I went to Japan last year. There I genuinely met some of the kindest, friendliest people and they were incredibly polite. The majority of people there kept to themselves and were very respectful, which makes these influencers acting out for attention that much worse. If you visit another country, you respect that Country's norms and standards.

Public decency is gone. You don't even need to have someone filming a TikTok. There's people all over at doctor's offices, restaurants, gyms, airports, etc. blasting their phone at full volumes and having what are sometimes *EXTREMELY* private conversations that should stay very private.

@@UA-camDweller8008 Well, for one thing, 'rural' areas don't have the housing and or land available for any kind of mass migration.
Also, in some areas it's way, way more expensive to move to them.
Plus you have the issue of transportation, which further increases the cost of living.
And then there's the job issue. Rural areas don't always have a lot of opportunity.
@@UA-camDweller8008 Because a lot of people can't. Firstly, there's the financial issues. A lot of people just can't afford to move anywhere, period. Then, there's the matter of work. A lot of people these days do jobs that can only be found in cities. Personally, I think the solution to that is to make your own business so you can go wherever the hell you want, but a lot of people don't have what it takes to run their own business, hence why so many of them fail in the early stages. Then, there's the matter of history. This isn't so much a thing for Americans, but it's very common in Europe. I recently watched a documentary about a Serbian family who lived in the same apartment since 1912. Obviously, that wasn't what was remarkable about the family, but remember that they stayed not only in the same city, but the same apartment in Belgrade through 2 world wars, 50 years of socialism, Milosevic's wars, and the NATO bombing, and they are still there. Tons of European families have similar stories. When your family is so deeply ingrained with a certain area, I can understand refusing to leave
I guess the city is just more comfortable for many: you have everything you need close by.
Still, basic decency in public is really dead, no respect for others anymore. Influencers are just the worst offenders. It feels like just another symptom of western civilization having entered a phase of decay after prosperity.

Most of the people that do this type of crap probably have crippling attachment issues that manifests itself in the need to be loved by other people which would not be a sign of a narcissism. @alexbernard6220 please do a simple search on types of narcissism. At the very least the influencer plague is fueled by a sub section of narcissism that is generally labeled as Exhibitionist Narcissism. There are a few other types of Narcissism that this behaviour fits into. A compelling argument could be made for it being a type of Community Narcissism.
I don't dispute your assertion that most of the underlying causes can be traced back to parents/parenting and also broken homes. This is a well accepted truth for most of the types of Narcissistic Behaviours evidenced today. That is not to say that some people do not just exhibit the hallmarks and behaviours without a root cause. Some people are just messed up from birth unfortunately.
If you do indeed do a search, enjoy going down the rabbit hole of one of the most dangerous types of mental maladies present today. It's shocking the level of disregard for other people that those with Narcissism and Narcissistic Tendencies have.

I live in Tokyo, and I absolutely hate the fact that this city is now trampled with tourists filming and recording EVERYTHING..I even saw a group of people doing that in my neighbourhood whuch is just an ordinary neighbourhood, not a tourist attraction at all !!
And just recently, I saw 3 guys ( two blacks, 1 white) dancing and recording while crossing a VERY busy street and suddenly, one of them dropped and laid down on the street..causing one elderly lady to tripped over him and fell down face first. And those guys just laughed and ran away. Sigh.
I went on a pilgrimage to India and Nepal. I noticed at the sacred religious sites they have to put out signs saying "No music video shoots!" and implemented a no selfie sticks & tripods policy. All because of narcissist disrespectful influencers.
I had a group of girls knock over my son in Walmart over the summer while filming for TikTok in Walmart, we walked around the aisle and they crashed into him with a cart. They were all in tears by the time I finished scolding them.

Before the internet, we had libraries chalk full of books. I doubt the average person spent a single second of their day consuming that knowledge. Laziness will always be a deterrent when it comes to intellectual curiosity and the pursuit of understanding the world around us.

