guys I just realised I missed out the open/closed world update in the list. Oops! If i remember to put it in the video I would’ve said mildly unpopular (😬). As I think most simmers are casual players (double 😬), most casual players don’t have high end gaming PCs so it doesn’t make sense to have an open world. I’m glad (and know many other people are glad) that the closed world system has allowed them to enjoy the game with it running smoothly. And I’m all about inclusivity so as long as all people can play it I’m happy x
I remember seeing that at launch and just thinking, wow, they didn’t even care did they? I can see what they were going for, making the lot you’re looking at colour in to highlight it, but it just looked really ugly and I think they could’ve made it look much better by having it be coloured in by default, then when you click on a lot everything else transitions to be black and white or a blueprint again, leaving just your lot highlighted, or make it an option to be even better.
I bought it about a few years after that happened, so I never experienced it. But I remember a girl in college complaining about all the stuff in the then-new Sims 4, like no toddlers, no swimming pools, etc. By the time I came around to the game, most of the stuff she complained about had already been patched into the game.
Moschino was another one; when it was announced, the room went quiet. Everyone was icky about it but now, it seems like a pack that's for some people but not for everyone, like all stuff packs. Personally, I think it's great, but it was definitely a bit controversial.
Moschino was my least favorite pack, till I wanted to play as a travel influencer and bought it. Basically my favorite stuff pack atm (especially the clothes)

You’re absolutely right. The Sims 4 is made in what is called spaghetti code, which is why every release and patch breaks something. The code was made for online play. It’s made for constant online server monitoring and account stat updates, not offline single-player game assets. It’s like trying to make people believe they’re eating cake, when all you had was cookie dough. Yeah, it’s still delicious and still sweet…but, it’s not cake.

As a Half Korean person, the whole reason that the shrine thing was controversial is because in the period Japan had taken over Korea, they would force said Koreans to prey to those shrines among other similar things There are still Koreans who are sensitive when it comes to things like that, such as the imperial japanese flag; kind of like how the n word means to African Americans. (Although I'm not a history expert so don't entirely count me on that.) However, it's not that they were going to make the prayer mechanic manditory, or make it that certain sims were forced to pray at those shrines because it was most likely meant to be a little interaction that you can do if you want to. The Sims team didn't mean to actively affend Koreans when including that interacrion, it was meant to be a japanese mechanic for a japanese themed pack. Maybe if it was a more general east asian themed pack, I could see how people would think it's weird to only include the option to pray to a japanese shrine and none other if they only included that in the first place, but not when it's a Japan themed pack. Also there was another more minor controversy about the little patterns on one of the CAS items looking like the imperial japanese flag and the few Koreans I asked about this said that it didn't even really looked like it. All in all, how can see how Koreans could find that questionable because of the history, but I personally believe that it's mostly just Gen Z being Gen Z.

The shrine thing is because the japanese religion was forced into the Korean population during the japanese invasion and it's still a big thing there. And another thing that was in Snowy Escape was a pattern resemling the rising sun (japanese imperialism flag) it would be literally like putting a swastika in the game, this one I think was rightfully taken out.

And it doesn’t need a circle, just the context is enough to know the reference, like neonaz1s wearing manjis in armbands, it’s not a swastika per say, but given the context, we can see the reference.

Even if an online version of the Sims 4 worked exactly as intended, I doubt it would've gone over well. Most people enjoy creating their own worlds/stories and exploring them solo. Modding would've been impossible because of server restrictions. An offline, single-player version is what they should've been their focus through the entire development process.
A lot of companies these days seem to be intent on pushing their own desires on consumers & not what they actually want. Take Instagram as an example! And it’s like EA don’t know their market at all. People who play the sims are often not the same people who enjoy playing GTA/other FPS games online. Some like both but I don’t believe it’s the rule. I don’t know many people who ever asked for the sims to be multiplayer as standard - an option, sure, but that’s not what the game’s ever been about!
To be fair, I saw a hot tub just like the 20th anniversary one at the Ideal Homes Exhibition this year. I remember because I literally stopped and was like “that’s the controversial Sims 4 hot tub IRL omg”

