Chuck Carroll is truly “The Weight Loss Champion” and host of the wildly popular podcast, The Exam Room™.
At his heaviest, Chuck weighed 420 pounds and had amassed a 66-inch waist while requiring a size 6xl shirt. At just 5-foot-6, his tiny frame struggled to support his enormous figure.
A severe food addiction continued to fuel an unhealthy lifestyle as his waist expanded at such a pace that soon it would outgrow even the big and tall catalog. Yet, he convinced himself that he needed to continue down that path to remain a personality on radio station BIG 100.3 (WBIG-FM) in Washington, DC.
Still, there were times when, like millions of others battling the bulge, he tried and failed to lose weight. He was even paid to endorse fad diets on the radio. But despite the paychecks, like every other attempt, the success he achieved was short-lived as the weight came pouring back on and then some. The money he was paid for schilling the cookies quickly evaporated at the nearest drive thru.
Fearing that his life was spiraling out of control and nearing an end, he opted to undergo weight loss surgery. Prior to the procedure he was convinced that the drastic measure would become like all the other failed attempts to lose weight. At least, he thought, he could go to his grave confident that he tried everything.
Chuck was just 27 years old at the time and didn’t think he would live to see 30.
Although a critical component, the surgery proved only to be the first step in his journey. In fact, he only attributes 10 percent of his weight loss success to the procedure.
In just over a year, Chuck shed 265 pounds by conquering food addiction and devoting himself to a healthier lifestyle. He’s now maintaining the weight loss by eating a plant-based diet. Going vegan once seemed unthinkable to Chuck, but now it’s going back to eating processed meat and dairy that would be inconceivable.
The confidence he gained from the weight loss enabled him to pursue his dream of becoming a sports reporter. He has hosted several radio shows with NFL players. One of the players gave him the nickname of “The Weight Loss Champion” after news of his transformation spread through the locker room.
Shortly thereafter, Chuck’s career took a twist when he became a reporter for the all-news CBS station in Washington, DC. From there, he went on to anchor national newscasts at NBC News Radio. Despite the success, he felt something was still missing in his professional life. He wanted to give back and inspire others to follow in his footsteps and take back control of their health.
His journey took another twist in 2017 when he adopted a plant-based diet at the urging of WWE Superstar Austin Aries which kicked his health into overdrive! His evolving eating habits enabled him to shed the 15 pounds of excess weight that had stubbornly been holding on for dear life.
His astonishing weight loss total now stands at 280 pounds!
Inspired by an increasingly healthy lifestyle, he teamed up with PCRM to host The Exam Room™ podcast. Since its launch, the show has reached No. 1 in 79 countries among all podcasts in the nutrition genre, according to podcast rankings service Chartable. Millions of listeners, whom Chuck happily calls “Exam Roomies,” have tuned in from more than 130 countries around the world.

I've heard Chuck Carroll talk about his journey so many times but every time I see an interview with him I have to watch because it's one of the most inspirational stories I've ever heard. He is a joy to listen to and the way he talks about plant based eating and how delicious and simple it is is so wonderful. He's an amazing ambassador for what a healthy life can be. Thanks Chuck for all your work. Shell X

Fab interview Dr Laurie. Chuck is a hero in my eyes. He is consistent in his message and his personal story just amazing & inspirational. The Exam Room podcast is top class. Never miss it and I place your podcast, Dr Laurie, right there beside it in importance. I loved his ‘beans, greens and grains’ self-mantra. Ha ha I’m using that from today. Thank you 🙏

Thank you for sharing your story. First time hearing it, been listening to you for 3 years. I am WFPB and finally am free of 30-years of clinical depression---I attribute it from not eating sugar and processed food. I had no idea I could be a positive kind person. Thank you for your service to our community Chuck and Laurie!

I have heard Chuck relay his weight loss journey a few times now and I always gain some new ideas or thoughts of how to live the WFPB lifestyle. As for asking Chuck what he eats every, that information shared is so vital and so real in helping others. I just get a little annoyed that hosts feel uncomfortable when they ask their guest to share this. Chuck’s sharing of what he eats makes it so real for the rest of us who have weight struggles. Chuck, you’re inspiring!

wow, this is the 1st time I have heard his story. Listening to him on the plane and the girlfriend broke my heart. I am glad he has found true love and plant based. I have just discovered plant based 9 months ago. But I struggle with the sugar, so i love the idea of pb and the dates. Nice to hear what he eats in a day, similar to what I do, but I eat more fruit. I am Type 2, hoping to reverse that by my 1 yr mark in March.

Thank you so much for this video. I'm just starting my path of WFPB. I have 75 to 100 pounds to lose. Lots and lots of health challenges. I'm a stage 3 inflammatory breast survivor too. I've been unable to lose to weight on keto and weight watchers. I am LITERALLY afraid to be hopeful about the possibility of losing weight, let alone making it to a healthy BMI. I've been binging on youtube videos. I hate doing my pill trays! I can't wait to start eliminating some of those pills. This is the first time I've heard the excess skin issue addressed. Thank you again!

My husband retired and we have to change our health insurance to Atena. I need to look for a plant based doctor in Bakersfield, CA. Is there a list or place where I can look?