Most of the time, in order to film in a location, professionals have to get a permit and pay actual money for it, yet somehow these "influencers" think they're entitled to that space in any public location out of self-importance. @@EgoFeederzPreviously, if you acted very inappropriately in public and someone violently retaliated, there was little evidence of the crime and the police were lax in their enforcement (probably because they secretly agreed with the retaliation).
Now everyone is filming everything and police have to enforce the law, even when normally they wouldn't want to. I know it's crazy but sometimes punching someone is the correct response, though it's rarely a legal one.

I confess I am a scrooge. I hate all this kind of content. I hate influencers. Maybe it comes from growing up in a rural area with a lot of Germans, who abhorred any kind of showing off or making an exhibition of yourself. Even us kooky theater kids practiced our weirdness in a way that was kinda of self-effacing and low key. And we didn't mess up the lives of ordinary people for our own benefit.

Yes, and I've heard that many of them have OF-accounts where they apprenetly they have no problem at all with this and the only difference is of course that they get paid for it, which makes it ok then, but both places public spaces.

I actually saw one where a guy walked in frame and the girl just said “hey I’m recording just so you know, is it ok that your going to be on film i don’t wanna include you if you don’t consent “ which was really nice actually
As a former film student I remember we were never EVER allowed to film crowd scenes or scenes out in the general public because our teacher told us it was against the law to film people without their consent and profit off of it… such as a film festival ect ect I know this is probably just to avoid scrutiny within the university but
any person we filmed we needed them to fill out a form , all our actors had to do it.
The ones that piss me off the most are the ones who use children for clout. It's the ones who film themselves telling a child their dog has died or something like that, it's utterly disgusting.

Greg Douchette, a genuine champion of body building, has done a number of videos on these idiots and shown how they could have really hurt themselves making these videos. First question I asked my gym was if they allow people to record others. They said no, so I joined. I'm self-conscious, and the last thing I need is to be publicly humiliated by some tik tok imbecile wanting clicks and views.

@@SydneyWatsonThe thing is that they do annoying things and encourage others to do these things too, which they believe they'll get away with because the majority of people aren't confrontational, but a problem arises if they come up against someone who suffers from a mental health issue. There was a case about a year back where an 'influencer' who liked to play pranks in public got badly injured, I'm sure that there will come a time when someone gets fatally wounded, then who is to blame, the person who provokes the response or the person who reacts to the provocation?
None of them have ever influenced me thank god.

My favorite influencer moment was when that prank video guy f*cked around and found out a month or so ago by getting in a random doordash driver's face, tried to harass him, and caught the "lead flu" instead. Karma, it seems, can work fast: about 1300 feet per second in that case.
Yeah, but the door-dash guy got convicted of a gun-crime, though not for assault because the prankster really did seem threatening. As conceal/carry becomes more legal accross the US, bully-brand pranksters are going to end up catching a lot more lead. Darwin-Awards well earned.

A 12h remix of a song that barely classified as music, an 108min. compilation of home video's that might have been funny one by one, or an hour long collage of your awesome karate pork chops/jedi mind power swordfighting, do not make for interesting content. UA-cam never was high brow. Yes, there's some good content, but it's few and far between.
And the newest trend of know-it-all video's about ancient history or foreign cultures, written entirely by bots that cannot differentiate between the current state of understanding, and what was hip fifty years ago and debunked thirty years ago, is not what I'd call educational.
I think the first step should be stopping and refusing to label and call these people "influencers" or "main role character" or whatever other idiotic term we are calling them, and start calling them "public nuisance pests", "sociopathic narcissist", and "rude, immature attention seeking clowns". Change the language, change the behavior, or however that term goes. Second step is resisting to watch the content and blocking immediately.

I WISH I was the main character in my own story! I think I was for about 4 years in my late teens/early 20s but since my 30s I seem to only cameo every couple of episodes. Sometimes I may get an "also starring" credit, I think!

