so glad to see a new video from you!! I've currently got 46 jugs sitting out in the snow, love this method as it saves me a ton of space under my grow lights! Looking forward to more videos from you😊
Thank you for all the great information on Winter Sowing! This is my first season trying the WS technique so all this information was incredibly helpful!
Winter sowing was successful on my first attempt in 2021. I actually planted 57 jugs of cool season annuals and some perennials. One thing I did was winter sow snapdragons and also plant some to put under grow lights. I enjoy your videos and hope that you can find your permanent garden space soon.
Yes mam, you are the OG of winter sowing. When I got back into gardening in 2019 after a long hiatus, this was the only channel w step by step info on Winter Sowing & how to grow each flower. Thanks for another great video. 💗🌸
My family and I enjoy your videos...new subscriber and fan from Northern California zone 9a... Because of you I didn't give up on my Snapdragons...Backyard gardening, 1st session going into 2nd season gardener BUT first time seed starting this earlyin the year.
I was first introduced to winter sowing watching your videos. I love this method and this spring I'm going all out to winter sow many, many flowers. Your videos are great, keep up the great work, and a happy 2022 growing season to you!👍
Hey, I just wanted to let you know how much I love your videos. I have been watching your videos for a while now and I have become obsessed with flowers. I am planting a cut flower garden this spring and your videos have been so helpful. Seeing your garden has been truly inspiring.
Helping me stay on track for my sowing. I set a schedule already but seeing what you are starting helps me know I am on track. You and I share a very similar growing zone.
TFS Tonya! I have many of the same seeds and plan to order more. I'm a newbie at sowing many flowers but it's been a fun experience learning while starting my flower farm. I started growing 9 years ago. Flowers over the last six years. Seed sowing using different methods. Good luck to you and everyone 2022 the year of the Farmer/Florist
I have ordered several times from Swallowtail Garden Seeds and have always got good germination. They still have the pink Lavatera and Love In A Mist, in stock.
I let my bachelor buttons re-seed and they got sooo tall! i'm actually going to have to re-watch and write down some of the flowers that you said to try for winter sowing!
Sending you and your garden happy thoughts! I have a bunch of columbine seeds that I'd love to send you if you have a PO box. I know you're limited on space though so if you can't grow 'em I understand. They're from my friends and family garden, where I grow flowers that I get as gifts. The Columbines are far and away the most special to me and they were so prolific this year I want to share them! One variety is from my parent's farmhouse, that grows a massive bouquet on one plant. It has pink/yellow doubles. Most people would know that one as Granny's Bonnet. My grandma gave me seeds out of her garden before she left for Arizona, they grew blue/white semi doubles and blue/white singles. The plants they came from were purple and yellow, but she had some white doubles too so I think they crossed. My church grandma gave me my two tallest varieties, they grow royal purple singles and a pale white single with green petal tips. I have a lot of seeds out of that white one, haha. that plant went crazy this year. They're probably all cross pollinated with each other, so I don't know what the offspring will look like. They drew in quite a spectacular show of hummingbirds and bumblebees and many of them did surprisingly well in flower arrangements. let me know if you want a mixed packet of them! I have literally so many I could never grow them all, haha!
That sounds lovely! Thank you so much for the kind offer. At this point, I'm not even sure if I have the room for half of the seeds that I bought! LOL! Happy gardening! :) :)
My calendula are bug magnets. I can’t bring them in the house. I’m a way it’s good because it keeps bugs off of other things but it’s sad too. Yours look so beautiful all your flowers do. Thank you for this fantastic video. I’m so happy about your method of winter sowing. Thank you
This was super helpful! I have watched it three times, just to get the info deep in my brain. This will be my first time winter sowing. I ma in zone 7a just south of you in TN. I have your booklet, which is great, but this video is helping a lot-more than many others I have watched. Thank you so much for sharing!
What great timing on this video! I followed your winter sowing videos to try my hand at it last season and it was a huge success! Thanks to your guidance and generosity of information through your videos :) I'm just getting ready to start this year's bounty but it's so cold here right now....
Always nice to see you on here. I hope to be moving, would be great sooner than later so I'm only starting 5 - 6 of each seed. The plan is to use the big lettuce containers from the store and soil blocks, thinking I can just move the block into the garden. Look forward to seeing your blooms.
Been trying to find an excuse to plant SOMETHING to scratch my garden fever itch and I think I found it. I've got some apple blossom snapdragon seeds too and I think I will try the winter sowing method with them!
Hi Neighbor! Excited about winter sowing again. Love your channel. I'm in Lou., KY 6b and I think we're fairly close to each other. Check your site first to see what you're doing. I'm always impressed!
Good to see ya again! 😄 Here in southern Kentucky and I’ve yet to winter sow! Feeling the pressure though lol I’m wondering if the upcoming mid 50s will affect them positively or negatively? This will be my second winter sowing, and I’ve SO many I’m starting 😄 Mostly perineal flowers and cold tolerant herbs. Stay safe this evening, not sure exactly where ya are in ky, but this evening will likely be a white out!
As long as the plants are either hardy annuals or cold hardy perennials, the temperature swings shouldn't be a problem. I'm so ready for warmer weather! 🌱🌱🌱
@@TONYAwiththeflowers That’s what I figured, but was wondering! In that case, I may get on it so maybe some can germinate with those warm temps and get to growin!
I thought it was something I was doing wrong with phlox I always have great success with winter sowing phlox and growing them but when summer comes along they die on me I'm in zone 8b west Texas so now I know that can't handle our temperatures thanks for the information 😀 👍
Mine is also clay. I had my first real success with hollyhocks last year. It seems that timing is really important. They have to get large enough to over winter (like a biennial), but small enough to not get hit with a severe rust infection.
Truly the best gardening channel on UA-cam!
Thanks so much for your kindness and support! 🌱🌱🌱
I was just watching your old videos. What a pleasant surprise!!!

