    Women aren't having a great time at the moment. They're maybe just as lost as men, the only difference is they get a little bit more sympathy. So just where did the trajectory of women go awry and how can they find a way to be happy again?
    Expect to learn about the social psychology behind the rise of Taylor Swift, Whitney’s thoughts on becoming a mother and the future of motherhood, whether women really can have it all, why more men are attracted to Whitney now that she’s pregnant, what we do about the future of sex robots and much more...

    The best gift I gave myself is when I stopped saying yes to people when the only reason I was saying yes, was to avoid feeling guilty when I said no.

    • @frankb821

      Saying "no" is quite liberating, especially when you realize how confounded people are when they can't use you anymore

    • @take7upyours822
      @take7upyours822 4 місяці тому +2

      Or to keep "the peace". If someone has that kind of control over you, that you feel like saying "no" will have them launch into a never ending guilt trip. That's proof enough they have no respect for your boundaries.
      Respect comes at the cost of feeling like you're being an abrupt *sshole sometimes, but it's necessary.

      How did you stop yourself from feeling guilty for saying no?

    • @Astral_Dusk
      @Astral_Dusk 4 місяці тому

      Absolutely, being more authentic instead of pathologically nice and sacrifice our peace within to maintain peace in someone else when it's primarily due to a lack of emotional regulation - i.e. someone who's just temperamental regardless... be yourself anyways. If you inherently "being" pisses them off then "be" anyways and perhaps get them out of your closest social circle. It's a curious phenomenon but in time the muscle of being authentic adapts to being a lot more comfortable and wise to saying no when it's perfectly reasonable. Many (especially casual) situations can warrant a reasonable no.
      What helped me is the mindset of isolating all emotional reactions to each individual's responsibility.
      Yes we can influence emotion, but NO we cannot manage it for others as well. When one is much less abled to manage themselves (children, certain disabilities, etc) - we're still running a constant negotiation game to convince them to manage themselves if you really think about it.
      In some sense I remember a lot of misguided logic in childhood saying "if you can't say anything NICE, don't say anything AT ALL" and this is inhumane because there's a spectrum of experience that will inevitably require harsh truth as well. Respecting our own health to be able to respect the health of others is inevitable.

    • @jzen1455
      @jzen1455 3 місяці тому

      And saying "no" is a good way to find out if someone is a narcissist. People who are persistent after being told "no" or people get very upset when being told "no" are highly likely narcissists. They take rejection poorly and hate how it disrupts their sense of control.

    Being married means waking up every day knowing I get to improve the life of the person next to me through every decision I make over the next 16 hours, and that has been the greatest gift life’s ever given me. I hope more young people experience the awakening Whitney describes before reaching an age where the regret is too overwhelming to acknowledge. I know too many people like that in LA (where I live). This is my first UA-cam comment ever, so I have to also say thank you to Chris for creating such an awesome, free resource. I saw the seeds of this 20 years ago in college. They glorified and idolized the Sex and the City lifestyle - a show whose protagonists acted like antagonists. A show where all their bad behavior was ignored, accepted, or excused away. Women say they want marriage, but they are woefully unprepared for what is expected of a wife and mother. They have no clue what men want and hence they fail to understand how to improve their value and sell themselves to prospective husbands.

      @@lavienestpasunlongfleuvetr2559 That is wholly incorrect. We as men are held to a high moral standard by not only our own will of self, but by our parents, family, peers, and society. We are expected to be the hero, to lay down our lives when the call arises in the defense of justice and goodness. In this sense, we are conditioned to be disposable and selfless, which is (unfortunately for society) the exact opposite of what the other sex is encouraged to be. This is evidenced by going outside, opening your eyes, and touching grass. Less than 5 years of normal adult life experience will teach you this reality, and most of us have plenty more than that under our belts. At this point, it's really just common sense... Most people go through life without fixing their issues and attracting people like themselves. The issue is once you fix/better yourself you inadvertently eliminate/repel most people who haven't fixed themselves from your dating pool...

    Maybe it's because I'm a stereotypical masculine male but a lot of what she says does not resonate with me at all. That constant need for approval, the mirroring of others, perpetually nurturing of those around, playing the room, etc. None of those things were ever a factor or even entered my mind and the closest thing to nurturing instinct is the protective instinct for those weaker/smaller in the group.
    This was really just a glimpse into the world pure feminine oriented neuroticism. I've had many heart to heart type conversations with my male friends and none of those type of things are factors for them (aside from dating damaged women). I think men have a fundamentally different experience overall due to most men realizing at a young age that no one cares about your problems, nothing is going to be handed to you and unless you can provide utility then people aren't going to value you.

      @@scratchpenny when did I say that you can’t get insight from Whitney?
      I was referring to the statement about how surprising it is to get this insight from any comedian. Plenty of comedians host and appear on podcasts and have shared great insight all the time. Whitney, being a comedian, is no exception.

    Wasnt sure what to expect, but really enjoyed this. Whitney came off as very genuine, self reflective, and had a nuanced perspective that I greatly appreciated.

      She's pregnant with Schaub's kid and he's married. You sicko.

      @rydz656 Well, since that didn't come up in the interview... I don't see how it relates to my comment. If true, yeah, that's pretty disgusting and disappointing because it's in complete opposition to her perspective here. That said, a cursory googling makes it sound like this is an unverified rumor from a 3rd party without any proof, so I'll withhold judgment.

    Don't gossip about your man ever. I've experienced this and had people disrespect me because of someone gossiping about me. Very sad.

    "What Is Wrong With Modern Women?" - I like this approach of talking directly to the queen of crazy.

    Oh cmon 😂 Whitney Cummings for a topic like this? She is the quintessential "modern women" 😅

    Ms Cummings, what a pleasure to listen you, Motherhood is such a profound change to surrender to, and boy is it good to be forced to let go of one's bullshit. Haven't seen your comedy yet but you feel so wise and full of heart. I also really enjoyed what you said about horses being sensitive to "needy" energy. Very true.

    I'm only a few minutes in, and something about her is off putting. Can't put my finger on it, yet, but I'll pick up the interview tomorrow. I must sleep, I work early in the morning.
    Anyone that wants to chime in, please do.
    I've never heard of her, but I love CW's podcast/interviews.
