    This knife is my favorit. In my opinion it is better then meny mor exspoensive knives (tested it side by side witch: Bravo 1LT, fallkniven F1, Enzo traper and many more). I used it constantly for 3 years.Greetings from Poland.

    I Never liked small knives , I'm a Big Knife Kinda Guy , But this Lionsteel M4 Totally Blew Me Away , I never realized how Handy a Small knife could be and this M390 is Amazing. I have XL Hands and I'm always worried about if a small blades handle will fit my hands , but the M4 fits really nice 👌 , But if your hands are Bigger than mine this Blade is Not for you . GREAT Review Kevin , I Totally agree with You. I also have the M5 and T5 and they are also Fantastic Blades ....👍 🖖

    While the handle portion of the steel tang is nicely rounded on its edges (as noted in the review), it still can be used on a ferro rod to start a fire. The end of the handle has a sharper edge that works very well to generate sparks while the knife is safely sheathed. Great review(s) on the M4 btw, which motivated me to get one.

      Too thick behind the edge and not the best heat treat for that steel. You get what you pay for but still,because of the perfect handle design,materials sheath etc,it is still a great knife indeed.

      @@greekveteran2715 Which knife are you referring to? I like the M5 size/thickness better than the M4 but despite the confusing claims of Moletta, the Sleipner steel that the M5 is exclusively offered in seems objectively inferior to the M390 if the M4 and the knives cost the same.

    • @greekveteran2715
      @greekveteran2715 3 роки тому

      @@DL-ij7tf I'm referring to almost all the Lionsteel knives.Most of them, are very thick behind the edge. That being said, their Sleipner has noticably better heat treatment yet, it's a bit softer and not as tough as I would expect a tool steel to be. Generally Lionsteel has great designs, some of the best handle ergos on the market, unfortunatelly, their heat treatment on steels, are very poor compared to the overall design and quality. PS M5 is one of their best fixed blades. B35 seems it has the best blade geometry. I also like the newer B41 but I don't have tested it yet.

    • @DL-ij7tf
      @DL-ij7tf 3 роки тому +1

      Even with a softer heat treat I'd think that M390 would still be a quite large step above Sleipner. Thoughts? Seems like M390 is one of the best steels available and Sleipner would be solidly middle of the pack.

    I don't edc ficed blades and I prefer scandis in the woods - but I still love the M4! I've got the olive version, which looks surprisingly different actually. The unique pattern on each handle gives it a more organic feel, I guess. The G10 version looks great too and gives the same design a much more moden appearance. Anyways I'm totally guilty of not using this beauty enough although it clearly is a fully capable user... Glad to hear the steel is holding up!

      Real utility knife use requires the strength and durability of a fixed blade, because with folding knives there's always the fear that the locking mechanism will fail and cut into all your fingers, which would really.... suck

STAIN THE HANDLE I used ebony stain and it’s incredible now. Literally soak it in stain over night and then let it dry for a day then wipe it good. Finish with spray polyurethane.

    Hey I had seen someone was able to spark a fire steel with the m4 rounded spine. I haven't managed to find the secret location for that to work. But the bottom of mine had a 90 degree angle like a little pomel that strikes it great. Any idea if they changed the design a little over the years the review I saw they never even used the bottom to spark fire steel.

    I have a similar sheath for the B40, and I hate it. It's the wrong shape and bulkier than it needs to be. It is almost ambi but there is a cut out where right-hand use from your belt is much easier (and safer) than left-hand. I've not had much luck finding an aftermarket sheath, it's just not that common of a knife to make it easier. My only option is to make my own or pay someone a fortune to make one.

    I recommend you try the new Lionsteel B35 fixed blade , similar in size to the M4 though much thinner at 7-3/4 overall length and a flat grind blade length of 3-1/2 inches the handle thickness is 5/8 inches wide measured from the top of the handle .The B35 has a sharpened end at the back of the handle to strike a ferro rod .The sheath is similar to the M4 .It is a very nice lighter weight all purpose fixed blade I have the micarta handle version though I would not mind buying one with a wood handle . I bought mine at GP knives other sellers have them too.

    Just to let you know the Master hunter is full tang. What you dont see is that it is about 1mm under the moulded handle all the way round. It is not a rat tang. I will agree it is not an exposed tang but is just as strong. In 3v it is a tough blade but quite fine compared to the san mai version. It is desingned for hunting so not a full on survival knife. I would carry a silky saw and strap a terava scrama to my pack for camp chores. Just my thoughts, enjoy your content.

      These knives are both great but quiet different the M4 is a little more suited to work as it's full very comfortable handle make it something you can really put some force behind. The sheath on the M4 is comfortable but a bit bigger and of course not scout carry. The Guardian is a bit nicer for EDC with it's compact size but the small handle means it's not quite as nice for prolonged or really hard cutting tasks. Both would be better with a Kidex sheath and movable clips that could be clipped to a waistband. There are aftermarket options for both that can be set up this way.

    The micarta version is so much better! Micarta as a material,isn't so much lighter than G10.However,on this knife it is! Since nothing in nature is perfect,let me show you,the imperfections here.The G10 version is much havier,than a knife this size should be,which is a serius issue. One issue is the balance,which many people don't know how imortant it is and they only think,that it has to do with throwing knives.2nd is the weight it adds to your load and the fact, that it will make you to grab another knife to use,than the small and very heavy (there is a reason people love Moras and that's one main reason) Another flaw of this knife,is the thickness behind the edge,which is 1mm (too much for a knife to cut properly) Another flaw is the steel and the heat treat.Even though it's a small knife, a super stainless,is more suitable for a folding knife,rather than a knife designed for harder use.Newer Micarta version,fixes the most serius issue,is was the weight and the balance.That being said,IMO it has the best handle design,than any knife on the market! It simply can't get any better.The sheath is great too. In use, it is a great feathersticking knife,M390 carbides cut like no other steel. It could have a better quality heat treat, but if they made it higher hrc that many people say,then the edge would be brittle! Overall it is a great design,that worth every dollar you spent.Just go for the Micarta or the Walnut version! PS there is a very well known kydex maker brand,that sells the perfect kydex sheath for this knife.That's only recommended, only if you hate leather,because it's factory sheath is still great!

      I'd say I like the g 10 better. I agree on weight with most knifes but some are just better with heavy handles. And mostly small skinner knives. Helps it stay in your hand better when butchering deer and what not. Alittle slippy when bloody but still better then there micrada
