Take the tether off because it is humiliating. Judge, you better get that tether off because we wouldn't want someone accused to rape being humiliated. What about the life-long humiliation experienced by rape victims. Better remove that too.
This doofus doesn't understand that he demonstrated that the combative nature that earned him the tether in the first place is alive and well.
Plus the prosecution thanks him for gifting them admissions that he was with the girl in the car park. One less thing they have to prove. And now that he has brought up his criminal history, the prosecution will be able to use it in the case by asking him about it. Juries love to know about previous criminality, but the prosecution would probably not have been able to use it before the doofus talked about it in court. This defendant is the gift that keeps of giving.

There was zero evidence supporting her claim and lots of evidence disproving it. In other words, a lie. If the vacation was scheduled prior to this case being set on this date then sure, it’s perfectly fine. If the prosecutor took a vacation after this date being set then absolutely 1000% this defendant is well justified to be livid. Innocent till proven guilty, and assuming he is innocent, he wants to settle it ASAP.
It’s really not hard to understand. It doesn’t excuse his behavior and things he said though.

Defendant, guilty or not is 100% right. If this is a matter of this magnitude, and if this is supposed to be like the final hearing, not no pretrial bullcrap dates, how you going to go on vacation? He should have kept his mouth closed and guarantee this would have got thrown out, but because he yelled at the judge, the prosecutor gets their way. Very next day he could have filed a motion to get it dismissed, right? Well idk how it is in that state.

Ooof... the defendant did himself no real favors with his tirade. Admitting he spent time in prison for armed robbery? Bad move. There's a reason why you have a lawyer... the lawyer is supposed to be reasonable and dispassionate... so something stupid doesn't happen, like what happened here! I engaged a lawyer for a civil case against my sister. My sister addressed the court directly. I asked my lawyer if I could do the same. They advised against it and I understood why. They are the pros at what needs to be said, not me. I won.

Defense attorney: My client works with the police as their tow truck driver. He doesn’t need to be on a tether. He’s rational.
Defendant (yelling at the top of his lungs): I spent over a dozen years in prison for armed robbery! I used to rob people. All I did here was drive while intoxicated, show up at a home where I was trusted, and just happened to run across a 16-year-old girl, whose diapers I changed and who trusted me. She made a false rape charge against me because I wouldn’t buy her a pair of expensive sneakers! I’m a robber, not a rapist! Take my tether off bc I am absolutely trustworthy!“
