I actually liked your break down of this performance. I have watched it loads of times and it gives me goosebumps every time, Lou is utterly amazing in this performance and love the gospel choir.
Thank you. I love your reaction. In my opinion, Lou Gramm had the best vocals I've ever heard. He is an absolutely amazing singer. Thanks for pointing out the shoulder. Unfortunately, now I'm going to be conscious of it in every video I watch...Lol. Again, you do a great job.
I had the pleasure of seeing Foreigner perform this very song live....on.. August 28th 1985....Allentown Fairgrounds. ...Allentown, Pennsylvania ...It was an Electrifying performance. ...I believe this performance was on September 22nd. ...in Champaign , Illinois.
Thank you for watching Lou Gramm! You're one of the few people on UA-cam to actually analyze him. I love Foreigner primarily because of his voice. Remember he's trying to also put on a show. That's part of why his shoulder is moving. He holds his mic with his right hand, his left arm/shoulder is free to emote.
I played 13 instruments and when I had to hit an absurdly high note on the French horn, I always dropped my shoulders in anticipation of the note. It always helped me mentally to be able to hit the note. I’m not sure if it’s a psychological thing for him as well but it was for me.❤️✌️
Vocal Splendor Studios Also to piggyback on my original comment, he has a very high upper register (obviously you’re aware of that), I always dropped my shoulders when playing my instruments to be able to belt those notes out. I would, right before the high notes, take a deep breath but it was improper breathing. My shoulders would raise when I took the breath and I would have to immediately after that high note take another breath.
It would do you a good service to see the official video. He looks very tired, hot and worn out. Beautiful song. I was around when it came out to the world. One of my favorite bands.
Love your reaction to this video. I can't sing a lick, but I have been a drummer for 61 years and worked in the studio with many great musicians and vocalists. I just subscribed. Great job.
As intentionally commercial as it was, Foreigner is still a guilty pleasure. Lou Gramm was great. And speaking of physical contortions, it immediately makes me think of Joe Cocker. Insightful analysis as always.
Oh absolutely - I have no doubt the younger Lou Gramm picked up some of these mannerisms watching his own heroes (inasmuch as you could in those days before the Internet).
I say the same. What the fuck does it matter to us the fucking lou's shoulder?? Please talk about voice technique, resonators; registration, voice placement, voice effects, vocal modes. Put yourself to work and talk about what you say you are teacher. You just missed my time cause you just talk like anyone regular person. You are not a teacher
You can tell right as he begins that he is kind of panting and lacking good breathing, I think that's one of the reasons why he is doing his phrases a bit shorter, though that's just me.. but I do agree that the shoulder thing is compensating or just looking for energy. Great reaction, I'm a 90s boy but the 70s and 80s will always be my fav ones, this is by far one of the best power ballads!!
Are we really criticizing one of the best singers of the 80s and 90s when he was still doing drugs and during his busiest years when he’s clearly tired and overworked lol? She should have picked a video from the 90s
I've seen a vast number of videos of Lou performing, and he has never been out of breath in the way he is in this video. See the same gig when he does Urgent (ua-cam.com/video/HuTLBsSlUz0/v-deo.html) or Hot Blooded: giving his all but not out of breath. It's just one of those rare moments when he is completely worn out. The shoulder thing: Lou was a drummer first, and he always moves to the music. He's usually holding the mike with his right hand, so the left takes up the rhythms and emphasis.
Lo Gramm is the best singer ever!!! No one can sing this song as good as Lou!! Stop about the left shoulder..its ridiculous wat u are saying!! ..hes been singing there for hours!! I
Good analysis seeing thing’s obvious to you and oblivious to me. What ever occurred prior to this video caused him to be really out of breath at the beginning of the song. They should have given him a minute to recover. He still pulled it off. What a great performance!
He probably just sang one of the faster rock songs. He seemed like he was trying to catch his breath. It also seems like the weather may be hot! It is Farm Aid. He is a perfectionist! They also toured 18 months straight during that time.
I appreciate you doing such a legendary singer and song but in my opinion you could have chosen a different performance because clearly he is very tired. This is one of those years he toured an insanely amount, and was still doing drugs lol. Pick one from the 90s when he’s at his best
I have been watched over other version's of this song, still think this is the best one. Just this tiredness makes his voice even more authentic and powerful. Like nothing could stop his singing no matter what
@@qingwei6970yes to me that's exactly what's so moving about this performance, because it matches the theme of the lyrics so well- it's about someone who's emotionally fatigued and vulnerable, somehow finding the strength to believe in love again, or trying to, with a little encouragement. It's very powerful.

Lou es lo mas ,personalmente me encanto , hay q ser un poco mas considerado estaba muy cansado es entendible , por mi si movia el hombro o lo q sea estaba genial buenisimo y las opinones de esta señora son ridiculas
Well i guess Foreigner could have been a more successfull Band if Lou Gramm didnt move so darn much and concentrated on his lacking singing technique. Irony off. Maybe his movement is an expression of him singing an emotional song, or its just as any other signature "tick" or move that many many famous artists have. Instead of trying to steer people towards your singing course by critizising one of the most respected and influential Live Vocalists of the 70s and 80s, you should show your knowledge and talk about his intonation, range, tone and phrasing. For example.
@@congakoenig Well, since most voice teachers who do reactions, also teach, that shouldn't be a shocker for you. And Lee Gramm rocks it, twitches and all!
Lou Gramm is beyond doubt one of the greatest vocalists of all time.
I actually liked your break down of this performance. I have watched it loads of times and it gives me goosebumps every time, Lou is utterly amazing in this performance and love the gospel choir.
Lou always give his all until he really cant....one of the rare singers with such a unique vocal
Lou gramm and foreigner is one of my childhood.. for me He is one of the best singer of all the time..

Lou Gramm have a metafisical perfomance! One of the Best voices in the Rock'n Roll in all these times! Eternal Hit !
Love Lou Gramm❤️

Lou Gramm the best 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 show 👏👏👏👏👏Brasil

I think this was at the very end of that gig, so he would have been exhausted.
Or he’s just got subconscious quirks? He sounds amazing, that’s all I know

This is my favourite performance of theirs
Foreigner is my favorite group and the song is pretty but sad
She reduced Lou’s performance to a competition... eliminating all the soul and emotion of the song. Like an engineer explaining what love is. Ugh

Until the end of time is a very emotional song that Lou Gramm sang that is beautiful try that one
loved the reaction tnx, loved hearing ur analasys of the performance...

OMG memories galore here!
Stop criticising Lou's left shoulder....he is perfect, full stop.
❤❤❤❤Lou Gramm 👌
Joe Cocker would do the same body twisting when reaching for notes 😁🎵
Fantástica
Thanks for this great reaction!
Great one Valerie, that brings back some good old memories. thank you girl. You're Still The One :-)
He’s also high on H lady.. he doesn’t need your breathing techniques lol
He never did H, and his other addictions were kept for the down time when he wasn't on stage.
Lol, a nobody voice teacher says legend Lou Graham needs more breath energy??! :)
lol... why do trolls always have to come back and edit their trolling? 🤣
The shoulder shake is just a habit he has, nothing to do with getting energy
I wish you would do glen campbell, he gave a live performance on the tom jones show in 1970 of one of his songs that's out of this world
My God what a music..God have mercy..what a quire...pls can I have him sing in my wedding honestly...he need to take my house
Can't imagine her critique of Joe Cocker and all his contortions...

What is "breath energy "?
I like the term breath energy better than "support": It's how to generate power by holding back the breath.
OK, thanks.
Nice
