Jennifer Your complaint is unnecessary I bet you didn’t know Mercedes, Volvo have retractable tops. Ford was ahead of its time. You exaggerated some of your findings.
The retractable hardtop was originally designed to go into the 1956 Lincoln Continental Mark II. This is probably why the roof on the Connie 2 is so small and the price was $10,000 in 1956. The trunk was on backwards and the skyliner mechanism has lots of motors, switches and other little things that break. When they were driving the prototype sometimes the roof would get stuck when it was half way down, so you had to drive home in the rain with the roof and the trunk lid sticking up in the air, and when you got home it couldn't go into the garage door. The engineers decided it should only be put in a cheaper car.
