Ice skating ⛸ where I grew up. Most of the time the rink played horrible music. But on Saturday nights, we kids got to control the sound! Black, brown, white, yellow - hockey players, figure skaters, speed skaters, Everyday People showing our moves on ice - most of us learned to skate before we learned how to dance!
I love Kool and The Gang!!! When my son took his two daughters to see Van Halen in concert a few years ago They opened the show. My son and granddaughters loved their performance. They were dancing and flipping all over the stage...He told me his favorite band was Kool and The Gang now...lol.
I’m a 66 year old lady, and I sooo enjoy watching your reactions to the videos you share. You always put a smile on my face and I actually laugh out loud sometimes. Thanks for being such a positive influence. 🤩
I still can't believe I didn't go to this show. I didn't know about it and found out they played Mohegan Sun, which I've been to a bunch of times, after the fact. I'll never forgive myself.
These Kool Cat’s were my daddy’s favorite “Go-to-Party” band . You just can’t not dance when they play . Wait til you play Celebration ,and you’ll see what I’m sayin’ ! Ladies Night and Joanna , there just isn’t any bad songs no matter what you play of theirs ! And they stand the test of time , you never get tired of hearing them , I know I don’t ! And the memories they bring back ........ Priceless !
Kool & The Gang as well as Earth Wind & Fire we’re constantly playing in my house Saturday mornings while cleaning....also Teena Marie and that whole Minneapolis sound. Still do to this day
I was a dancer in those days, loved Kool and the Gang, Hey! I would of spotted you clear across the dance floor....those shoulder moves give away what a good dancer you must be.....(just playing my Old Lady Card ; ) you gave me smiles this gloomy Saturday...Thanks Jamal!!
As a full time DJ I'd like to say Thank You Jamel its great that your keeping the music alive and lifting peoples spirits! Cheers! Got my T shirt yesterday love it!

Love, love, love and love, Kool & the Gang! I’ve listened to so much R&B all my life and this band is one of the best! Cherish by Kool & the Gang would be one I’d love for you to do, Jamel.
An incredibly talented and charismatic frontman, who could have a crowd eating from the palm of his hand. Kool and the Gang were a hit machine, and so much fun. Echoing the sentiment from a previous comment, when it was about fun and not trying to be gangster. I love classic funk. 50 year old metal head.
Love the reaction...standing against the wall....Oh yeah! My Older brother and I saw them for the Emergency/Cherish Tour back in the early 80's ---One of the best concerts I have EVER seen WAY TO KOOL!!! Peace
I love that in this video they're hardly even pretending to play their instruments, they're in that studio just like "Well this could look really dull, let's just have everybody dance and have fun with it."
In 1995 I went to Music Midtown in Atlanta. Kool and the Gang was the last band to play on Saturday night at the main stage. I remember being amazed at the diverse crowd they drew because there was all kinds of music there...all genres. Everyone left left ‘their’ music to come watch them perform. One of my all time favorite memories!
This is what played at the roller rinks on Friday night's then we'd watch it on Soul Train right after Saturday morning cartoons. Man I'm lucky to be GenX 😎✌
😂 I just love watching you! I was 20 years old when this song came out and when I was at a party you can Bess believe I was the fist one on that floor. This is my music 70s and 80s we’re the best years for me in music. I love to dance and had so much fun! Man I wish I could turn back the clock! I love to watch your reactions your so cute and funny thank you for bringing back real music and loving it and spreading the love. ❤❤❤👍🏼👊🏼🙌🏼👏🏼😊❤️
Kool & the Gang played at my Grad Night! Lots of High Schools in Southern California have their Grand Night at Disneyland. It was so much fun. Class of 1981!
Miami Vice LOL , used to love that , l remember the guys wearing the jackets with the sleeves folded half way , living here in Scotland the weather was never really that warm for that style LMAO 🥰
You're taking me back, brother. In those days I was listening to Pink Floyd at home. But I carpooled with some nice ladies, and the carpool listened to KIIS FM with Rick Dees. And Kool was played every day. I don't care who you are or what you like, when this song plays you cannot sit still. You should have seen that carpool. Thanks for the memory.
A true classic. This and Celebrate are always on the family party playlist....everyone gets up to dance! The old folks too (after they've had few whiskeys or gin and tonics)!
We all listened to this music when we went dancing, or roller skating. This music was so good people would even go to a disco. Or maybe that was the only place to meet pretty girls. Anyhow, it beats the heck out of most of today's music. You always bring a smile, brother.
I was blessed with a Kentucky mom who let me listen to anything i wanted except for the Beatles. It was an elvis household 😉 I listened to all of this growing up and she knew before she passed that i was also learning about the Beatles but still loved elvis. Elvis is so loved my daughter has lyrics tattooed on her arm. She's in her 20s.
Average White Band doesn’t get enough mention. They were one the tightest, funkiest bands from the 70s. They laid down the funk with “Cut the Cake” on Soul Train, that’s saying sumthin’. ua-cam.com/video/bSq93Hsn0Bg/v-deo.html Btw, anybody remember School Boy Crush, Pick up the Pieces, Person to Person, and the slow jams, A Love of Your Own and Cloudy…umph umph umph.

Saw this superb band 4 times live here in the UK during the 80s on the "Emergency" tour... My sis had a mini bus full of friends but no driver so I drove but wasn't keen on going to the gig itself but did, AND OMG I was hooked from the get go. Superb 😊👍
Back when I was a kid, Saturdays meant cartoons in the morning, and Soul Train and American Bandstand in the afternoon.
Yes sir! Same. And American Top 40 on Sundays.
Me too
And then play some games, start arguing, get your butt whupped, and get sent to bed.
See ya next Saturday kids!
Absolutely
Yessss! Same!! Remember Soild Gold??
I love how bands and groups were fun and cool rather than "hard" and "gangsta".
Amen
KK, you are right about that!
Yep no message of hate just groovin and accepting .
You are SOOO right.🤟😁
@Ralph Filigenzi I miss house parties.
Miss the smoothness and class. Most of today's music is just sad.
I remember roller skating to this.
You're right that you can't fight the groove. I've embarrassed myself in grocery stores, elevators, waiting rooms...
You are not alone - have embarrassed my daughters more than once! However I taught them well and they love this stuff too......🥰
Haha I saw y'all dancing
😂😂😂 gots to groove lol!
Having your own soul train line in the aisle at the grocery store
Me too 😂😂😂 Can’t help it
Kool and the Gang is unreal. Most casuals think of celebrate, no idea how good they are.
Kenny O'Connor Man, Thats probably least of their best stuff. But you’re right, most people have NO idea!
Unreal is the perfect adjective. Just so damn tight and groovy.
Saw them in 2012.they opened for Van Halen! It was awesome! I miss music like this!
True. I got to see them live back in the 80's with Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam. Kool and the Gang headlined. They all put on a killer show!
nem36 When Lisa Lisa was a teenager she was my Camp Counselor in our local PAL! We grew up in the same NYC neighborhood, Hells Kitchen 💪❤️
I love Kool and The Gang!!! When my son took his two daughters to see Van Halen in concert a few years ago They opened the show. My son and granddaughters loved their performance. They were dancing and flipping all over the stage...He told me his favorite band was Kool and The Gang now...lol.
