Riding out of the saddle is all about finding that sweet spot, where you utilize your body weight to peddle, without getting choppy peddle motion . If you miss that sweet spot, mostly by being in an easier gear, you end up over compensating the excess choppy peddle motion and your knees are taking a serious serious beating (people who are heavier will realize this more than someone who is 55-60kgs) .. find that sweet spot of your weight and that gear to tackle the gradient ..
I find that by swaying the bike (in or out of saddle), I am using my upper body to force the paddle up as the leg is pushing down on the down stroke, this will result in more torque to the rear.
Eureka!!! Thanks for the insight. This instruction video really did help me understand a little bit about ridding out of the saddle. Been trying it for months but seem to be doing it wrong. But the equal pressure thing to the pedal make the difference. Thanks again.
Thanks for the video. You are very good at explaining things in a clear way. My question is why my thighs feel burning and lactate build up quickly once I start get out of the saddle ? Thanks !
Excellent tutorial. I have a weak left knee and find that when I am out of the saddle my power transfer is very jerky from left to right. I feel that the slow, low power practice shown will help me overcome that. Thanks!!
Try staying on your saddle as riding off the saddle is putting a lot of stress on your knees. Also increasing your cadence (85+) with high gearing (small chain ring front and larger gear in the back) will further reduce the stress on your knees.
Eugene I'm new to cycling and I find riding off the saddle really difficult.. I am not getting how to apply equal pressure on both legs, because when you're pressing down one leg, pressure or weight would be naturally be more on that leg.. And even swing of the cycle in opposite off the leg which is pressing down is bit difficult for me
#3 is the advice I needed! Thank you :)
6 min. 32 sec. on point tutorial. No waste. ❤👌
thanks! hope you found value out of the content, more to come!!

Also, right now I'm on a trainer, could that be my issue since I can't sway the bike right and left?
Nice video with clear instructions. Equal pedal stroke and practicing slowly on flats makes a lot of sense. Thank you.
Hi Eugene! Fellow cyclist and youtube enthusiast here! Nice tutorial, keep the work!
Thanks, you too! Really appreciate the support!!
Thank you for the tip on riding out of the saddle fellow cyclist.
That was good man. Put in simple terms and straight to the point. Keep it up

yeap for sure! it definitely works well on steep climb and sprinting as well, and will result in higher power generated for sure :D
Wow!! This video is so good, clear explanation and good demonstration. I'm sure this will help me to master riding out the saddle. Thanks

Awesome tips, I feel very unstable riding in drops out of the saddle, but on top of the hoods I'm fine. I'll practice this tomorrow. Thank you
This is so detailed. Ill try it first thing in the morning. Thank you so much.

Glad it helped! Maybe some off the bike strength & conditioning work could also help improve the knee stability as well!