I totally agree that swimming is boring and useless, but drowning on the other hand...The first thing I wanna test out in this game is sims floatability, lol For the shrine thing, there is one specific shrine in Japan that honors "defenders of the country", including several war criminals, so that one is very controverial and potentially offensive, but as far as I know there's nothing wrong with shinto-type shrines in general ?? It might have been cool to include a touch of spirituality, too, it's a touchy subject but it's part of people's lives
I remember downloading the game demo when it first came out and being so disappointed. And I remember the chaos over the blank looking map. People were planning on boycotting the S4 altogether, they were so angry. I mean I would be to if I paid almost $70 for it (which is unbelievably what it originally was released at). I am a HUGE star wars fan, but the Journey To Batuu pack is just not it... 1. The gameplay focuses on the sequel trilogy, which is infamously hated by a lot fans for inaccuracy and just not being up to par with the og trilogy and prequel trilogy. This is bc George Lucas(creator of star wars) sold star wars to disney and the story wasn't being created by the same person. 2. Batuu doesn't exist in the movies and is literally only in Disneyland and ts4. 3. The different "aliens" or "species" in the star wars universe are all their own individual race and nation, but ts4 made them costumes, which takes away from the authenticity of them. Now obviously ts4 couldn't make them all occults with dif powers and such(I don't think it's in their budget and time limit), but they could've literally been just occults without any special powers or systems. If u want a solid star wars game get Battlefront II. It's literally way cheaper than the sims 4 game pack.

20:22 It would be great if they were working on a pack that includes learning to drive, buying a car, etc. Because as a gameplay it would be great to be able to take exams, see the sim practices, work to get money and go to car stores to choose the car, etc. Maybe private driver careers, driving school teacher, taxi/uber driver, traffic warden... I don't know. including cars in the game gives a lot of content. But maybe they save it for Sims5?

@@justanotheryoutubechannel Actually is not that easy to add them currently, mainly because of pathing issues. They would need to update all the worlds to have paths for the cars to move in or not allow you to place them in certain worlds. Imagine trying to place a car in Sulani... If they ever do, I doubt it's in an update because of the effort it'd take

I don't really get why people want cars, it would be hell. I already lose my mind when the sims go travel somewhere and they run through the whole neighborhood and then disappear, imagine everytime you sim travel, they just summon a car, freeze for a while, and then disappear. Imagine have to reset the sim when they go to work, the missing work message appears, the boss calls and there is your sim T posing in front of the car again. Now imagine the worse scenario: they make animations of the sims entering the car. The hellish entering and leaving the car animations over and over like the bikes.
i mean they could just make cars spawn next to the lot and make the sims enter it and then it would disappear and the loading screen would appear. It's not difficult, ea just doesn't want to update the base game.
Look, people spend hundreds and thousands of dollars on this game…would it have been so hard to give them something great for the 20th anniversary? Like a carnival gamepack!

I'm part of Gen Z and I don't think it was some Gen Z being stupid. I really think you shouldn't have said that. Some Koreans have grandparents that were traumatized from that war. The Gen Z Koreans were vocalizing the horrific associations of those features.

Sadly, my old laptop died, and with it, my lovely Sims 2 game, so I've been playing TS4 and absolutely loving your content, its so cathartic bcos this game is killing me.
I 100% agree with the no religious stuff in the game EXCEPT I feel as though muslim friendly clothing is a requirement. Although hijabs and other coverings are religious items, the sims 4 is supposed to be a safe space for everyone and everybody should feel represented.

I remember hearing some controversy about the knitting back being a ripoff since it just reused animations from a previous pack, and one about eco lifestyle stuff being downgraded to just laundry because it was easier to develop, only for eco lifestyle stuff to actually come our years later. The biggest controversies I heard about were the pools, cars, and toddlers. Personally I didn’t care about the lack of pools as I don’t drown my Sims for fun and I don’t care that much but people were FURIOUS about it. The toddlers were the biggest disappointment, they should’ve been free at launch rather than split into an update and an stuff pack like 2 years later, especially since they were a really good phase in the Sims 3 and the babies also got nerfed. Luckily they got added and arguably were even better than the Sims 3, but I was really upset by this change. Cars were another huge one, I didn’t care that much because you didn’t need them in a non-open world but a lot of people were ENRAGED. They could’ve been implemented *really easily* and made to work like the Sims 2, where your Sim would get in the car and drive off the edge of the lot then trigger the usual loading screen/just disappear and go to work, but EA couldn’t be bothered so we didn’t get them. The lack of an open world itself was a controversy, while losing the open world is a shame it was done to make the game run properly and by comparison the Sims 3 feels very clunky, it’s laggy and glitchy and Sims move weirdly and teleport around, and the camera lags and stutters constantly as you move around and load new lots, and you rarely find many Sims out in public, the Sims 4 improved these issues at the cost of the openness. I would’ve much rather saw then release a Sims 4 with an open world that actually worked properly though, as I’m certain EA could’ve done it since the Sims 3 was really just held back by it’s age, it couldn’t use more than 3 CPU cores and was limited to 2048mb of video memory out of the box, and can only use 2gb of RAM without a patch and it’s locked to 4gb even with one because it’s a 32-bit application.
My opinion is unpopular, in that as much as I liked the sims 3 open world, I really enjoy TS4’s half open half closed world too. TS2 was just a bit too closed (although I do enjoy the mechanics of calling a taxi 😂) and TS3 was just a nightmare to run. I could live without the open world. There’s no reason we shouldn’t have cars though. I can’t imagine they’re difficult to design & animate compared to other things like idk. Cows and llamas 😂 (though I was DYING for a country pack so I love it) The sims 3 is just almost unplayable. I reinstalled it tonight and managed to make 2 sims, 2 horses and a shell of a house in 4-5 hours. Meanwhile my laptop can run red dead redemption 2 smoothly on high settings, which is a significantly larger game with complicated mechanics. I hear the gameplay’s great but I barely remember it myself as it’s always run at snail’s pace even though it was my fave game for years 😂

