John Mbadi comes across as brilliant and honest. I hope he puts Kenyans first before Ruto and IMF. That's definitely not easy, but WE THE PEOPLE expect nothing less.
Definitely hop @Olive barrows is taking notes and @Yvonne Okwara check wat skills she missed on managing the tempo in a interview.grt work @SamGituku🎉🎉🎉
Politically I was not in good terms with Mbadi's appointment. Today I can see he has some vision. I would like to see him work then judge him from that. He's clear on his job.
Tumbocrats to be exact. He will very soon realise accepting to work with a shrewd and corrupt, evil Ruto is Impossible. Uhuru tried but it didn't work.
Mbadi SOLD his soul ! As a politician you have to stand on your principal and don't droll when shown glitter...should have left Ruto n gang carry each one of their crosses !!
Did you hear what your predecessor told you? High taxation doesn't amount to collecting more taxes. Don't misuse the goodwill Kenyans have given you when you were in opposition. Things will go south so fast if you insist on bringing back the 2024 Finance Bill.
I like this, Increase on exercise duty on imported sugar will make it difficult for cartel who capitalize on it to flood the country with the sugars hence protecting our local manufacturer.
Mr Mbandi, the time of protectionism is long gone and that was the Country commitment in 1994. What is required is a safeguard measures not high taxation or punitive approach. I agree protectionism approach is a tired, out of tune economic model. Cost of production is caused by high electricity bills, corruption, luck of commitment to trade facilitation that, lead to unfavourable and unpredictable economic environment. The problem of Sugar industries is mismanagement, again corruption and politicians who want to import Sugar under the illusion of dumping and self created. Shortages. For dumping there is a WTO are trade facilitation measures such instituting anti-dumping reviews and investigation to the Country that's perceived to dumping it into Kenya. This again Mr Minister taxation is not a panacea and or a solution for protectionism approach for local industries. I offer myself to advice on matters dumping and countervailing measures as is specified in the Kenya Trade Policy Mechanism and trade instrument lodged at the WTO 1993-2006 and subsequent years thereof;. period.
Thank you Cs Mbadi and ODM fraternity by be the Cs Kenyans want coz ur suppose to work for the country and speaks to kenyans what they need to know and hopefully to take Kenya to the next level.
The problem with the leadership we have is they just talk, talk and talk to pass time, from there, life continues,it will be very stupid to think that anything changes.
On sugar levy to protecting local industry, the best option is to accord them conducive environment to operate. Cost of production, delayed payment to farmers, reduce electricity bill by kplc now that we have many sources of energy that is cheap. Discourage unnecessary imports and encourage local enhancement to bridge the gap.
All sugar factories not just in Kenya but globally practice cogeneration of bio-renewable energy, which means they produce their own power, in Kenya we do it by burning bagasse which is sugarcane waste, to run steam turbines or turbo-alternators to generate power...the issue here is the law which mandates that they still have to sell that power to KenGen and repurchase the same power from kplc at industrial rates. This defeats any financial gains they would have realized by simply consuming that power directly. Additionally, sugar factories have perpetually been plundered by local politicians and members of the executive through corrupt sugar quota imports, the illegal sale of nucleus estate lands, which creates substantial manufacturing inefficiencies, as factories sometimes have to keep running yet there is no cane being crushed because shutting them down will cost more in terms of time and money to start them up again, the use of defunct sugarcane production, farming & harvesting equipment, and techniques... privatization will only serve to cover up the glaring theft that has been going on in the industry. Unless the government takes intentional measures to not only invest in the factories but also the farmers by either funding out-grower associations to purchase modern sugarcane farming equipment like new fuel-efficient tractors, drones for fertilizer application, mechanical sugarcane harvesters, and most importantly visionary extension services like weather stations and quick accurate soil testing facilities to enhance or reduce their cost of operations, this is will be a zero-sum game.
Paying taxes is not a bad thing for the country as long as it's tangible to kenyans. protectionism of infant industries even if Will pay more in short term but will benefits in long term if our production increases we have surplurs automatically prices will go down.
Next time bring Opiyo wandayi on set. Let him explain why power is expensive in kenya. Why are the independent power producers in kenya keep on generating expensive power?? Their must be a price cap on power production in kenya, bila hivyo manufacturing and job creation is DEAD!!
How gullible people are in the comment section is mesmerizing. Just because he articulates well doesn't mean that's how its going to be. The finance bill being shoved down our throats isn't something to be happy about. Ask yourself why IMF is keen on it. We are economic guinea pigs for a model that may cripple us for good and you are here saying "well articulated sir"
I am not hearing anything new from what was proposed by previous regime. Only benefit is perception that current regime is inclusive; hence pacifying the proletariat
Mbadi has a lot of sense but ministries are run and reshuffle by presidential prerogative, trough state madrils eg Matiangi left education after many good reforms killing exam- business for others
Hii ni ukora, why don't they just pick all those good bills and have it put together and presented to the public for discussion (public participation).why sneak them one by one
Something has gone wrong with Mbadi. How does he say that sugar production has gone through the roof and yet everyone knows that its due to excess importation of unpackaged sugar
If you say Mbandi is a beneficiary of the Gen Z, remember he's a member of ODM and his leader is Raila Amolo Odinga. He's not partyless and leaderless.
Avoid reintroduction of any new taxes for now and concentrate on streamlining your ministry. Daring GenZ to visit you this soon is an error of judgement. It might cost you the kenyan flag and all privileges that come with it. Bring out the details on national debt, IMF and WORLD BANK. Also make KAA Adan deal to the public. I wish you well.

I think mbadi deserve a job to meet his needs like other person. It is not a matter of him leaving ODM.. He secured a job
His appointment imekusaidia aje so far
Was he jobless in the first place? The guy was earning close to one million shillings per month for crying out loud.
I hope Mbadi succeeds in his docket. His success in the ministry is the success of Kenya and kenyans at large.
Mbadi SOLD his soul !
As a politician you have to stand on your principal and don't droll when shown glitter...should have left Ruto n gang carry each one of their crosses !!

I like this,
Increase on exercise duty on imported sugar will make it difficult for cartel who capitalize on it to flood the country with the sugars hence protecting our local manufacturer.
Why was sugar impo😢
The big question is, can the local sugar manufactures handle the Kenyan consumption
The issue is cost of production in Kenya is high
Exactly
@kabuthexakabutha9472 exactly
The more things change, the more they remain the same 😢
No increase in sugar tax be it imported or local remove VAT on fuel to lower the cost

The importation of Suger should be rejected in totality to safe guard our sugarcane farmers who are currently suffering.
Ask Waziri why he sounds soft unlike when he was in the opposition?

Overtaxation will not be accepted !!
How the consumer know imported sugar ana kenyan

Discourage unnecessary imports and encourage local enhancement to bridge the gap.
That's exactly what the govt is doing.
Ruto has ran out of town kenyattas Rai's who used to import sugar

Their must be a price cap on power production in kenya, bila hivyo manufacturing and job creation is DEAD!!
The appointment is like drinking the blood of the dead GENZ.This wil cost your career no action goes without consequences
Why is the electricity so expensive?
There are those who have the old 1000 currency where can they take it for exchange now that money is scarce
You as an accountant, you should use your interlect. 😊
He's just talking with both sides of the mouth
Mbadi is now out to collect more taxes, mfwasi was zakayo. When he met with IMF, I knew it was over.

Why not start with the interventions before increasing taxation on imported sugar?
Can they stop corruption 😢