Calling them influencers is giving them too much power and credit. They're harrarssing strangers with the end goal being attention. Nothing more.

There was a time when people on social media still understood common courtesy. It's now about entitlement and attention and I hate it. I anticipate there will come a time when these influencers start getting physically harmed for their actions and that will get them to stop.
It’s especially annoying when someone is playing their own music in a place that ALREADY HAS AMBIENT MUSIC.

There’s an easy solution to this: start suing these ”influencers” for illegal commercial use of recognizable people in their videos.
Playing music out loud on public transit is very much A Thing in the major American city where I live. Sometimes two or three different people will be playing different songs at the same time, while two or three (or more) other people watch TikToks or reels without headphones.
If anyone says something, even "could you please turn that down?", they can expect to be met with a blank stare at best and screamed at by multiple people for not just "letting them live!!" at worst.
I love my headphones and don't understand all of this.
There needs to be a lot more social and legal consequences for influencers and far less rewards.
Meanwhile, I'm out here feeling bad for taking too long to decide on what bread I want at the store because I worry I'm blocking access to the bread someone else wants while I make my decision.

Sorry Sydney, I literally could not finish watching this - it made me so uncomfortable. This is actually a thing that people do? the world has lost it's collective mind. I live in a quiet place in Northern Idaho so I literally never have to interact with whatever the hell this is. and I prefer to believe that the human beings around here would never participate in such nonsense. and if they do, I've never seen it, luckily.
So glad I’m not poor anymore, and therefore I don’t have to take any type of public transportation whatsoever. I’d probably end up back in prison again if I had to put up with this shit on my way to work.

My friend was filmed by an influencer and then the clip was published, which went viral. He repeatedly called her to take it down and he does not agree to be a part of this clip. She ignored.
So he sued her and she had to pay him several hundreds thousands of dollars... In fact, he had her condo sold to cover his "actor's wage" ;-)
And rightly so! This behaviour will stop quickly if more people do this, because the law is always on the side of the person being filmed and published against their will.

I'm unsure how if they were in public as in The States it's been ruled time and time again that you have no expectations of privacy in public BUUUUUT this brings up an interesting question. My best friend is an ASL speaker as a result of oral cancer. Suddenly being unable to speak left him with a lot of social anxiety. I got a tearful video chat a couple of weeks ago because these idiots were filming themselves faking sign language at him for a "joke". It was so traumatic for him that he now has panic attacks about running errands by himself. I have to schedule my days off around his errands. These scumbags do lasting damage to innocent people for their 15 seconds of TikTok clout.
There is a school for deaf/mute children close to my house. Very often, there is a full bus of them, commuting to or from the school. I love to observe as they are able to communicate accross the entire bus or from the street to the bus thanks to their superpower of sign language. I sometimes envy them this ability and I think that we all should have got some basics of sign language in school as it may come in handy (no pun intended) sometimes.🙂
People doing things they would have been embarrassed to do in front of other ppl a decade ago....so they can post it online hoping thousands see you being a fool.

This is indeed a narcissism problem. The fact that these people see themselves as entitled to inconvinence others for clout is disappointing and shows our cultural decline. If one wants to document their life, a great time-tested means is a journal. This is not only private and safe for one's genuine thoughts, but it creates a primary source about your life that may prove useful in the future.
What they're doing is a good way to get sparked out messing with the wrong person. I'm definitely the wrong person.

In general people tend to lean more towards affectation when on film, vs a sense of honesty with oneself when expressing only thoughts as you do in written form. That said, there's no rule that limits a journal to writing. A person can keep a video journal. I think then the real problem though would come down to the fact that most of these particular people don't have a sense of honesty with themselves. They don't actually spend time with themselves and their own thoughts. These people are not making a video journal for themselves, they're trying to find validation through attention.

The true issue here is not the video format recording. It's how the medium is being used. People can lie equally as much when writing, especially when it pertains to seeking attention. We're on youtube, the land of clickbait titles... for example.

