  • After breaking out into the league spotlight with his 2014 NBA Finals MVP, Kawhi Leonard began to assert himself as one of the premier players on both ends of the floor as he garnered back-to-back NBA Defensive player of the Year awards in 2015 and 2016.
Across those two seasons, Leonard averaged 7.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals, and 0.9 blocks per game, including a league-leading 2.3 steals a game in 2014-15.

One of the last great two-way runs the league has seen.

Bro I can’t believe he did that to wade. I watch the entire thing. you literally can’t come to his side he guards half the court him and Duncan pick and roll defense is the best I ever seen. Imagine kawhi offense know and this defense lord have mercy

Prime Kawhi before the quad injuries was an absolute monster on both ends each night of the season. It is such a shame that the speculated degenerative injury that he has, ultimately has cost him a decade-long prime of being arguably the best player in the game.

@@jay-bshighlightsandmixtapeI agree, imo he went from top 3 (2016)to number 1 (2019)to not even being mentioned in nba gossip… injuries have dealt a blow on a lot of good players. T mac. Grant hill etc…at least he got 2 rings tho

For sure! I think he sits with Bill Walton as far as guys who were "What If?" but still achieved championship heights as the main guy.

Glad you liked it man! Probably going to be a drop in Kawhi stuff from here on in as I focus on other award winners and season leaders, but he is such an effortless player to watch that it makes for quite easy viewing and doesn't ever feel like you are watching a long video. Hopefully we see a few more good runs out of him before he calls time on his career.

Glad you enjoyed it! Kawhi back then was so effortless in his play. Really built a solid foundation to be the man in the league but he has never been the same player since his ankle injury in the 2017 playoffs.

Honestly, his run through those 3 years is simply forgotten because of Steph, LeBron, Westbrook etc.

Hands everywhere. No where near him is safe to shoot or pass. From around 2014 to 2022, you didn't even call pick and rolls against Kawhi if he was guarding the roller. PGs would wave that off angrily when their guy brought Kawhi to their dribble.

Pretty much. Kawhi reached that level of controlling the game without the ball on both ends that hadn't been seen since LeBron's zenith from 08/09 to 12/13.

I still remember the Bulls play where they isolate Jimmy and Kawhi so that the others can 4v4 without Kawhi disrupting the Bulls offense lmao

Not only does that speak of his physical ability on that end of the floor but the extremely high IQ on the defensive side of the ball.

It's a tough situation for the Clippers with Harden and Westbrook. Just think that they're trying too hard to load up with pieces that don't fit the puzzle.
