Hello Hugh, I've been picking up types of flower seed to buy for next year from good people like yourself, I ordered some lupin & strawflowers seeds yesterday & Delphiniums look like my next purchase 😀
I have lots of grteen plants/shrubs in my garden & need to brighten it up with more colour next year,
Aarrgghh! Slugs are the bane of gardeners, I'm over run with them here 😡 I've stopped taking any plant from the garden into both my greenhouses for fear of the slimy so & so's getting in there.
I put a big bagful of vegetables peelings into my compost bin this afternoon & picked 10 of the blighters off the inside of the compost lid. ☹️
Thanks for the videos, they're always informative.
Thanks for watching - sounds like it’s going to be a wonderfully colourful one there next year ! Yep, keep picking them off and throwing them away !! I do throw some slugs into the compost bin here, let them work for there food ... Lol. All the best, Hugh 😃🌿👍🏼
Superb, very helpful information, thanx a lot with best wishes 🙏
All the best there, Hugh 😃
I got given some seeds by a gardener at a country house and i thought id try a couple to see if i could get them germinated. Ive never grown them before. I put them in the fridge for a week then put them in some damp kitchen roll in a snaplock plastic bag and left them in a warm place.. was very surprised to see them start to root. Have just potted them on. Cant wait to see them. Thanks for the aftercare video. How long do the plants last.. one or 2 seasons? Or do they just keep coming back every year for years and you have to split the roots to thin them out?? Thanks 😊
Ah well done getting them growing and going! Yes they last from year to year, although once planted do watch out for slugs eating the young stems under the soil! And yes they can be split too! Happy growing there, Hugh 😀🌿🌿
i bought a delphinium, highland sweet sensation (i think that's it anyways) because it was the prettiest flower I'd ever seen. but i had no idea about delphinium care. so imagine my surprise and dismay at finding out the hard way just how yummy they are to slugs lol.
managed to save them with some copper tape i picked up at B&Q 🎉🎉 now I'm just trying to figure out the best time to cut them back for winter.
thanks for making this video and sharing your knowledge with us! :)
Thank you for dropping by and watching
How did you apply the copper tape? ❤😊
@@candace8167 verrry carefully lol and about half way up the pot (two rows of tape), because i know the little sluggy buggers can stretch pretty far. this is the second year having them and they've done fantastic, no issues whatsoever 😁
Ah that's great they've thrived for a second year - well done! Good quality copper tape is really worth it's weight (and cost) for keeping the slugs and snails away 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I am starting some more from seed. I´m told to put the seeds in the refrigerator for a week Then sow when outside temps are 15C to 20C. Do you agree with this? What else should I do to enhance germination. I know how to care for them once they come up. Somewhere I read needs darkness to germinate but this doesnt sound right to me
I’d say start them with a bit of heat in spring now it’s turned cold👍🏼🌿🌿
I've tried a few times to grow them but the slugs always destroy them 😷
Yep, some times it’s like all out warfare here with them trying to protect those fresh young growths !! All the best there, Hugh 😊👍🏼🌿
