I typed in "Beginner drawing basics" into YT and your compilation from 7yrs ago was the first to appear -- I'm *loving* it. I'm on episode 8 of your drawing series. I do loose watercolor and hand lettering, but I want to incorporate depth into my watercolors. I don't draw with confidence, so I just do very loose concepts, but I want to draw and explore creating more characteristic concepts -- I'm so happy to have found your instruction! I am enjoying your teachings immensely, and I find myself actually practicing with you. Thank you for sharing with the world. I am happy to have discovered your channel -- and even more so that you have flourished and continue to upload! I wish you all the best and hope you are well, peace.
IMHO you do NOT SUCK at drawing. Darn good at it. I am to the point I feel good about my landscapes and watercolor washes on my pen and ink sketches. It is the human figure that still has me going up the wall. I have been doing for years what you mentioned to measure one’s progress. All of my sketches and watercolors are dated. I can go back over sixty years and tell you when I drew or painted a particular piece. There are a few I did not date, mainly value studies and the like, but most all finished pieces are dated. On occasion I will open up a file and lay the contents out in chronological order. I can see the improvement in everything except figures. I’ll keep at it. Thanks for these videos. I get a lot of info and an extra push to draw and paint out of them. I really love your animals. You have put some time into honing that skill and it shows. Looking forward to your next video. Stay safe and healthy and may this new year be a good one for you. -OkieSketcher1949
This video have reminded my first drawings they aren't perfect but i actually had fun when i drew them. I experienced determination and having fun is the key of the success. Nowadays i still having fun. By the way it's long time to see you i hope you are doing well Mr. Schafer. Stay in peace and have fun in your drawing destination. :)
There is an exercise where draw the same thing everyday. Give yourself a time limit, I usually start with half an hour. Later you may need more time. I do this with new mediums. Being proficient at anything takes practice practice practice.
Great attitude.....have fun relax and enjoy the journey that's half the fun it will come I've been drawing for 40 years ... Stay loose don't try too hard and start with simple subject matter .

I suck at drawing. The only thing I know how to do that is still bad is in the form of sticks like stick man. I would like to learn how to draw well everything that comes to my mind. From simple things to complex things. For example, I would like to draw machines, places, events, characters, etc. But I never really practiced to improve.
or, there is another option . when you dont see results means that your creative energy is low and there is no passion in drawing or creating ....so DO SOMETHING ELSE . when a person is very passionate about drawing ,it will be like walking or breathing to improve . it will be fast . otherwise means you try too hard and you'll feel drained . at least spend your energy doing something that awakes your passion . but even this DOING stuff all the time can become exhausting . long breakes can be healthy
I want to draw / make a manga or mangaka and i can tell you IT IS torture cus u need anatomy / backgrounds / character designs / poses its pure torture. But i want to do it!. Its just soo hard to do and there are to many balls in the Air. Millions of youtube guides and more and i still suck. Its horror.
Yeah I hear you, I started getting into human figures and anatomy and portraits back in September and there is so much to learn. I've been drawing basically my whole life and for me to get decent at portraits and such, still took me 2-3 months of everyday practice. It is quite difficult but not impossible. Just dedication and time. Repetition. You'll get there :)
Best advice is just get better and try harder🤣 keeping did it when he was little and he couldn't shoot to save his life then, then he grew up to splash on each defender that tested him and astonished people with his skills on court.

Good to see that you’re still active. Some of the artists that I used to watch have become inactive in the past few years. 👍

7 años estuve sin dibujar. Peor decision ue he tomado en mi vida. 7 años en lo unico ue pensaba era en volver a dibujar
for me sometimes it just feels like my brain wont let me draw and its so frustrating.
