As parents, you should be teaching your children not to run up to dogs they don't know so they don't get BIT. Even more so, don't let your kids run up to a working Service Dog. This day was a bad medical day for me. I was having a lot of Pre Syncopes. Syncope = Fainting
I need my dog focused on me, not your kid in his face, so that he can let me know before I faint. It's even more critical because I was 17
weeks Pregnant. Pregnancy directly affects my medical conditions. So I really need my dog focused so I don't get hurt or our unborn baby.
I've had a miscarriage before. The last thing we need is me Fainting and hitting my stomach because someone couldn't mind their kids and keep them from interfering with a working Service Dog.
This isn't about being mean. This isn't a "kids don't know better" because I know that. But the PARENTS should know better. Even if it's just out of fear for their child's safety and not knowing if the dog will bite them.
When Service Dogs are distracted due to the recklessness of others, their owners can be hurt and end up in the hospital. We rely on our dogs to alert us to our medical conditions, to respond during PTSD attacks, and more. They are our Lifeline.

What happened to not letting your kids go up to ANY unknown dog? A random dog could feel threatened and nip the kid, but distracting your dogs could be incredibly dangerous for your safety.

The school I used to go to had someone bring in a service dog and they went to all the classes and to educate us about service dogs.

Once I was in a target store and there was a lady there with a service dog then like 5 children came up and started petting the dogs while the parents were taking pics I told them to stop but do you think they would listen to a 12 yr old then I think the dog missed the signs and the woman fell Down to the ground then they started blaming the dog for not alerting the woman someone called 911 and were fined

I would’ve walked over and honestly shoved the kids away from the dog, once they were a respectful distance away I’d walk away since I’m a kid myself, older then 7 (not saying exact age for safety reasons obviously lol) But like, i know some kids can read! As a service dog handler, I understand the struggle with children running up and just petting my SD. One time a parent even told her kids, "That girl is blind, you can go pet the doggy." (I'm not blind)

I've always taught my children to never bother a service dog. They can look real quick cause that's what children will do but I do not allow them to talk to the service dog or go near it. It's called respect. More people need to learn it.

@@ServiceDogPaws I know this very well because I'm having the same issues with a dog in my apartment complex trying to harass my own service dog. So I'm getting ready to write a nice little letter to my neighbor. I also have a caregiver Dominique who has to take my service dog outside to relieve herself. Because I do have the same conditions as you but I also have a lesion on my spinal cord and I'm paralyzed from the waist down.

I had a person yesterday trying to talk baby talk to him and I had to warn them that if my service dog misses an alert it could mean fines or jail time and then this person goes to a manager and tells them that I have a vicious dog in the store. I had to laugh because I knew the managers.

My mum always told me, "If you see a dog with a vest on in public, don't touch it or even look at it. It's working and if you distract it, it's owner might die." It's a bit morbid to say to a 6 year old, but it worked well. I hate when people do this. I'm going to get a service dog soon for my deafness because I can't hear noises like telephones, smoke alarms, and school bells so a service dog could literally save my life in the event of a fire.

I remember I once went to the mall and there was a man with his service dog their, and all of a sudden these two 4 year olds start running up to his dog and start saying “PUPPY!!!”, “HI PUPPY!!”. While the parents were in the background just staring at their children as they continued to bother the man and his dog. The dog thankfully didn’t get of track with his duty’s and the owner asked the 4 years olds to go back to their parents. This is JUST AN EXAMPLE OF WHAT BAD PARENTING IS!
I remember when I was younger , I saw a SD and I told my mum , I asked her ‘ can I pat the dog ? ‘ she said ‘ no , if you ever see a dog with a vest on it , don’t touch it at all ‘ take note that I was about 6 or something , and I absolutely love dogs in general .