Jet black hollyhocks are so amazing! 🖤💗🖤 I’m also growing blue Governor Lupines, I hope they’re as blue as the pics.

Hi can you please tell me what the oval green bumpy flowers with purple tops are?

Love your channel!!
Those are drumstick alliums. I think I have a full video about them. Thanks so much for watching! :)

I have the same problem with phlox. Also the carnations and godetia. Thanks so much for watching! 🌱🌱🌱
Tonya are you back in KY or TN? Was curious about the different zones and if timing was the same for winter sowing for you.
I dont really have a permanent garden at the moment, but am still using this one until summer. The timing should be pretty much the same though. 🌱🌱🌱
Is there a list of all of these ??
Trying winter sowing
Good luck! Happy gardening! 🌱🌱🌱
What type of soil do you use when planting hollyhocks? I have clay soil in 7a. I’ve tried bare roots and all, no success.
Mine is also clay. I had my first real success with hollyhocks last year. It seems that timing is really important. They have to get large enough to over winter (like a biennial), but small enough to not get hit with a severe rust infection.
Which variety of larkspur's are in video?
The larkspur are the 'QIS Mix' 🌱🌱🌱
Can anyone order from geo seeds or do you have to have a tax ID number/ buy whole sale?
Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching! 🌱🌱🌱
First to nerd out😍
Hooray! 🌱🌱
Chabaud is beautiful but need staking.
Definitely! 🌱🌱🌱
Sow those lupine seeds in sand and see how they do. That is their natural habitat, sandy soil.
Thanks so much for the tip! Maybe that's the problem, my soil is really heavy. 🌱🌱🌱
👋!
🌱🌱🌱
What are you in?
I was once in a group in Facebook someone ask if this style is considered winter sowing and the admin said it’s not, lol I unfollowed them!
I love this method so much! Thanks for watching! :) :)
