Yep. I wasted money by trusting the link. Now I have to buy another set, which I'm now having second thoughts on since this guitar was supposed to be a modded - but not expensively so. My fault for not doing more research, but also a very important lesson learned that you can't trust everything you read.
I have one of these in purple burst, I can see how you can make a case for replacing the bridge, the other items are a bit harder sell for me. I might still do the nut, but other than that, the stock tuners are Jin-Ho Wilkerson(just take one off and look at the back), the pickups to me are a subjective thing, and the electronics aren't horrible IMHO. Just my .02. After I replaced the bridge, changed strings, and paid the local guitar tech $20 to set it up, I'm happy with mine. YMMV.
About the only thing I would have done differently would be to use a locking tuner. I've found this to be a big plus on an Les Paul no matter who makes it. The Dragonfire humbuckers are a great choice. They are wax potted where the stock pickups are not. I've worked on a lot of these for people, and these are good, basic solid modifications that make the guitar playable. What you have to watch out for on the Firefly is the neck angle. I have found three of the Les Pauls so far that I have advised the owners to return them because the neck was not glued in correctly. That's easy enough to spot when you start setting up the action.
a gibson lp will never stay in tune no matter what you do to them , i spent $37,936.42 having mine professionally set up. they had to remove and switch out the neck and replace the body but now it stays in tune
The problem is with Grover tuners as I’ve discovered after I ordered them from watching your video the little screw holes in the back of the headstock are going to have to be re-drilled didn’t tell us about that now did you what do you suggest to use to fill those holes
Thanks, I just bought my first Firefly, a black Elite model. I'm already the proud owner of 4 IYV's. Looking forward to my FFLP's arrival. The only thing is my tuner and bridge are gold plated, and I'll have to find gold replacement parts.
I have 3 Firefly guitars. First thing I do is replace the bridge. The tuners on two of them preform well so didn't replace. One FFLP didn't stay in tune at all. New tuners coming. I replaced the pickups on my FFLP BKE with Alnico 5. My other FFLP I am going to try and keep the original pickup and swap out the magnets. $5 instead of $50.
@@jaxchiro FYI. The magnets in my FFLP BKE were ceramic. They are also thicker than Alnico magnets I bought on Amazon so I had to make a shim. Will let you know how it works out. Waiting for the new tuners and bridge.
@@jaxchiro I put Alnico 2 magnets in. I have 5's in others and wanted something different. Nice warm sound, no stuck pig feed back. 2's if you are playing clean, 5's if you go distortion.
I’ve just bought the FFLX model, kinda like the Explorer and I love it. I waited a long time to get a black one and after I bought it I haven’t seen another on their site.
Are the holes for the tuning peg on the guitar the exact same size as the tuning peg on the Grover which is 0.391,,,or did you modify anything in any way??
Just got a gold top and a 3 pup blue burst. In setting up the gold top tuners I need Tuners. I was originally going to pop in DiMarzzios but maybe not. Nice creamy sustain on the neck. And crunchy bridge. Very happy customer.
I ordered one of these the other day from Guitars Garden. They say it takes 3-8 days to process an order. What has been people's experiences with them? One person told me they got their guitar in a week and a half. With it being the Christmas shipping time, I expect a delay. I'm just wondering how much.
that's cool - i have a couple coming in next week. thing i am STILL trying to figure out is HOW to tell what pickups are better than what's in a guitar currently. *no one seems to have an answer* . like, i don't need hotrod stuff right now, just a decent tone. tried a cheap guitar on amazon and the pickups were terrible. like, even just doing a little noodling on clean - i was getting a headache. :( reminds me of *low quality headphones* ..... they aren't just bad, they can make your head hurt. so yeah. i need something that is decent. not stellar, just playable. how can i possibly tell online? trying to shop pickups and i know brand and specs alone don't tell the whole story. where the hell do i start? : (
The Monoprice guitars are worth a look at if Firefly not available. I have both and many of the Monoprice guitars are better than Firefly for just a few bucks more.
It sounds like you tried to find things wrong with the guitar that didn't exist. I have heard some say it stays in tune crazy good. Maybe I'm being too hard but you should have kept it stock to actually see if anything failed before changing it out. Maybe you would not have had to ;). Just my 2 cents.
Sorry I have to disagree about a lot of things that you said about the Epiphone Les Paul standards and/or customs. For one thing they come with better pickups. The stock pro buckers epiphone's have sound a hundred times better than those weak firefly pickups. And even some of the standard parts on an Epiphone are still higher quality than a firefly. I've been playing Epiphone Les Paul standards and customs for years and modifying them as well. Yes, Firefly guitars are a decent bang for the buck. But Epiphone Les Paul's, at least the higher quality ones, are still a better value.
The Grovers you recommend ARE NOT direct replacements. Those have the screws in the Lower Center whereas the FFs screw holes are off to the Lower Side

Hope you upload again, this was a great channel

How do you compare the Firefly quality to IYV?
Thanks for the response brother. I put new tuners new potentiameter new switch New Gotoh bridge. And Seymour Duncan 59 ‘s cost me $500

Were the Grover tuners easy to install on the Firefly or did you have to make modifications?
I’ve just bought the FFLX model, kinda like the Explorer and I love it. I waited a long time to get a black one and after I bought it I haven’t seen another on their site.
Have Firefly guitars made any changes or improvements to there LP style geetars since you posted this video 4 Years ago?

Love your vids, hope you're about to drop another
Those pickups are regular aliexpress pickups. 15.00 each. Dragon buys them at the same place.
that strat looks sweet!
Awesome thanks man
I have the blue fflps and I put sh6 in the bridge an neck differ Tom bridge an tail sounds killer

Ronald Jr...Hope you are ok bro! Looking forward to the next vid!
Hope you are ok missed you

Is this new not a direct replacement or you must ship it down to size for the right nut height?
Great review, I just traded for one with these and other mods already done. Great guitar!
Hey Ron do you think you could make a video on how to install these mods you recommended? Thanks!
With those mods, you've got yourself a nice guitar, for not a lot of money! Hope you and your family are safe and well!👍😎🎸🎶
Hope you're doing well bud, wondering how the firefly looks today? Ordered one to fixup myself!
Did you have to file your Gotoh saddles
Which Grover tuner do I buy
Hey Ronald are you ok? You have not posted in ages
How large are the peg holes?
can the nut just go right in or does that need any sanding?
Need a play through of this guitar now that it’s modded
So how much did all this cost?
Hey Ron are you ok? No video uploads in almost a year. Hopefully the rona passed you by
Cant be to hot if there's 5 upgrades you must do.
What’s up with that giveaway video?
Ronald Jr I miss you I wish you'd put out some new videos what's wrong you ain't caught covid have you

Real meat at 2:05
Sure miss your great info videos... hope all is fine
I would just put a SH-4 JB pickup in the bridge and put a new set of ernie ball tens on it and call it done.
How to make a cheap guitar nicer:
Rip everything but the wood out and replace with your choice of quality hardware-electronics
Asher Solomon and it’s fun. But by the time I’m finished, it cost the same as a more expensive one. Lol. Almost every time!

fail basic math?
Where you at??
The ONLY way you can get a Firefly Les Paul right now is by paying extortion prices to SCALPERS who bought up all the stock.
Dang, mans died off :(