Yesterday I went to a thrift store with my SD and two kids were running around pointing fake guns at my dog and screaming “your going to die” as well as other similar things. It was really annoying

Service dogs can get very distracted from their job by the tiniest of things. Not only is that bad for the job but it’s also a form of animal abuse.
Ugh. Kids can be insanely annoying🙄 shame on the parents not for not caring about that kind of thing. If I was in that situation, I would have just told the kids or the parents that “my dog is a service dog. They save lives sometimes and must not be distracted. They need to be serious.” And boiiii if I was near the parents. I would have slapped some since into her. That sucks. So sorry it happened to you.

Hi.. I'm just curious...I understand that we can't interact with the SD but why can't we stare or look at the SD? is it like we giving them the attention or something like that?
Sort of. So eye contact is big in dog communication. Most dogs if you just stare at them will be thrown off by it. When two dogs approach each other, it's normal for them to avert their eyes. A direct stare makes them feel uncomfortable, and an uncomfortable dog is an unpredictable dog. Obviously Service Dogs are trained to be predictable and calm. But it can still make them very uncomfortable. Hence, distracted. Dog's also use eye contact to express emotions, both positive and negative. In their wolf ancestors, staring is considered threatening and rude. Some dogs still retain that attitude. That’s why you should never stare down strange dogs or hold dogs still to stare into their eyes. In untrained dogs it can cause aggression. In ServiceDogs it can cause a distraction from them feeling uncomfortable.
Dogs don't stare at each other or go face to face when meeting. If some dogs ever "greet" each other face-to-face, it's a threat and I recommend separating those dogs.
I never look because If I was in there shoes I wouldnt want people starring because I have a SD.

One. The younger one is in training and learning from the older dog. It's an old training technique.
I’m 9 and my parents ask something like: “Hi! Is it ok if my daughter pets your dog?” If they say yea, I pet them. For service dogs I stay away from them.

I have a 3yr old stubborn boy, it's really not that hard to tell them that the puppy is working and move on. Shouldn't go up and pet ANY dog that you are not familiar with, especially children.
I agree kids are very intelligent and understanding more than we give them credit at times. But, I just read that as you should not pet any service dog your not familiar with especially children. then got confused after misreading & thought you should not pet children and thought wait... children are service dogs since when perhaps there in a dog onesie.. My inability too properly read and comprehend the simple & correctly written sentence was more hilarious and took me longer to realise my mistake and leave the thought tangent than I care to admit.

I feel like fake service dogs are making this accure even more often. When people with fake service dogs enter a store they probably love all the attention they get, so people don't understand that if a service dog is real, distracting it can be life threatening, or even just another inconvenience the handler shouldnt have to deal with every time they leave the house
It is also the owners choice of their dog can be pet or not.
My last SD enjoyed it, and it gave me a chance to educate the past 6 years- as I thought I was the only SD pair around....
Turns out there are alot of us locally that were afraid to go in public cuz ppls reactions.
After I got my town educated(I had to be tough and willing to dish out anything they were willing to throw at us) we started seeing more pairs...
It was great.
Now my SD doesn't want to be pet, as she's new...
She gets distracted easier than the old man, who would alert even with a gaggle of kids loving on him.
So it depends on the owner and the dog.
Mine doesn't like being pet, she just tolerates it from non family when I tell her to.
So I have patches to warn, and the very thing I taught ppl was to look at the patches, and if unsure how to move around the pair- ask.

i used to work at a bakery and someone brought a dog (looked no older than 1yr but was still kind of big) and when we told them dogs aren’t allowed they started saying it was a service dog even thought it had no vest or leash on. then they placed the dog on the floor and it started jumping on the owner and her family like what the hell...
The ONLY time you ever interact with someone else’s service dog is if the dog comes to you and tries to get your attention. FOLLOW THE DOG. It is seeking help for its owner.

I do not once say a thing to the children. I have a 4 year old son. I'm 18 weeks pregnant with our second little boy. I understand babies.
I only ever spoke the adults. The irresponsible parents, who could not keep their BABIES away from dogs they know nothing about for one. For two, a dog that IS LABELED in a service animal only store. A dog that I rely on for MY safety. For the safety of my unborn BABY.
Never once did I speak to the children. Never was I upset with the children
I'm only upset with naive, irresponsible parents who can't use a little common sense.
Regardless, it's illegal to interfere with a working Service Animal. My life is literally in my dogs paws. I can't afford some parent with no common sense Walking their child over, setting their child down in front of me, and watching as their child comes up to me and my dog.
What happened to parents caring about their child's safety and not allowing their children to go up to a random dog in case the dog bites??

