Born and lived in Hinde Street in 1943. The houses are still there but modernised. Great cinemas, Adelphi, MIP and the Fourways. Bonfires on Fold Street in the middle of the road. No cars. Many a time spent in the hollows of Boggart Hole Clough. Boating on the lake. Happy memories.
Born in Caledon Ave in the '50s but my parents emigrated to New Zealand when I was just 2 years old. Grew up and went to school in NZ but went back to the UK in '84 to find my roots when I was in my 20s. All my relatives talked about was how Moston Lane had gone down. Apparently, in the '50s and 60s, Moston Lane was THE place to shop in North Manchester and also a place to just stroll about and meet members of the opposite sex and chat; a place for socializing. Well, Moston Lane might have been a bit jaded in the '80s but it was Park Avenue compared to what it is today. Can you say "ghetto"? Moston, Harpurhey and Blackley are case studies in urban decay.
Your parents did you a massive favour mate, it's a hellhole now, I know a disabled chap who's had ALL his car windows put in by little thugs & the cops say " try & keep an eye out" ?? I'd rather live in a fckin tent than Moston. 4:51

Thank you, this was my home , I lived just up Moston Lane opposite Broadhurst Fields on Rudston Ave off Horncastle Rd, from the Ben Brierley up to the Fourways would also be nice to see, I live in Canada now, I don’t get back home anymore. It was nice to see
Absolute blast from the past for me So thanks very much for the video Left in the 90s but grew up there so know it well. Shops not same But good to see shops actually still open ... Et omg the golden apple still goin strong . brilliant
I was brought up in Moston, 40 yrs ago it hasent changed a bit first yime seeing the place in ages ! I enjoyed the vid, word to the wise, becareful piking around in those entries, (alleys) at the back of houses & shops, just saying chuck,.....
This is not in the travel brochure for sure when people think of the UK. This looks more like parts of Philly or Baltimore than Buckingham Palace, but North Manchester is where I lived as a kid and as long as you dont get involved with unsavoury characters, it is an ok place to live, and there are still a lot of good hardworking people, a few youngsters that ruin it somewhat for everyone though as well. Must be a bit of a shock to an American tourist coming here, strange to hear an American in Moston, it isnt a part of Manchester that most Americans visit.
& me I grew up in Moston , long time ago, .. it hasent changed in 40yrs of being away 👍been back to Manchester mu family is there , but nvr returned to Moston I'm going to have to do that walk again myself , I used to play down this area on my bmx at like 7,8 years old, & lived near the Gardener's Arms right up the road ...😉 Nice to here from someone else who grew there! 👋
Five out of 7 Pubs on Moston Lane have closed. Starting from The Thatched House (Now converted into dwellings) down to Bluebell Hotel..(Still a Pub ) then onto The Museum Pub (Now a Fruit n Veg Shop) Facing the Museum Pub was The Ben Brierley (Now a Nursery) onto the Mowers Arms...(Still a Pub)..onto the Bricklayers Arms, now waste ground (Demolished) Then the Old Loom..(Now a restaurant). No more Mip Market ..No more Gilroy's..
For conversations like this, talking to some of the locals who unfortunately did not want to be in the video. They also explained how much had changed. We make random walking videos of random places for your viewing. Thanks for watching 👍
@my3rdeye896 It must have been a shock to you to see neighbourhoods like this in the UK. A lot of Americans think that these sorts of places, Harpurhey, Cheetham Hill, Collyhurst dont exist and that the UK is full of posh well to do areas and people. I grew up in North Manchester and my uncle currently lives in Philly, he moved out there in the 90s and when I visit him out there, so many of the neighbourhoods there remind me of parts of Manchester I grew up on.
My mum worked at Norweb on Moston Lane in the 80s early 90s. Tbh it was OK, sure it had it issues like most of northern Manchester. But the people were decent. I couldn't say if that's the case now.
Moved Most on 8 years ago . People are ok BUT COUNCIL GOVERNMENT has forgotten the place . No.decent restaurants or bars mainly African now ( WTF ! ) ! Can't wait to move because of lack of work here . Shame !!
Born and raised in Moston for 50 years...heartbreaking that once a disirable area to live, now turned into a 3rd world ghetto. Most of the shops are actually fronts for ilicit dealings i.e people trafficing, drugs and prostitution.

Worked in Moston in the 90s it was great times, great boozers good people but visited about 4 months ago,not nice no more I have to say.
Surprised you still kept your shoes!
They can have my old walking shoes, its the camera I was worried about.
It used to be much nicer. Its a lane of scruffy tacky shops now unfortunately
