Your now "My Guy" for information about hockey! I have no doubt that Seattle will embrace this team and appreciate the rest of the league allowing us to be a part of the magic of the NHL! I've always watched the NHL playoffs as I think it's one of the most intense games of any sport. Hopefully I'll be able to enjoy it even more in the future watching the Kraken! Interesting history (that I'm sure you know) is that the former Seattle team... Seattle Metropolitans made seven postseason appearances in their nine seasons, playing for the Stanley Cup three times between 1916-17 and 1919-20's. Also the Seattle Metropolitans was the first American team to win the Stanley cup in 1917. (Got this information on Wikipedia) Obviously more than a century ago but still interesting I think. Now in the modern era I'm excited to be a fan, learning the game and I look forward to hearing your opinion moving forward. Go Kraken!
The NHL broadcast was fine, many are trashing it - whatever. I did like it that they saved Vancouver for last and pedalled the Vancouver name to build the rivalry. The Canucks will eventually have a similar head to head record with Seattle like they have with the LVGK. SMFH.

Shanon I'm sure you've already seen, but its since been clarified that there were, in fact, no *pre-draft* trades (what most people call 'side deals') which probably would have been announced similarly to Vegas when they had their go at it. Francis' price was either too high or teams just weren't interested. The trades being announced tomorrow are just going to be trades flipping who they've drafted to other teams. Francis is going to have a lot of work ahead of him once Free Agency hits if he's not going the immediate tank route.
I think they tried already with free agents. Rumors Landeskog, Hamilton, Schwartz all told them No deal. I think they then decided the allure of Connor Bedard is too much to pass. Now they built to tank 2 years.
I was hoping Toronto would be able to keep McCann and Seattle takes Kerfoot but, unfortunately, that didn't happen. Not that I don't like Kerfoot, but I think McCann is the better of the two.
@@DeViLzzz2006 neither was since neither are close to the Leafs top 4 forwards, and the Leafs wanted to keep their D corps together. What was brain dead about that?
Donskoi and Landeskog are both the players that fought and took hits in front of the net. I think losing Donskoi alone is a massive nutshot for avs if they want a cup in near future.
Thank you Shannon for this vid. Congrats on predicting 14 of the Seattle picks, I managed to get only 9. The draft went a little different than I thought, while they really solidified the defense (expected), they got three young goalies that are on the cusp of being a really solid group. What surprised me was they did not gather much in the way of offensive power. Likely where the extra d-men will be used in trades to get some firepower. While the cap space will be tempting to use to go after free agents these tend to be expensive and overpriced, Ron Francis is a smart guy and will be prudent to make good choices. Leadership: good pick up to get Giordano and very wise to get him in Seattle early and sell him on the idea of being a Kraken. Really smart to have him on board and presented to the city and other new Kraken players. Seattle is going to love Gourde, Tanev, Appleton fast, high energy guys, with opportunities to move up the roster these guys will have more pop in their offensive numbers.
no, it’s bc their asking price to not take certain players were crazy. that’s why toronto traded for Jared McCann. it’s cheaper to deal with another team.
They might make a few trades and sign a couple of expensive free agents but they won’t have a team close to what Vegas had. Sure the GMs learned from that but they still picked a few players with almost no trade value when they could have picked players for trades.
Shannon great presentation . Have you thought of doing a caricature on your merch coffee mugs instead of the big sunglasses ? Your eyes and eyebrows in caricature would be enough to make them fly off the shelves ! Really .
Yes, they are clean indeed. A bit boring and safe though... and that's paradoxical with such a name. They could have gone a bit further with the whole Kraken thing (I don't like the name, but well if they chose this one, go for it !) Not a fan of the color scheme either, quite bland
One of the best parts of the evening was the Carolina Hurricanes' Twitter response to ESPN calling them the "Carolina Panthers." That, and the Carolina joining in with them. Hilarious! The 'Canes have a heck of a social media team!
You would think, as a "celebrity" that you would ask someone how to pronounce the name of the guy you are gonna announce. It isn't like it as a secret before hand or anything.
they have work to do upfront for sure, its not a bad list though. I understand no ufa , why waist a pick on one now when you can have a offer in and just swing back later and double dip from a team.
I might be chewing my words in a few weeks but the offense on this team looks bereft , Vegas at their draft packed a bigger punch up front and in nets with Fleury
As a Pens Fan from Kingston Ontario it would be nice to see the pens tank for Wright since it would be sick to see Wright develop all the way through his career. Especially with Crosby.
My problem with Vak is his size. He’s small but he also plays small. I think if he’s seeing significant minutes then the Bruins are in trouble. I’m personally hoping the resign Reilly and sign Suter.