I was simply making the suggestion of more clearly labeling your dogs, may help you experience less confrontation and anxiety that some of these experiences may cause you. An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure (I think that's how the saying goes) Dealing with people personally causes me allot of anxiety, so in my experience it has helped to be proactive. I understand all of the laws unfortunately most don't. And I wasn't suggesting you were inappropriate in how you react to kids at all.

A girl in my school had PTSD as she was sexually molested years ago. She's a nice girl and I help her out a lot, she also has a service dog (now in my country there aren't specific laws about service animals in my country except nobody can stop them from entering any public or private place) but god I hate the fact that people just come up to her to pet her damn dog that too without her permission. He's a good boy and a fluffy one but that is absolutely no excuse for disturbing him from his duty

Personally my mom took the liberty to teach me at a young age not to touch or talk to any dogs. Just a reminder that some service dogs do NOT wear vests. It’s easier to just not make contact with any dogs unless it’s one that you know :D
Why do parents do this? Ever since I was little I was taught by my parents to not pet service dogs because they’re working animals.

Maybe these individuals have never been told. There was a time in your life that you did not know. Now you do. There are things you are ignorant on now that you will learn in the future, then you will know. Everyone is at a different stage in learning on different topics. As we all need grace, we should all show grace.

Anytime I see a service animal out, I make a point to talk to their owner, not them - they're generally amused by my dragon puppet that I use as a coping mechanism.

To be fair, they don't look like service dogs, they aren't in formal harnesses with signs, and their owner is not blind or otherwise outwardly disabled, so of course people are going to treat her dogs like any other.

My middle school had this too! They trained service dogs and taught us to leave them alone. In my high school there's a girl with a service dog and not once has anyone every touched or stared at the dog.
They didn't teach it at my school, but I once had a sub who was almost completely blind, so he needed a service animal. As soon as he entered the room, we were instantly told to not even look at the dog, so that's how I learned about service animals. Also the sub had amazing hearing (to the point where I could tell when he heard even a slight creek in the building) and he could tell whenever people were looking at him or not

I love watching channels like these with service dogs. I’m gonna see if I’m eligible for a service animal since I have PTSD, and anxiety and the anxiety is worse then my ptsd, but they do cause more problems for me. Congrats on your baby, and I’m definitely subscribing!
I have to same medical alert thing with the heartbeat thats on Max's vest. I love it!!! I have it on my dogs leash so when I take him out at home, people still know he's working
Unfortunately I too have experienced this in a grocery store, except the child was all alone(Couldn't see mom around) and he saw my service animal and came right up to us and started petting him. I asked him to stop but he didn't and eventually just walked off. This was while a employee was just standing there, ignoring my ask for help. Please please teach your kids not to come up to service dogs, if he was an alert dog so many bad things could have happened. Side note: He was fully vested and had patches on him in BOTH spanish and English that say service dog; do not pet

That specific store, as I have come to find out, has horrible customer service. Twice I have had near mental breakdowns due to being ignored, mistreated, etc. (I have PTSD that makes me basically think everyone is going to hurt me)