In sims 4’s current state, as soon as paralives is released everyone is going to stop buying sims content and stop playing sims 4 because they will all be going to paralives. I know I sure will be going over to paralives once it is released
I sometimes think that the sims 4 is a weird alternate universe in which cars are the price of an IRL spaceship or cars were popular for a while and then everyone got sick of it..... much like the game itself
I like Star War, but I absolutely HATE Journey to Batuu. The game play is kinda ok, if you are ok being railroaded around. Played is in a try before you buy way... The build-buy things are only there so that they can be used on Batuu. They are pretty much useless and don't fit anywhere else. Skin tones... Or why the Melanin pack mod is so nice to have.

So when The Sims 4 came out, I had already decided to not bother with The Sims 3 for reasons that aren’t relevant here (I recently got the base game, which is currently all I have), so I was still playing exclusively The Sims 2. I wanted to play a new sims game, I really did and then I found out no pools (which I actually do use a lot in the Sims) and no toddlers (which was and is my favorite life stage) and I just decided the game was without hope and didn’t bother looking up anything else on it for years. I only learned they finally brought toddlers to the game, because my sister played and didn’t get the game until 2020 when I heard about a sale. As a result I missed most of the other controversies, because they happened before I actually started playing TS4.
I remember the controversy about the eyeshadow palettes and their cooperation with mac in general. And something with the kids having romantic relations with adults? Or just something along these lines. Just people going crazy about this bug and rightfully so imo. And then obviously the my wedding stories controversy along with them banning the pack in russia. Oh, and also the kits controversy. It was pretty loud, when the announced it. Dunno if you'd consider the bust the dust kit controversy as one and the same or separate, but I remember people being very pissed off because it being a glitchy mess
I know people are still asking for cars but they really should stop because it will probably never happen....you would literally only drive to the load screen (like sims bustin out for playstation) if they did anything . We can't get fixes for bugs, no way they will rework the whole system to fit them in.

I'm a female and I couldn't care less about the extra stuff packs like kits and my first pets. BUT. The extra toddler stuff IS SO CUTE and I want to buy it next. I mainly buy packs for gameplay because I don't really trust mods. That being said, because MODS can help you with the game it's absolutely ridiculous the prices we are paying for the game.

This reminds me of the opposite of how games like The Last of Us by Naughty Dog worked. How long was the gap between the two parts? Part 1 on 14 June 2013, with remastered released in 2014. Part 2 was released 19 June 2020. So they took 7 years to perfect the game for the second part and it DID NOT disappoint fans AT ALL. EA, please follow their lead!!
When the Star Wars game pack was announced some people were annoyed, some just made fun of it, some were totally pissed off and some were saying "I don't care about Star Wars but I'm glad for all of the Star Wars fans among us that they have a pack made for them." The last of those straight up put me into the "totally pissed off" group as an og hard core Star Wars fan. First of all we get a new trilogy that butchers our beloved universum with the most boring movie to start it of, second being retcon and the third being retcon of a retcon and bringing the most idiotic twist and toxic romance known to mankind. Then EA comes trying to make that last trilogy into even bigger cach grab than it was by creating a pack based around it. My friend then being one of those last group people giving me a key for this pack for my birthday was just the last stab into my already bleeding fan heart. I didn't use that key to this day and never will just out of spite towards this pack.

And it’s like EA don’t know their market at all. People who play the sims are often not the same people who enjoy playing GTA/other FPS games online. Some like both but I don’t believe it’s the rule. I don’t know many people who ever asked for the sims to be multiplayer as standard - an option, sure, but that’s not what the game’s ever been about!