I also think we won't see an expansion again. No way. 32 teams is insane. Im sure we might see a few relocations over time. Maybe Quebec, Houston or something like that years down the line.
Edmonton has to ask themselves why Larsson (in the prime of his career) would choose to leave a team with the 2 best players in the world for an expansion team for the same money. In other words, what does he know that we don't?
He knows he will take home much more money because income taxes are much less in the state he is going to verses anywhere in Canada. That’s why Canadian teams can’t compete in the salary cap era, they have to overpay players to compensate.
The thirty picks they made have a serious lack of scoring…though I’m liking the defense and goaltending a lot. We’ll see how Francis does in the offseason.
Seattle couldn’t copy Tampa Bay’s d-core so they took a look at Montreal’s d-core and decided to copy it by selecting a lot of big, heavy and physical d-men. Not the most talented puck movers, but they can grind down the other team’s forwards. Big d-men will also be very valuable trade pieces this off season. They must have figured that they would only have a contender in a couple of years so not picking Price makes sense. Price would have been the one to take if they though they could build a cup contender right away. Looking forward to the moves that they’re going to make.
If anything comes out of the comical show that was the draft last night… NHL gonna be the meme of ESPN for years to come. Chris Fowler ruthless AF as the host 😂😂
I agree on the "players that were there aren't getting traded" that was my first thought when they started walking out. It seemed like a decent draft, handful of good players who can start right now and a handful of tradeable players. I just hope they don't break up the Fleury brothers. I thought they were both there but you don't have Cale listed as there.
You said they had to many defence. Anything worth going Winnipeg's way? Be interesting to see what Winnipeg will do in the next little while. Chipmann keeps saying the defence is a priority to fix but yet doesn't make a move that is seen as significant enough to do anything.
Seemed like a win win for the Habs whatever way it went. Either they lose Price and gain 10.5 million in cap space, or they manage to keep both of their top goalies. No loss for the Habs either way really.
Believe it or not, the fish throwing is a big tourist thing. There is a decent crowd outside that stall waiting for the times when they throw the fish. Yes, really. No, I don’t get it either. But it is indeed a thing.
Teams got grit and good young goaltending, I predict they’ll do pretty good this season, probably not as good as Vegas in 2017 but still have a good first season.
I honestly can't wait to see what this team can do. And weirdly enough. I'm not a NJ fan, at all. But I was super happy to see them grab Bastian. I hope they hang on to him. In the few NJ games that I caught this season, he was a feisty young player. Great to see.
I don't know why. No one, absolutely no one, pronounces the names correctly (the non-english names of course). People always obsessing with the names and yet there isn't a single american (or canadian for that matter) that can pronounce the names correctly.
In Europe, we are pretty used to the americanized way to pronounce our ”weird” names. No offense taken. BTW, Jarnkrok (or as it should be spelled - Järnkrok) translates to ”Ironhook”..

Also the order they were drafted in was weird because it was Alphabetical by Division, going from East to West (Atlantic, Metro, Central, Pacific). That's why it started with Boston, Anaheim and Arizona were both western conference
Mark Giordano can hopefully be the face of the franchise like Fleury was to Vegas!
They should nickname him Gio Brando.
As a Calgary fan, I am going to miss Giordano. He was so good for us and so active in volunteer work for the community. His wife too.
Good luck Giordano. I hope you have a monster season except when you play us
lol
Hey Hockey Guy... Loved your opinions on the Kraken expansion draft. (Good and bad) Seattle native here who know's very little about hockey but excited to learn!
SMFH.
@@DeViLzzz2006 But you watched it?
@@DeViLzzz2006 Hockey drops a lot of BS in the off season to keep us addicted to the game with trade rumors, drafts, FA etc...The expansion draft was different though, the production mattered little to me, it was the players selected only that mattered.
I had the ESPN feed on one TV, muted, and then Shannon and Yvonne on another TV with the stream going. I might have to watch games like this, this season, if ESPN is this atrocious
ESPN has always been bad with hockey. I may have to follow your lead when it comes to watching the upcoming season.
@@irafairpercussion5781 I've never been a fan of American broadcasts. There's a lot to complain about with current Hockey Night In Canada, Sportsnet, and TSN, but personally I feel that the Canadian stations just "get" hockey better than the American stations. It's hard to explain
@@Outta-hz1ej I watch Bally Sports/formally Fox Sports and never had a problem with them, ever. They don't cover a lot of Playoff games though.
@@Outta-hz1ej No explanation needed. If anyone watched hockey for more than 10 minutes they get it.
