2:53 - ''people who are stuck in oil paints, they're fossills''
    6:02 -'i'm a painter'
LOL, pretty funny. James is a great artist - i think those who succeed on his level put in those long hours '16 hrs. per day' and have talent. many have great talent but can't put in the hours, too many other things on their minds etc.
many put in long hours with little talent - got to do and have both.
Amazing large work space by the way.

That first bit is out of context though.

I agree, hardwork beats talent. And that workspace is David Choe’s place where he does his stuff, it was a temporary studio for James

What you call talent, I call education, he educated himself, he put in the time.. His “talent” is earned.

I feel u guys did a good job.
He's very honest. Being one of the top paid illustrators in the world, he's trying to brake free from that industry to be a 'painter' (he's already a painter, but, well to be a gallery artist), but he is also very young, and wants 'more' of everything, that is to say not being content with just doing what he loves the most for the sake of it. The Dark side of the Art world is, having to deal with the 'Art World'. Anyhow, he's work is a great inspiration. And yes, Practice makes perfect.

And I was actually inking Buckingham. Didn't even get me as charity pinup. I don't envision much England talent trips out of Burbank. Lot of work for artist/graphic designers in that crazy fashion industry. Fairly easy work for a competent artist. Nice of Neil Gaiman to throw one of my licensed posters a compliment when I met him at a friends photo studio.

The photoshop comment didn't seem to me as ignorance... I for one find traditional art WAY harder than digital art. Yes it is important and incredibly useful but it just doesn't feel like it has the life to it traditional does. I mean I have done both and unless I keep my layers collapsed in PS my results always leave me dissatisfied.

photoshop is an amazing tool, but i agree with you and in fact photoshop and wacom tablet Art is easier, entire color changes and shadows can be created with 1 or 2 clicks of a button, MUCH different than actual drawing and painting by hand

Excuse me? "actual drawing and painting by hand"???
Well, I must have forgotten how to use my hand for my Wacom and Wacom pen, I think my asscheeks will do from now on.

his point was that people were judging photoshop and now it is used by the masses and accepted as a medium. To not get stuck on what is 'the right way to do art'

95% of the less talented students are there to pay the bills? It's who has the most drive. I know plenty of good solid artist doing nothing but putzing around.

when you're as successful as he is while making objectively beautiful artwork then your opinion tends to hold weight...

There's no such thing as objective beauty