To be honest I'm still trying to get better at not even smiling at service dogs, especially when they look up at me. Sometimes their warm hearts melt my soul and i cant help but smile. I used to, when i was a teen and younger, say things like cute doggo as i walked past, and the owner would always just say a quick thanks. I lived in an Arabian country until highschool so i used to be COMPLETELY ignorant about even disabilities and service dogs. I'm getting better at not even approaching to ask questions even if I'm curious since I'm thinking of getting a service dog for my severe Depression and anxiety episodes i get. But honestly if an ignorant foreigner was able to educate herself quick on these matters, so can parents who've lived in the US their whole lives!
I honestly thought service dogs were for physical disabilities only. I would love a service dog for my mental illnesses. I have BPD, Bipolar, Depression, PTSD, And ADHD (just to name a few...) and most of these I’ve been battling my whole life. Perhaps I can speak with my therapist about the possibility of getting one
Aquarius Amethyst which is the typical mindset of people towards them. But they are used for many things like a seizure alert 🚨 dog, or food allergies or many different non physical disabilities. Because seizures aren’t a physical disability, they are classified as a neurological disability.
corinthian123 Oh, I always thought those were physical. But I meant I didn’t know they could be used for mental disorders. I know about dogs for seizures, diabetes, blood pressure, etc. But a dog that can help alleviate my mental health symptoms? I had no idea lol. It would be nice to have a service dog to mostly help me with my anxiety, depression, and ADHD because those are the ones I’ve been dealing with my whole life. The other ones developed during my early adolescence years

Again even in a public places there are laws which again your uneducated brain does not compute. The parent was interacting and distracting a service dog which includes openly stairing which can draw the dogs attention from the disabled owner.
Any interaction and distraction of a service dog is actually a misdemeanor.

I don’t get why people think it’s okay to just sit and stare at a service dog, it’s just like staring at someone with a wheelchair. And anyway it’s a dog not like you haven’t seen one before.
I remember going to the mall as a kid and I got lost. I saw someone with a service dog and came up to them, asking if I can pet the dog. They calmly explained why I shouldn’t pet the dog. I was confused, but I understood that I couldn’t pat the pupper. The person helped me back to the front of the store and waited there with me until my mom showed up.
Ever since then, I’ve always been vigilant towards people with service dogs, and make sure not to bother them.
It was a good experience, and I’m glad it played out the way it did.

Some people are way to over dramatic. And all these self righteous “I don’t bother service animals”. If a kid smiling at your dog for 5 seconds will lead to your death, you should not be going outside
The parent encouraged the kids the interaction with a service dog for a chronically ill woman that needed that dog focused on HER.

You never interact in anyway with a service dog. The moment you draw the service Dogs attention away it can miss an alert to something like a seizure , possible heart attack, blood pressure dropping or blood sugar rising and falling and that could hurt or kill an disabled owner.
It's also illegal under the ADA which states:
No person shall interfere with the use of a service dog by obstructing, stairing, touching, speaking, intimidating, or otherwise jeopardizing the safety of the user or animal. Whoever violates this subsection shall be guilty of a class B misdemeanor.
If an individual continues in the action of interacting and or distracting the service dog leading to the missed alert and injury of the disabled handler (owner ) the person would be guilty of attempted manslaugther.
If your kid can't control themselves in public, they shouldn't be outside
How did so many people miss the whole don’t distract a service dog while they’re working? Did all these people never get told by anyone not to touch and distract them because it could lead to a potentially dangerous situation for the owner?
i did not know almost anything about service animals until a few years ago just where i live we dont seem it much if at all and where i am from people bring there pets everywhere and no one really cares.
I watched a movie about service dogs when I was tiny. They filmed a service dog and their owner that went to the zoo. The girl filming asked the owner why they can they the animals, and she said (nearly direct quote) “if somebody pets them they drag me into walls and stuff”. I can’t believe nobody knew this, I thought people taught their kids to ask the owner it they were fine with petting their dog.

Yo these dogs had no survice dog vests on the people in the store Probibly thought these where regular dogs, this was the owners fualt for not giving clear indication these where working medical dogs, you can look at regular dogs so you shoudnt expect someone to not look at a dog if it has no survice dog vest.

I'm new to your channel but I've seen many service dogs and I love to learn about how to act around them and this is amazing for me.
I have a condition where I will pass out when I feel stressed and my beautiful service dog was alerted to me but a drunk old man grabbed my dog and said that if I’m not blind I don’t need him, then because i was in a stressful situation I passed out and the man started shaking me and yelling at me while I was passed out… it was horrible my dog even got a leg injury from the man who fell on him[i don’t know how the man fell on my dog I was passed out but my cousin and grandpa were there] . I thankfully pressed charges and because I have an expensive dog breed the man had to pay 4,000$ in medical attention for my dog/he’s a Bernese mountain dog and I love him very much, his name is moby 🥰 this was 1 year ago and we’re doing fine now. 😊
I was always told as a child “if you see a SD, don’t pat it, it’s working to help someone and doesn’t need you to distract it.” Why can’t more parents be like that? It’s so simple. If a paramedic was working, would you go over and talk to it for stuff not about the emergency? no.