The ESPN crew was so cringy to watch smh
They should’ve let the octopus host the expansion draft
Or Dusty R. Gooch
Better watch out Shannon, I think your cat was plotting how to kill you at 2:17
Shanon I'm sure you've already seen, but its since been clarified that there were, in fact, no *pre-draft* trades (what most people call 'side deals') which probably would have been announced similarly to Vegas when they had their go at it.
Curious to see how the side deals affected the selection process. If no deals were made, I’ll be shocked!
Jared McCann, RIP Leafs Legend 2021-2021, you will be missed
Sad you guys couldn't enjoy him for that long
I was hoping Toronto would be able to keep McCann and Seattle takes Kerfoot but, unfortunately, that didn't happen. Not that I don't like Kerfoot, but I think McCann is the better of the two.
@@blackenedmagic888 wow really
@@DeViLzzz2006 neither was since neither are close to the Leafs top 4 forwards, and the Leafs wanted to keep their D corps together. What was brain dead about that?
Tanev should never change that head shot. I need that in my life.
Man...Yanni will be missed so so much...Goodluck my Frenchman...
They trade Donskoi then sign Landeskog in free agency and Joe Sakic's head explodes
I think having donskoi is a good thing for the kraken if you honestly believe in his ability which I do
Donskoi and Landeskog are both the players that fought and took hits in front of the net. I think losing Donskoi alone is a massive nutshot for avs if they want a cup in near future.
Sakic would jump off a bridge if they lose lande
Love the Thunderbirds jersey, last hockey game I saw before lockdown was the Birds vs Silvertips.
The price talk silence was Priceless hahaha
There were no side deals. This is the team they wanted. Lmao
no, it’s bc their asking price to not take certain players were crazy. that’s why toronto traded for Jared McCann. it’s cheaper to deal with another team.
@@toxicwaters6885 so they didn't take Jake Bean because their own asking price to not take him was too high... got it. Ha.
They were too greedy in their asking prices.
They might make a few trades and sign a couple of expensive free agents but they won’t have a team close to what Vegas had. Sure the GMs learned from that but they still picked a few players with almost no trade value when they could have picked players for trades.
As Sharks fan. i cried when they picked True. But I hope he does well in Seattle. Go kraken Go
True.
Who?
Shannon great presentation . Have you thought of doing a caricature on your merch coffee mugs instead of the big sunglasses ? Your eyes and eyebrows in caricature would be enough to make them fly off the shelves ! Really .
If anything, they are going to be the biggest and most physical team in their division.
That was my read. Tanev, Larsson, Oleksiak etc. Super physical.
Edm
also the worst team in their division lmao
Tanev's headshot and the Hurricanes/Panthers banter were the best things from this event
Not a single side deal makes the leaks even more disappointing
Side deals are trades and trades aren’t finalized and announced until tomorrow.
Can't wait for the schedule to come out today! Congrats on 206k subscribers! That's awesome.
Can I just say that the Seattle jerseys look CLEAN. Sad the Blues didn't protect Dunn, but rooting for him to continue success in Seattle.
Good to know Donskoi is still playing for Colorado. I’ve never heard of this Don Skow Wee guy
You would think, as a "celebrity" that you would ask someone how to pronounce the name of the guy you are gonna announce. It isn't like it as a secret before hand or anything.
Hi Shannon I have the same Kraken hat you are wearing in the video. Love the 47 brand and always buy hats from them.
I’m commenting this before they become one of the most hated teams in the league 3 years from now like the Knights.
They have to actually be good and I don’t see them being as good as Vegas but we have to see free agency before I can say that
"Let the hate flow through you." 🤣🤣
they're a laughingstock lmao
Giordano looked uncomfortable. Francis should have walked over to him, said we have something else for you, and slapped a C on his jersey.
Oilers pretty much got nothing for Taylor Hall
And NJ got nothing from Adam Larrson ? Or did they I don't remember.
Worldzworstgamer as much as I agree with you I have to blame the oilers organ i zation for not properly developing players.
@@DeViLzzz2006 oh ya completely forgot he went to Arizona
Just noticed you have the same cat tower my parents have for our cats. One of them just loves to perch up there like yours does lol.
I'm gonna miss Yanni and Calle, Seattle fans are really gonna enjoy watching them next year.
I'm just glad they got Geekie
& i still think geekie can be very solid
As a NHL Player, good luck to him,
GO CANES
Love how it looked like Shadow was reading the board at points. Guess he was somewhat interested in who Seattle took too :P
they have work to do upfront for sure, its not a bad list though. I understand no ufa , why waist a pick on one now when you can have a offer in and just swing back later and double dip from a team.
I think they were picked alphabetically by division
You're right, it was explained on NHL:s webpage around the start of the draft
Good analysis. Always fun to watch your stuff. From a Belgian Sens fan.
