllabus. As a relatively inexperienced IGCSE teacher, my students and I have benefited greatly from your videos. Earlier today I watched and downloaded a video of yours about one of your students writing a moving piece about an older couple after the husband suffered a heart attack and stroke... Beautiful. Following on that, if you do not mind, I have a question: as a teacher teaching the First Language Syllabus to my Second Language students: which one of Papers 2 or 3 would you go with, and why? Besides First Language (ELA), my kids also do IGCSE Literature, both to be sat in 2022.
Hmm I'm not too familiar with the second language course. My kids sit paper 1 and the coursework component. I also teach Lit-what texts are you doing with your students? :) PS. Thanks for your support!! :)
@@IGCSESUCCESS Thanks for your reply but I think you misread my original message ;-). I teach 1st Language too but am teaching it to 2nd Language speakers. So, your kids do the Coursework rather than Paper 2 (of the 1st Language Paper). That's what I am interested in: What would be your motivation for choosing Coursework rather than Paper 2? I agree with your choice, but I need some arguments to convince the powers that are of my opinion. That is why I am asking the question. Lit: following the 2022 Lit Syllabus, we have done Orwell's 1984; we're finishing the 15 poems this week (and loving it), and next week we move on to The Crucible. In May we'll start doing Othello.
can you please do a few videos on the descriptive options of paper 2 instead of narrative? I have my mocks coming up really soon and your channel is a life saver,, thank you so much!
I have my english first language papers day after tomorrow and on 12th, and so nervous. What should I do to stick to the word limits? Also, I start shaking as soon as I enter the examination hall and end up writing an imprecise response. Please help me out!
Don't worry too much about going over the word count, except for summary. Your timings are more important. Remember to breathe and plan your answers accordingly. Highlight evidence and make quick annotations. You've got this!!
Hello Sir! Your content is great, keep it up. Can you recommend some books to read, which helps in IGCSE English and in overall english. My english is good. But when it comes to the paper I mess up.
This is more general story writing skills - the length is more appropriate for a piece of cw. You wouldn't get penalised for going over the world limit, though...
It's a great piece of writing! However, since your target viewers are students, surely talking about examinations in such a scary and intimidating way just puts kids off and worries them. Teachers should be changing their students' opinions of exams, not worsening it. Don't get me wrong, I still love your videos, you've helped me so much when I come to revise.
If this is the question: Write a story that includes the words, ‘… nothing could have prepared him for what he saw …’. Can I write about a murder or a gory scene or will they not grade it?
I would say there is more description... But, ultimately it is a short story. There's a plot (albeit a simple one!); characterisation, tension, speech... Features of narrative wtiting.
Everyone has to do to paper 1 (reading)... Paper 2 is the writing paper. Most do these, which is the other 50% of the grade.. Others do the coursework option.
I don't think I would ever be able to produce such a beautifully described piece of writing 😩😞
Practice and lots of reading ❤️ you can do it!
Plz tell what should I read, it would be better if you recommend any novels, play scripts etc. Plz reply
