I know im a bit late, but in case anyone needs to know this tip - to make money faster, keep an eye on when your next payment comes in, and when it says "1 day" pause the game, and go around and disable several building which have upkeep costs. Such as the Inn, or other "amenities" buildings, a farm or 2, and the stockpiles. You CAN disable all buildings to get the most profit, but if you're short on resources, i recommend keeping at least 1 running of that resource.
Then, after firing all the buildings, push play, and once your payment comes in, pause again and re-employ workers to said buildings!

I hate games with coverage systems, I had to walk 3 km as an 8 year old to get water from a well that had dead frogs in it and I was a happy kid. Game looks cute though.
