ReDriver2 is the reflection of actual love and proper care put onto something we once loved dearly. It puts the GTA Trilogy Demasters to shame, let me tell you.
Bilinear interpolation, increased vertex precision and some kind of dynamic shadow system would elevate this game to a whole new level, without necesarily slowing it down on decent systems.
Hard to think it's been a whole year since REDRIVER 2 released publically and how much coverage it got across the web but then again when you do a remaster correctly and improve the game whilst keeping the original release in tact this is the result. The coverage made by yourself definitely emphasises how great the game is as a whole plus there was the matter of beta content being readded, mod packs for missions and even a co-op style mode being possible for the main game too :D I haven't done a speedrun of this game for a while but it definitely put some life back into the game when this released and thanks to the findings of several community members including The_Surviv0r and Red_Ricky it really brought the game into it's own away from the standard PS1 release. One of the things I've been wondering (Don't know if it's possible or worth it) is a REDRIVER port for the original Driver game as I recall that having framerate problems of it's own and would be really cool to see that get it's own remaster of some sorts (Personally a REDRIVER port of the original game would be better than the PC version that originally got released as the physics worked better in the PS1 version compared to PC IMO) Awesome video and long live the Driver community! :D

AI needs overhaul, Also collisions on objects and buildings should be redone to eliminate vehicles getting stuck when brushing against a tree, building, wall etc. Some plant objects should also benefit by being made destructable like benches and stop signs. Overall, way better than original.
Option to lock fps to 24 frames for movie would be great tho. I rock solid 24 fps with no slow downs unlike og game fluctuating between 12 to 24ish fps.

I kept mentioning this game, I always told my friends about it, but I'm 43 and most of my friends don't know games at all ;) I tried Driver on the emulator but it was a nightmare, now with Redriver 2 I can feel these emotions again and the game is great, the only thing I forgot over the years is the terrible movement of the character, I don't know why they implemented it in the game, it's a real nightmare ;) Thank you to everyone who contributed to the creation of Redriver2
Onfoot was added to allow the players to change cars during gameplay, which is important to enlarge the possibilities IMO. That's why Shift was used in DSF, same purpose, different execution! Also, Tanner in Driver 2 is actually considered as a "car" by the game with an invisible car at his center, this could explain why he has "tank" controls too.
I always wanted to see driver 2 gameplay from how the graphics of the cutscenes are as in porting it into unreal engine or any good engine and redoing everything from the ground up model wise, I understand it would be time consuming redoing a classic but I think it would be worth it. Playing it as a kid comparing the cutscenes to the actual gameplay made me wish that they would remaster it to have that type of detail and style while keeping the quirks and mechanics of the original.
Shame I don’t have the PS1 disk anymore so I can’t play Redriver 2. Must be a legal loophole that the game is out of print, a free release etc so more can play it
so much fucking memories ........ >_< ......... the nostalgia ..... i remember playing this game .. in my childhood .. you people newly played this, I played this back then for PlayStation 1 with the two discs it came with, original case, clear plastic square one with the booklet on the left when you opened the case ...... those days are gone and I remember this cutscene vividly till this day, and my top favorite song was and became the credits one "just dropped in" - Kenny rogers - driver 2 ... wish you all the best ...
I've also played Driver 2 when it released in 2000 on original PS1... and never stopped since then REDRIVER 2 is the best way to play it in 2024: no loading, better rendering distance, better performance (stable 30 FPS) & no aliasing

I wonder why the draw distance is still kinda low. With today PCs they could probably make it almost infinite, so that you'd never see a building pop up ever?

I don't know if you are part of the development or know the people there but... why don't you try to make a remake of Driver 2 using Driver Syndicate engine or other more modern engine? with high definition graphics and modeling, more realistic city lighting, weather changes and such...
There are various modders in the Driver Madness discord (and outside I'm sure, as well), but projects like the one you mention require a lot of effort and focus. There's been projects re-creating D2 (and D1) cities but each comes with its own set of troubles, for instance, you can't do curved roads in Syndicate, leading to 90 degree turns only like in the original Driver. I can't speak on behalf of folks like Soapy, or everybody else, but I imagine working closely with the originals offers its own set of unique possibilities, like ReDriver2. Instead of a remake that might lead to a different experience, it's the original as you might remember, but enhanced. I imagine Open Driver will only expand on this notion.
ReDRIV3R would be much harder to make and also less needed than Driver 2 which was in a very bad state on PS1 without any PC version... I guess the other Reflections game I would like to get "RE" is Stuntman... Only on PS2 and bad performances
Redriver2 was made possible because someone left behind the debug symbols of the game in the Italian version that makes it easier to reverse engineer the game code. The RE in the REdriver2 stands for Reverse Engineer(ed) Redriv3r might not be possible if someone did not do the same "mistake" of including the debug symbols.
I just tried and brakes are the same button than reverse so as long as you're braking they are on but after that, they go white to reverse. And if you use handbrake, it will not stay red if you're not moving But there are turn signals
@@VortexStory Thats a bummber. I remember I used to stop on that one sloped road in Havana because you could hold both the brakes and the lights would stay on but you could only do it on that hill lol

I think it does, mainly because the controls are much more reactive thanks to the smooth framerate!

I grew up in the 90s , the driver games was some of the best games I had played , I thought the graphics were the best 😂.
