    Thanks for the update. Glad see is getting all this attention, looks like a lot of topside/exterior corrosion.

      On the fantail, yes. Originally decked there with galvanized steel. We'll be redecking that entire exterior area aft of Mt 55.

    Love the video. Got turned onto this project while watching New Jersey dry dock and they mentioned Kidd was headed there. Looking forward to more updates.

    The Kidd has been on my bucket list for a long time- I’m really excited that she will be in her WWII configuration when I finally see her (hopefully next summer).

    • @usskidd661
      @usskidd661  4 місяці тому

      Oh, she's been in WWII configuration for years now. 🙂 We're just pushing her a little closer with these last few adjustments. There will still be a couple of anachronisms. For example, we were never able to find the proper WWII QGB systems in Sonar.

    I was just saying the other day I wish i had been able to get the search lights going when I was there. But it was way down on the property list. Glad to see the sewing room deck is going to get repaired. Tim you are doing a fine job as usual.

    Upset that the Firing controls are being taken out

      It's post-war equipment. All of the WWII era fire control equipment in IC-Plot, along with the stable element and Mk-1a fire control computer, are still in place. We're putting her back closer to the way she was in August 1945.

      I see a scupper is operational. What is it doing? Is the ship running her systems on shore power, or does she have her own power supply? Thanks for the great job you are doing!

      I would see if the post war fire control gear could be given to another museum ship rather than "disposing" of it. It misght not be WW2 period, but it is still probably irreplaceable.

      @@dougalexander5871 : Shore power.

      @usskidd661  4 місяці тому

      @tboltaq2 : We already tried that years ago on another project. That's not allowed by NAVSEA regulations. The equipment has to be scrapped.

    Mario most of the statements asked or said are not holding a full hand or a hole in the pocket for marbles to roll, it's amazing how so many make statements or claim fact that are so far from truth, these people could live closer to a solve first honest with themselves

    It's impressive, what you are doing. It took us fifteen years to find all that equipment and weld it in place, and you cut everything off in three weeks! 20mm guns; two came from the Buffalo Park, four from Holldand. Searchlignts; One came from USS TOLAMN DM-28 at Port Hueneme, and one was found by WWII KIDD Sonarman Fred Higgs at an estate sale, and he donated it. MK-51 directors came from Crane Indiana, legend is that they came off the MISSOURI. One the quad forties came from Pearl Harbor, the other from Crane. The Navy put the twins on in Philly, so we never knew where they came from. The torpedo tubes came from CAPERTON (DD-650). Are you going to take those off too?

    • @usskidd661
      @usskidd661  4 місяці тому

      No, the tubes stay on. The CAPERTON's torpedo directors come off for restoration/preservation, though. It's like pushing the reset button back to 1982 and starting all over again. She looks bare. But the goal is that she'll be better when we hand her off to the next generation than she was when we got her from our predecessors. Same as she was better when you passed her on to Jesse Eaves than when you got her in '82. 🙂 We build upon the work previously done.

      I was at the Kidd a couple years ago go and remember touring the Kidd when I was in middle school with my grandfather Fred Higgs. Tim was great and let me in the sonar room to sit where Fred sat during WWII. I’m excited to see this restoration being done, the ship needed it. Thank you all for what you are doing to keep an part of our country’s and my family’s history available to see, tour and learn from.