I was never told that as a child but I recognize that the dogs belong to somebody and if you want to pet them then you ask their owner. Because some dogs are service/medical alert dogs but some dogs haven't got out of biting and some dogs are really anxious.

This is so frustrating to see yesterday we had a kid get in my SDiT face and yell something and it really annoyed me and it took a bit for her to focus since the kid was running around the store with other kids with no parents. Luckily mine is for mental health reasons so her being distracted isn't a big issue but still. I let kids that are being respectful but interested pet just because she is a big dog and see too many kids scared of large breeds.
It's still a big deal. Don't think that your disabilities are any less than someone else's. You still need your dog focused. And still deserve that same respect as any other Service Dog team

Whenever I see someone with a service dog I smile and tell my partner so he knows to keep our daughter at bay so she doesnt run up to them, I used to have a service dog but unfortunately I had to put her dog a few weeks ago and in working on getting another one. Whenever I'm alone without my daughter or partner I worry that I will have a seizure or any other things like that bc of my medical issues. I normally tell the handler that they have very hard working buddies and go on my way ♥️♥️

We were in Costco (this happened before COVID-19) and this lady brought her child two feet away from My mom medical/mobility dog and pointed in my dog’s face. She was in a down stay by my moms side and didn’t even look at the woman. Also I love your videos! 💗
My mom taught me from a young age to not approach strange dogs and always ask the owners to pet them. She also taught me to leave service dogs alone since they are working.
The pups is doing so well!!!! It seems like the older dog is sorta teaching the puppy some skills . Love it! I will be getting my first SDiT very soon.
Being service dogs this is even more important, because a service dog distracted could miss an alert. But when I was a kid I was taught not to go up to other people's dogs. I taught my kids the same.
What is wrong with parents today? Were mine one of the few left that taught that you never interact with any animal unless you have the owner's expressed permission? The most I ever with any service animal is glance at it, compliment the owner or handler and then go about my day. It's just a common courtesy and common sense.
My parents would tell me they would attack me if I got close to them, they were just saying this to scare me so I wouldn’t bother them, it’s an odd strategy but at least it works-
Im was born in wallasey Merseyside, the next street to where the first ever service dogs were trained so guide dogs have a very very special place in my heart.
Once when I was like 7 I was with my brother who was 5 and he stared at a service dog who was in training and I told him "Don't stare their at work" The man who was with the service dog smiled at me when he heard on what I said to my brother.
If my kid ever did that, i'd apologize a million times then tell my kid what service dogs are for and not to bother them 😂
I agree, my son has autism and adhd and we have to repeat ourselves over and over to him till he can understand. He doesn't know better and loves to pet animals but we always tell him no to becareful cause you'll never know when a dog can turn on you and bite. If someone gives us the ok we teach him how to gently pet a dog holding his hand. My mother always told me never leave your kids unattended with a dog no matter how friendly they can be. We always have to keep eyes on my son because he doesn't know his surroundings. I just usually compliment keeping it very short and walk off or I just keep going lol. Im a huge animal lover. Ive met a service dog before and he was so sweet and adorable. He thought I was having a heart attack or that something was happening to me cause I had put my head down on the table and the owners told him I was ok that its ok. He was such a well trained dog very smart.

