North African / African population's mass presence in France started in the last 20th century. Whilst French imperialist presence in North Africa started already in the 19th century. (**Ottoman Empire doesn't have much to do with that, as its European regions were in southeastern balkan europe). Plus, Marseille has great impact of other non-french communities and immigrants from throughout history (beyond the more recent North African/African influence), like Greeks, Italians, Spaniards, Jews, Armenians, Lebanese, Corsicans etc. In sum, making Marseille a truely mediterranean city 👍
Marseille seems very chill as compared to bustling and hustling in much bigger city up north. Will definitely pay a visit and most importantly want to watch Marseille play
Thanks for this very Nice video of my City ! Everyone is welcome here, Marseille is a city of sharing and mixingis , glad to see you again in Marseille :)
This is well done! Randomly found you. Please keep it up, such lovely work💕 Also not the best grammatical French but so good and a lovely effort! Your pronunciation is pretty ok too!
Thanks. I really need to get back to France and practice I want to be fluent. I had a great time in Marseille. Thanks for watching for travel stories coming.
Will, thank you for your concern about language with regards to "color coding."Will continue to follow you until I get to Marseille: one of my dream destinations!
Your are most welcome. I hate when I see unfair characterizations of people and places. Hope this video and my channel can shed some light on many of these underrepresented places.
Thank you! I really enjoyed it too. It was just SOO HOT walking around in the day was pretty unbearable. I’ve always wanted to catch one of these local processions, so I was pretty lucky to be there for Assumption Day.
Great video. However, Marseille or any part of France (or Western Europe for that matter) was never ruled by the Ottoman Empire in history. It stopped at the Balkans/Central Europe at its most extensive time.
I visited Naples last year, it had a terrible reputation, but we (two adults, two kids) found in almost underwhelming. Lovely place though, just not super smart like other cities, but that was the honest charm of it.
Exactly! And NYC probably has an even higher crime rate but nobody would tell you not to visit NYC. You are going to have a blast! Marseille is awesome. Enjoy.
And dear americans, europeans can also cook. We have in countries like France or Italy an enormous cheese-culture for instance, flavoured spicy cheese, that is very particular to Europe.
@@WillRamireztrue but i know some neighborhoods were you should watch out at night or dont go in dark valleys for the rest in tourist placed and bright places its perfectly fine!
I like how Will walk around city centers and tourist areas and say "oh i see no danger here!...!" Everyone could tell him that much. There you could run in to pick pockets, scammers and beggars.
I 100% don t recommend visiting Marseille, in the first part of the day you would see drug dealers in the port, city center, everyone is checking you top to down to see what they can steal, it s very dirty, i was last year and I can say Napoli or Brazil feel 1000x safer.
Marseille is not dangerous, it´s safe!!!!!!!!! I feel even in Francfort or Paris unsafer than in Marseille and in the darkest place of Marseille it´s safer than in bright areas of the USA or Brazil etc. Come and visit Marseille

I just came back from Marseille 2 days ago & I speak French even though it’s kinda of broken but everyone was super friendly to me I was out until 4 am… I made friends with some Francophones & I was walking around and cycling whilst wearing my jewellery no one seemed phased …. It can’t be any worse than some areas of London in my opinion. I would speak French more at night to blend in and not stand out. I can tell it’s a lovely city that has two sides. Nothing that a bit of street smarts can’t take care of. I would love to visit again it’s definitely got some rough edges but it has style for sure 👌🏾🇫🇷
Dude, sounds like you had a blast in Marseille! Those late-night adventures and making new friends is what it’s all about. Can’t wait to hear more about your next trip! 🌟
Marseille is a city bustling with anxiety. After visiting so many cities across Europe, I have never experienced such impatient citizens. Everybody seemed to be in a rush in this city which is famous for probably nothing except for garlic- and saffron-flavoured fish stew called bouillabaisse. A city which predominantly is the second largest city and the oldest city in France and also boasts a port has nothing to offer to its tourists except cat calls, union strikes, poor uber facilities, lack of civic sense and very poor infrastructural facilities. When I planned to visit this city in-spite of so many mixed reviews, I always thought that this city will have something to offer to its visitors, but alas my worst nightmare has come true. As I gasp for some freshness in this city, I am only welcomed by a nagging sense of insecurity and fear of harm. This city, in a nutshell, is not at all tourist-friendly and a city to be left alone on its own. The local residents are happy among their own as they show no intention to welcome dreamy-eyed traveler who wants to explore the hidden beauty of Marseille.
Good video, but there is one thing. American always assume that „white people“ in general aren‘t cooking flavoured food. Perhaps it‘s true for some anglo-Saxons in industrialiased USA and in ober urbanised western european cities. But it‘s certainly not true for Europe. We are good cooks, and the good cuisine in southern france isn‘t just reductable to norther african influence. Southern europeans are meditereneans to. Secondly, french or italian cheese is extremly flavoured, something the middle-east doesn‘t have also.
Ottoman empire? No man Its because of France as a colonial power in Africa Now those are decendents from Africa whose Grand Grand patents were slaves to mmm hey frenches Mostly white then So to the math columbus

Hey man, love the vid. We are going to Marseille this month what's the name of the beach club at plage du Prado you went to?
That’s so exciting and I am very jealous.
The club we went to was called La Rhumerie. Enjoy!

We arrived in Marseille on the day Alexis Sanchez signed with the team. Would’ve been awesome to experience the atmosphere there as well
The Sandy beacehs are more towards Camargue, English Channel, Atlantic Coast and some on the French Riviera
Yes, I have a lot of exploring to do on the Atlantic and north coast of France. So much to see. The beach in Cannes was sandy and beautiful.

The North-African heritage is the most visible there due to France's colonial history and Marseille being geographically close to North Africa.