I might be chewing my words in a few weeks but the offense on this team looks bereft , Vegas at their draft packed a bigger punch up front and in nets with Fleury
THG spent as much time analyzing the Geekie pick as Chris Fowler and ESPN did researching "that team from North Carolina."
ESPN needs to get some hockey people as announcers fast. That broadcast was not the best by a long shot. Take a hint, Mr. Fowler.
I thought the NHL was aiming to eliminate headshots.
*rimshot*
A rimshot... Now that's something they're not gonna want on TV
buh dum tsssh
As a Pens Fan from Kingston Ontario it would be nice to see the pens tank for Wright since it would be sick to see Wright develop all the way through his career. Especially with Crosby.
The Pittsburgh Penguins know quite a bit about purposely losing to get a specific draft pick.
@@NMWEYSILYSMM not happening with Crosby and malkin getting older. They will do there best to hobble a cup team together.
Goodbye Jeremy Lauzon. I will miss you.
Sounds like the Bruins will be resigning Hall so at least there’s that.
He has a good potential and he played well last year. All we can hope is that Cliffie and Vak step up and Sweeney gets a good LD.
In other words, what does he know that we don't?
he probably wants a chance to win. we all know edmonton is gonna waste mcdavid and draisaitl. or the income taxes… washington has no income tax
Edmonton is going no where fast until they learn how to properly build a team.
It's not some big insider secret. He just doesn't see Edmonton as a contender, like the rest of us.
That Seattle will win the cup before Edmonton?
He knows he will take home much more money because income taxes are much less in the state he is going to verses anywhere in Canada. That’s why Canadian teams can’t compete in the salary cap era, they have to overpay players to compensate.
The thirty picks they made have a serious lack of scoring…though I’m liking the defense and goaltending a lot.
We’ll see how Francis does in the offseason.
Donskoi is in Finland, that's why he wasn't there. But there's always a chance they trade him.
I'm going to miss Tanev on the Pens.
Really enjoyed the livestream. Looking forward to the "soccer" meet up in the UK sometime 😁
The NBA needs to bring back the Super Sonics. I hope that they do soon.
"In Vegas you have explosions... and in Seattle, you have dead fish" -- Shanny THG, Quotesman Extraordinaire
The biggest rumor in Philly was they take Hagg from PHI, then Tarasenko from STL. Then SEA trades Senko to PHI for Voracek ad a second+ rounder.
Who would be the next 4 teams? Houston, Quebec City, Portland, Atlanta?
Portland is currently a shit hole. Don't expect anything big to come from there except a few burnt buildings
Bayreuther is actually a UFA, as is Quenneville though he's group 6.
So pumped as a Kraken fan!!! The jerseys look good too
You said they had to many defence. Anything worth going Winnipeg's way? Be interesting to see what Winnipeg will do in the next little while. Chipmann keeps saying the defence is a priority to fix but yet doesn't make a move that is seen as significant enough to do anything.
As a Habs fan, all I can say is: BIG BRAIN BERGEVIN
Big brain, massive balls.
His gamble paid off for real!
Lol you guys have a couple years at most left of price. If you don't win the Cup by the time he retires, Id call it SMALL BRAIN BERGEVIN
yeah big brain, he lost a young, promising right handed d man for nothing and still has that brutal price contract lmao
Now that Gio is gone. There’s no one on the back end to try to break McDavids leg every time he gets a break
Yeah, MacKinnon and Rantanen better be careful with their knee placement.
Unfortunately you forgot the part where he’s still in the same division as McDavid. Ol Knee-ordano isn’t done yet
Same division indeed
McDavid’s knees have left the chat
Teams got grit and good young goaltending, I predict they’ll do pretty good this season, probably not as good as Vegas in 2017 but still have a good first season.
Hopefully Quebec city gets a team back
With 3 players named Fleury drafted
Not gonna likely happen. NHL doesn't want to split the Quebec market between a team in Montreal and a team in Quebec city
In.20+ years ... maybe
I don't see that happening.
I honestly can't wait to see what this team can do. And weirdly enough. I'm not a NJ fan, at all. But I was super happy to see them grab Bastian. I hope they hang on to him.
In the few NJ games that I caught this season, he was a feisty young player. Great to see.
They really should have taught those "local legends" how to pronounce some of the names. I get you're getting paid to do it, but come on now.
My favorite was Donskoi
Leave to ESPN to not do their diligence by using "local legends" who know absolutely nothing about hockey. I afraid this is a sign of things to come on that channel.
The city of Seattle are so lucky to have guys like tanev and appleton on their team, they both give 100% of their game all year long