For the shrine thing, there is one specific shrine in Japan that honors "defenders of the country", including several war criminals, so that one is very controverial and potentially offensive, but as far as I know there's nothing wrong with shinto-type shrines in general ?? It might have been cool to include a touch of spirituality, too, it's a touchy subject but it's part of people's lives
I remember downloading the game demo when it first came out and being so disappointed. And I remember the chaos over the blank looking map. People were planning on boycotting the S4 altogether, they were so angry. I mean I would be to if I paid almost $70 for it (which is unbelievably what it originally was released at). I am a HUGE star wars fan, but the Journey To Batuu pack is just not it...
1. The gameplay focuses on the sequel trilogy, which is infamously hated by a lot fans for inaccuracy and just not being up to par with the og trilogy and prequel trilogy. This is bc George Lucas(creator of star wars) sold star wars to disney and the story wasn't being created by the same person.
2. Batuu doesn't exist in the movies and is literally only in Disneyland and ts4.
3. The different "aliens" or "species" in the star wars universe are all their own individual race and nation, but ts4 made them costumes, which takes away from the authenticity of them. Now obviously ts4 couldn't make them all occults with dif powers and such(I don't think it's in their budget and time limit), but they could've literally been just occults without any special powers or systems.
If u want a solid star wars game get Battlefront II. It's literally way cheaper than the sims 4 game pack.

20:22 It would be great if they were working on a pack that includes learning to drive, buying a car, etc. Because as a gameplay it would be great to be able to take exams, see the sim practices, work to get money and go to car stores to choose the car, etc. Maybe private driver careers, driving school teacher, taxi/uber driver, traffic warden... I don't know. including cars in the game gives a lot of content. But maybe they save it for Sims5?

@@maggiejo860 I think it’s just pure laziness, they worked in the Sims 2 despite that not having an open world either, they could’ve put them in the Sims 4 *really easily* but they just didn’t… and it’s been like 8 years now so they’re unlikely to be added.

@@justanotheryoutubechannel Actually is not that easy to add them currently, mainly because of pathing issues. They would need to update all the worlds to have paths for the cars to move in or not allow you to place them in certain worlds. Imagine trying to place a car in Sulani...

I don't really get why people want cars, it would be hell. I already lose my mind when the sims go travel somewhere and they run through the whole neighborhood and then disappear, imagine everytime you sim travel, they just summon a car, freeze for a while, and then disappear. Imagine have to reset the sim when they go to work, the missing work message appears, the boss calls and there is your sim T posing in front of the car again. Now imagine the worse scenario: they make animations of the sims entering the car. The hellish entering and leaving the car animations over and over like the bikes.
i mean they could just make cars spawn next to the lot and make the sims enter it and then it would disappear and the loading screen would appear. It's not difficult, ea just doesn't want to update the base game.

I 100% agree with the no religious stuff in the game EXCEPT I feel as though muslim friendly clothing is a requirement. Although hijabs and other coverings are religious items, the sims 4 is supposed to be a safe space for everyone and everybody should feel represented.

I remember hearing some controversy about the knitting back being a ripoff since it just reused animations from a previous pack, and one about eco lifestyle stuff being downgraded to just laundry because it was easier to develop, only for eco lifestyle stuff to actually come our years later.
The biggest controversies I heard about were the pools, cars, and toddlers. Personally I didn’t care about the lack of pools as I don’t drown my Sims for fun and I don’t care that much but people were FURIOUS about it. The toddlers were the biggest disappointment, they should’ve been free at launch rather than split into an update and an stuff pack like 2 years later, especially since they were a really good phase in the Sims 3 and the babies also got nerfed. Luckily they got added and arguably were even better than the Sims 3, but I was really upset by this change.
Cars were another huge one, I didn’t care that much because you didn’t need them in a non-open world but a lot of people were ENRAGED. They could’ve been implemented *really easily* and made to work like the Sims 2, where your Sim would get in the car and drive off the edge of the lot then trigger the usual loading screen/just disappear and go to work, but EA couldn’t be bothered so we didn’t get them.
The lack of an open world itself was a controversy, while losing the open world is a shame it was done to make the game run properly and by comparison the Sims 3 feels very clunky, it’s laggy and glitchy and Sims move weirdly and teleport around, and the camera lags and stutters constantly as you move around and load new lots, and you rarely find many Sims out in public, the Sims 4 improved these issues at the cost of the openness. I would’ve much rather saw then release a Sims 4 with an open world that actually worked properly though, as I’m certain EA could’ve done it since the Sims 3 was really just held back by it’s age, it couldn’t use more than 3 CPU cores and was limited to 2048mb of video memory out of the box, and can only use 2gb of RAM without a patch and it’s locked to 4gb even with one because it’s a 32-bit application.
My opinion is unpopular, in that as much as I liked the sims 3 open world, I really enjoy TS4’s half open half closed world too. TS2 was just a bit too closed (although I do enjoy the mechanics of calling a taxi 😂) and TS3 was just a nightmare to run.
I could live without the open world. There’s no reason we shouldn’t have cars though. I can’t imagine they’re difficult to design & animate compared to other things like idk. Cows and llamas 😂 (though I was DYING for a country pack so I love it)
The sims 3 is just almost unplayable. I reinstalled it tonight and managed to make 2 sims, 2 horses and a shell of a house in 4-5 hours. Meanwhile my laptop can run red dead redemption 2 smoothly on high settings, which is a significantly larger game with complicated mechanics. I hear the gameplay’s great but I barely remember it myself as it’s always run at snail’s pace even though it was my fave game for years 😂
I must look up this patch though. Anything to help with the laaaag 😂

