I think a lot of rock music fans are becoming more traditionalist, especially for Fall Out Boy and other bands of their type (for example, Paramore, My Chemical Romance, Panic At the Disco), because those bands created strong emotional bonds between the music and the "Emo" teen fans. So when an artist that you loved so much, especially during your teens, changes, it can be hard to accept it.
Good summary of what those fandoms are going through. Change is usually received badly, but eventually smooths out. Hoo boy, I remember when Dan took Jon's place in the Game Grumps! I had not seen sub counts drop so quickly until the Fine Bros. announced they were taking over the concept of "reacting".
I am one of those fans that love both the newer and the older music that Fall Out Boy has put out, and it annoys me when people complain about the new music and say it sucks and all that I hate it because if you were really a fan, you would be able to love and find the beauty in anything they put out
