  • There are 3 different types of releases on the market. Trigger activated ( Nock2it), tension activated (Silverback+/BackStrap), hinge release (2smooth).
    In this video I walk you through the pros and cons of each release style and discuss what I like about each one. Each release has a specific purpose and each one is of the highest quality you can get in its respective category. It really boils down to what you need to suit your favored style and function.

    Smart subject. Archery is a process of experience and we all move thru the various release methods/models as we progress. Personal choice. Starting with finger style release and moving thru a trigger style and back tension. Shooting a pure hinge like Randy Ulmer (Stan 2 finger) is another level of release. It is interesting to see how the top shooters and the top bowhunters compare and can learn from each other. Thanks for the info in a positive way. The trainer you demonstrate for the honest controlled surprise release timing is certainly key to develop and refine your personal inner mind's timing. Each person has their own effective hold and aim amount of time to be effective. Don't forget to breath and exhale controlled slow as comfortable during the trigger process. Lots to talk about so do post more videos please. Thank you

    I bought the Backstrap when it first was released. It has helped tremendously with my target panic and most importantly shooting at animals. It forces me to slow and think through the shot and execute properly. I’ve shot a release for 30 years. Tried a thumb release but didn’t find it practical while hunting. A high collar on a jacket would always interfere. The Backstrap combined the best of both worlds for me.

    Well I have to say I very much enjoyed the video you presented. Concerning the Knock to it release! I have shot Carter releases most of my archery life! But I absolutely loved your PIN POINT description of the point of the Elbow, being the point of thought, while applying tension. Best illustration. I will use this instruction for sure and as you have instructed, will pass it along.
    Oh on a personal note, I was paired with you at the ASA event in Metropolis Illinois, many years ago, the three amateur’s me being one, was fortunate enough to shoot with you on the practice range.
    John you shot well on the range! Thank you for sharing your knowledge on UA-cam, we both were much younger in those days, but I did enjoy shooting with the group and you on that day. Guess I’m speaking of at least 15 years ago. But in closing, God Speed! And keep on shooting and passing on the tradition, tradition is the only thing that keeps on giving!

    2smooth and Nock2it are my favorite and I’ve shot almost all the big names, Carter Stan UV Scott. They’re all pretty good but your hinge is imo the best. Like you said it’s a commitment but life changing. Always good advice from Dudley.

    I own the silverback and nock2it - both together make a killer combo - silverback teaches you proper form and shot execution - the nock2it with proper back tension just works for me.

    I only use 2 releases, Carter Just Cuz and Evolution +. Evolution for targets and Just Cuz for hunting. Honestly I have never seen another archer on the shooting line in a tournament shooting an Evolution but I’ve seen many that would benefit from shooting one.
    I wish the just cuz was quieter. I have a theory that the first thing a deer hears is your release crack.
    One trick I learned with the evolution is to put hockey tape on the finger grooves. You can’t have any slip or tension in your fingers. Without tape you will get too tense or deep in the release to prevent slip. With the tape you can relax and pull with no slip and a consistent shot. I Always keep hockey tape in my release pouch.

    I use both nock2it and silverback. Silverback was a blessing with target panic. John wondering can you make a video for break down,cleaning and oiling. Forgot to take mine out of hunting bag and now they're getting surface rust on black components. Thanks

    Love the Back Strap. I'm thinking of trying the Silverback though. I can't decide whether I like a hand held or wrist strap better.

      Any release that you can be accurate with is a good release.
      Comfortability and personal preference is everything (aside from having / developing a surprise release).

    Got the silverback, I just need to get my peep height adjusted for it. Seems like you’re really driving home to principle of back tension in this video which will hopefully help my target panic lol

    interesting video, i own too many releases and i go back and forth when i am slumping. you are asking what we want but i think you should tell us how we should start off. which one should we use first? all of the pitfalls you mentioned i have experienced. i own stan releases all three kinds but i have trouble with back pressure. it is not consistent, i might pull to hard, not enough so there is the target panic or the bow flies up a bit because i pulled too hard. what would suggest if i start from scratch. thank you

    I use the Tru fire smoke I did switch this past season to Scott archery release but I hate it. I'm going back to Tru fire bc I like the trigger and I like how it snaps back. But I am going to buy the Tru fire edge release soon. Tru fire is my go too. Scotts releases suck.

    Great information! I bought and used a UV Button this year and admittedly I am a bit of mess right now regarding consistency. It's obvious to me that I punch the trigger and to use your words absolutely have no control over my shot. There have been a few times where I fired my release and I had yet to center my pin on the target, leaving me to think why on earth I just did that. I will be thinking hard about purchasing the Silverback. Thank you!

    I have a question. With the Silverback, if you let your bow down without pulling the thumb safety, will your bow not go off when you obviously didn’t want it to? Just something that I would have to pay a lot of attention to of i shot a release like that.

    • @BlairThibault
      @BlairThibault 7 місяців тому

      Yeah it would go off because your release fires slightly after your holding weight. If you let down your bow enough to get off the back wall it will fire

    • @tylerlee5349
      @tylerlee5349 7 місяців тому

      Yea I would definitely be slinging some arrows when I didn’t want to, until I was very familiar with that style release.

    • @jrhunt414
      @jrhunt414 7 місяців тому +1

      I have shot an Evolution since it first came out and not once have I ever released an arrow while letting down the bow. You may think you will but you won’t. Just hold that safety and let down. Do it a few times and your brain will never let you forget to hold that safety.

    The Silverback would be the greatest release ever if somebody could figure out how to make the release even reasonably consistent. If you want the release to fire at say, 18lbs, you can set it close, then the damn thing will go off anywhere from 16.5 to 19.5 pounds.
    Lastly, why in the world would you make the Nock2it without a open hook? It would be the best thumb button hunting release ever made if you had a hook on it.

    • @philmcafee343
      @philmcafee343 7 місяців тому

      Hmm that makes me think it might not be me all the time lol. I was thinking I was just loading the back wall too much sometimes

    • @drewolm
      @drewolm 7 місяців тому +1

      It’s the release to some degree. I really like the silverback and the Carter solution 20 but both release fire at a wide range of tension even when you pay very close attention to anchor, hand placement and angle how you’re pulling.

    • @josephhopkins2851
      @josephhopkins2851 3 місяці тому

      The Nock2it is designed pretty well actually. It's closed jaw design actually functions like an open hook release because of the way it releases the string upon firing. Being able to attach it to your D loop is just a bonus you can't with open hook releases. I guess if you have an issue having it attached to your D loop while hunting then your complaint is valid. I've never had an issue with it at the range or in the field.