There were a couple of teenager's that drive around here and block parking lots and drive in the wrong lane with their camera out just waiting for someone to yell at them or flip them off so they can have a video..... it is really sad and pathetic... they act terrible and then try to play the victim .... I blame the parents for not raising them right or at all.

I miss social media in the late 2000's/early 2010's. It was just a hobby you did for an hour but people had lives outside of it and it wasn't bascially their whole existence. Simpler times.
Humans have always been narcissistic and egotistical but in this social media era it has skyrocketed to unfathomable heights, everyone of these "influencers" thinks they are truly the best thing since sliced bread, we are truly doomed.
As you say, people were always narcissistic, but never before had they had platforms that was frying their dopamine senses on daily bases. Social media is a drug, and these people are junkies. (acting crazy, no self reflection/selft respect even less respect for others)

Over the last few years, my anxiety around being perceived/becoming a character in someone else’s social media has gotten so bad, it’s made me much more reclusive. I felt the most comfortable during the pandemic when wearing a mask provided me anonymity 😮💨
We often encounter young women right outside the gates of our house posing for photographs, using either our gate or a neighbor's gate as a backdrop. When the owners of the house try to pass, they barely move out of the way and always look immensely bothered by us. One time, they tried to block the entire street because someone wanted to stride down wearing a bikini or whatever. My neighbor sent his daughters out right away to run back and forth in the background.
The thing is, none of the people who come here to pose in front of our houses even live in the area. Personally, I try to ignore them because as long as they're on public property, there's not much to do. However, several of my neighbors are more than a little fed up.
Edit: I finished watching the video, and the behavior of these "influencers" was pretty appalling. I haven't seen anything like this in real life, so I guess I'm lucky. I don't think it is likely that any of the young women doing their photo shoots in our street would "prank" us by attempting to break into our private property-they're not aggressive, just a nuisance.
People should remember that pretty much worldwide it is illegal to post the image of a stranger without their consent. If someone does that to harass you, sue them for unauthorized image use.
Untrue. In a public place, if you get your picture taken be it by yourself or with others or however, there's nothing you can do. Highly likely there are many pictures of you in the background or whatever in people's phones and on the internet.
The only problem is if you’re in a public place, you have no expectation of privacy unfortunately.

@@UnfilteredMedic depends on the specific building/business. I mean in supermarkets there's CCTV anyway, so you've no expectation of privacy. Now a hospital or doctors office is different. I live in Ireland and in waiting rooms in hospitals there are signs everywhere saying NO PHOTOS, VIDEO OR ANY AUDIO RECORDINGS ALLOWED. As in a hospital waiting room you do have an expectation of privacy. Most other shops , business and the streets will have CCTV so you are being recorded.

As just one examples, you've got the actual mental disorder and occasional self centered behavior being referred to by the same word. "Main Character Syndrome" is a bit more specific in that in describes a specific pattern of behavior where people show a complete disregard for everyone around them. It's completely untargeted, they just see themselves as the most important person in everyone's life. Clinical narcissists typically fixate on certain individuals in their lives, whereas these influencers think everyone thinks they are the most important person in the world

Like, at home in your house, or at a dance party. Many people are too self-conscious to dance even when alone, and this brings them great discomfort, and that's unnecessary! Everyone on earth is cringe, so we should embrace some level of cringe and stop over-judging ourselves or others.
It also makes me happy to think about people spontaneously coming together to dance for a minute, including in public. Any way we can come together in a positive manner, that's great!

Also, practically everyone plays music out loud on public transit now. If someone says something, some other patrons on transit very well may harass you because "let them live!!!"

Luckily this type of behavior is not that common in my country, mainly because you can still get booted or fined for public disturbance, but I remember one "influencer" from my country, two girls and one guy would run into some furniture store and jump on beds or some shit like that, and when they get scolded and kicked out this chick played the victim like she had no idea what she was doing.