People do this stuff so often I usually just say “she’s a service animal and is here to prevent my death :)”, may be somewhat aggressive but it does the job to get them to take it seriously (I got ptsd so not actual death, it’s just to get them to understand)
As a little kid i loved all dogs and service dogs. I was tought to ASK before coming up to the dog or petting it. Most parents should do the same. -kid on the internet
I recently started watching your videos and I didn’t know you couldn’t like really go up to it and say “ aw he’s cute “ or something because it can distract him... so I was working yesterday and I seen somebody in the store with a service dog passing by me and I turned around and say “ aw “ but then I turned back around because I remembered from your videos that if you go up to it or try saying something to them it will distracting them so I just left it like that and continue working :) your videos are working ❤️

I feel like no matter is service dog or not service dog . As a parent you should not allow your children randomly pet people dog without their permission. Same concept as when the items not belonging to you, do not touch !!! Why this concept nobody getting it? I don’t understand. That why I teach my children DO NOT touch randomly, include items, pets...etc.

My favorite thing (back when i could actually go to stores and just have fun shopping) was to pass a service dog and just comment to the handler that the dog is adorable and make no move to ever touch the dog, also dont gawk at it. the handlers (most of the time) get an adorable genuinely happy smile on their face.
Ive never heard about "don't go up to service dogs" because I was never educated about them, I run up to any dog I see because.. little fur friend! But I'm so glad I saw this video before I can run up to any service dogs and distract them from doing their job! Thank you!

If you ask someone to touch their service dog, they’ll most likely say no, the dog is working, and you never know when something is going to happen. Don’t expect SD owners to say yes, they might thank you for asking, but the SD is still working.

I'm so sorry this happened to you! :( Parents need to teach their kid(s) respect towards others, ESPECIALLY people with service animals!
Firstly I just joined your channel and I read on another vlog that you are away from that very monstrous ex-Husband and I applaud you for your courage to get away, however you did it, you were brave enough. I had an ex that was very abusive when I developed two autoimmune diseases. Your now hubby looks like a very kind man. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t know that when a service dog is in uniform you are not to distract them. It is up to parents to teach their kids. I understand your frustration, but I’m glad you speak up to alert them to this rule. Good luck to you and your family and good luck with your pregnancy
I completely agree with this, but could it be that they genuinely didnt know? Max does have a harness on, but its not majorly noticeable to what it actually says, and since there is a puppy too with no harness, people may not even notice. Having said that, I do agree that parents shouldn't allow their kids to run up to ANY dog regardless.
Legally they are not required to have any indetfying marks that state they are a service dog.
One time when I was 5 I asked my mom to pet a service dog and she told me I can never pet a dog in a store and a dog with a vest and the lady said thank you to my mom and I never forgot that day
She’s doing incredibly well considering she’s a puppy, most of the adult dogs in my village don’t sit on command which I think is ridiculous
Free Deer All in the training. We got a puppy at 8 weeks old as a pet, but training started the day he was given to me as a Christmas present. He knew what “sit”. meant by the end of the first day. Very smart boy. Collie/Keeshond. cross. Worked with him every day.

God I’m so sorry you have to deal with these types of things. I love seeing service dogs when I’m walking around but I’d never run up to one and try to pet them without the owner’s permission. I usually just give a quick glance and mumble a “Cute puppy” to myself, cause I love dogs. Also both your pups are adorable
One time I was at walmart with my mom and little sister, saw a lady with a dog and said "omg it's so cute" and then i saw the "in training" vest and immediately apologized to the lady that was training the dog because I distracted it before I could see the vest
this is why my mom and dad tought me at a young age to respect servese dogs and ask people with dogs if there servise BEFORE i pet and/or stair at it (i luv mah mom and dad)
I’m so grateful that growing up in my elementary school a kid had a service dog for his diabetes and we were all able to be properly educated on service dogs :)

When i was a kid (like six) i went up to a random persons dog and pet it while me and my family were on a walk. They were friendly and the dog was sweet but after they left my aunt told me to never go up to random dogs and pet them cause it could be rude or dangerous. Never did it again. Its really that easy. Not all dogs are cute puppies for the world to pet. These people should know this.

wow.. this is actually very educational. I've seen a service dog on the train once but of course I didn't go up to it I just glanced at it and proceeded to do my other things. I'm sure a lot of people don't know this so I will definitely share this to others too
