I love this effect on a blue note, in minor blues ballads. Like, in this dissonant space opening up between the minor and the blues scale. It has some despair but is not really recieved as crying or moaning, sobbing, whatever. Just adds some tension to the mood, lets the voice break a little.

Am I correct saying that the crying mode can be found at the back of the mouth? I find it more easier to reach notes above C5 when I make them in the crying mode.
Interesting! There must be something about how you're configuring the vocal tract when you add sob that's encouraging that ring. It might be that it has good glottal closure and a strong vibration source signal. It could just be that you have more resonating space. I really don't know. But if it works, then use it to your advantage!
Oh I saw Beyonce added this quality in her voice when she sing live "flaws and all" in the Experience live... Very interesting topic! Thank Karyn!

when does my voice sound flat when I'm not using the sob?😭
Please rephrase your question and I'll do my best to answer it.
when i sing with sob quality my voice has a sort of ring. without the sob it sounds sort of flat.
