By far the best test yet - very clarifying for me. The flicker issues are prevalent but only when you're actively looking for them - I think this issue is a bit overblown. Otherwise the IQ is beautiful, detailed without excessive sharpening or moire, great highlight rolloffs and detail is preserved well at higher ISOs.
@@minktronics H265 might look cleaner but I prefer the texture and noise pattern of N-Raw. It looks very organic if exposed properly, almost like film grain. It's hard to tell with UA-cam compression but you can check our blog for the still images. The link is in the description.
Thank you. The shots were mostly zooms, Nikon 28-75, and 70-180, which are rebranded Tamron lenses. There were a couple of shots with primes-28 2.8, 40 2, and 50 1.8.
Yep, nice test. Something that I missed, the sport plus e stabilisation is very very good. Might even say as good as gimbal. I saw perhaps 1-2 little jump, but perhaps they should tweak the algo a little bit or crop a little bit more.
I was interested in the comparison between the 6k n-raw and h265 and prores which max out at 5.4k instead of 6k. The n-raw was a lot better in the comparison but I wonder if the difference was partially as a result of the resolution difference? Since the advantage of 6k n-raw also held over prores, I think it's the in camera processing more than the h265 compression causing the degradation. I would be so interested to see a comparison of 8k n-raw from the z8 to 8k 4:2:2 500mbps with the Sony a1 to see if Sony's processing is any better.
@@cinematools I believe the n-raw full width in 4k is line skipped or pixel binned, so if it's sharper than h265 uhd oversampled, that would be really interesting.

The 800 base iso with n-log was bothering me in my tests because I could see noise in the blacks. So I shot PR Raw in SDR at 100 iso and then switched the footage to n-log after importing into FCP. It looked the same but without the noise. Is that a sensible workaround or am I missing something?
Overexposing the sensor helps a lot. I don't use view assist because it's terrible; I tend to look at the waveform in N-Log. Also, you can film in N-Log at ISO 200. It redistributes the dynamic range differently but should be cleaner.

Thanks for watching. I'm unfamiliar with Final Cut color management, but the LUTs are created for REC2020/N-Log gamma input and the output is Rec709 color space. The timeline/display setting should be Rec709 (SDR). Let me know if you have other questions.

How do you judge exposure? The view assist curve is pretty steep, so if you use that to set your exposure, there's a high chance you'll underexpose. I recommend using waveforms and zebras without view assist.

Yes, we were able to reproduce the flickering issue and unfortunately, it's there but we haven't seen it in any real-world tests.

Yes, you can use an external recorder with it. I am not sure if Atomos supports nvme but SSD speeds should be enough for 6k 60