In sims 4’s current state, as soon as paralives is released everyone is going to stop buying sims content and stop playing sims 4 because they will all be going to paralives. I bought the Journey to Batue just to see how bad it was and why people hated it so mad. I was shocked about how bad it was I was bloody livid.
I sometimes think that the sims 4 is a weird alternate universe in which cars are the price of an IRL spaceship or cars were popular for a while and then everyone got sick of it..... much like the game itself
I like Star War, but I absolutely HATE Journey to Batuu. The game play is kinda ok, if you are ok being railroaded around. Played is in a try before you buy way... The build-buy things are only there so that they can be used on Batuu. They are pretty much useless and don't fit anywhere else.

So when The Sims 4 came out, I had already decided to not bother with The Sims 3 for reasons that aren’t relevant here (I recently got the base game, which is currently all I have), so I was still playing exclusively The Sims 2. I wanted to play a new sims game, I really did and then I found out no pools (which I actually do use a lot in the Sims) and no toddlers (which was and is my favorite life stage) and I just decided the game was without hope and didn’t bother looking up anything else on it for years. I only learned they finally brought toddlers to the game, because my sister played and didn’t get the game until 2020 when I heard about a sale. As a result I missed most of the other controversies, because they happened before I actually started playing TS4.
I remember the controversy about the eyeshadow palettes and their cooperation with mac in general. And something with the kids having romantic relations with adults? Or just something along these lines. Just people going crazy about this bug and rightfully so imo.
And then obviously the my wedding stories controversy along with them banning the pack in russia.
Oh, and also the kits controversy. It was pretty loud, when the announced it. Dunno if you'd consider the bust the dust kit controversy as one and the same or separate, but I remember people being very pissed off because it being a glitchy mess

I know people are still asking for cars but they really should stop because it will probably never happen....you would literally only drive to the load screen (like sims bustin out for playstation) if they did anything . We can't get fixes for bugs, no way they will rework the whole system to fit them in.

I'm a female and I couldn't care less about the extra stuff packs like kits and my first pets. BUT. The extra toddler stuff IS SO CUTE and I want to buy it next. I mainly buy packs for gameplay because I don't really trust mods. That being said, because MODS can help you with the game it's absolutely ridiculous the prices we are paying for the game.

This reminds me of the opposite of how games like The Last of Us by Naughty Dog worked. How long was the gap between the two parts? Part 1 on 14 June 2013, with remastered released in 2014. Part 2 was released 19 June 2020. So they took 7 years to perfect the game for the second part and it DID NOT disappoint fans AT ALL. EA, please follow their lead!!

When the Star Wars game pack was announced some people were annoyed, some just made fun of it, some were totally pissed off and some were saying "I don't care about Star Wars but I'm glad for all of the Star Wars fans among us that they have a pack made for them." The last of those straight up put me into the "totally pissed off" group as an og hard core Star Wars fan. First of all we get a new trilogy that butchers our beloved universum with the most boring movie to start it of, second being retcon and the third being retcon of a retcon and bringing the most idiotic twist and toxic romance known to mankind. Then EA comes trying to make that last trilogy into even bigger cach grab than it was by creating a pack based around it. My friend then being one of those last group people giving me a key for this pack for my birthday was just the last stab into my already bleeding fan heart. I didn't use that key to this day and never will just out of spite towards this pack.
someone got offended at the shrine to pray to the Llama God. how long have people been asking for a shrine or something like that, with the Llama being the God? i am one of them. i had the Jesus Buddy in Sims 1, the pulpit and the benches people could sit in and worship! i did the same thing in Sims 2 with the pulpit. i would invite people over, have someone go speak at the pulpit, and have everyone go watch them speak! it was a business function we could make look like church. then everyone would eat from the Luau Buffet table when we were done, and swim in the pool! ❤❤❤❤
