Well done. Like the chip tray. I was considering something like that once I get a plasma cutter. Would let me cut most of the bend lines and leave some tabs that would bend easily then weld all of it. Good stuff.

I wonder if it is a good idea to fill up the column with concrete mix?

How did you figure the dimensions and cut line for the chip tub? Want make a tub like yours. Meant chip tray

Download and learn how to use fusion 360. It's free for hobbiests and has a sheet metal function. It'll give you the dimensions taking into account the bend radius etc.

@@SeabassEngineering OK, cool. I use fusion 360. I haven't played with the sheet metal function yet.

What sort of counter balancing system are you using for the Z axis? Is it a pulley and weight or a self contained pneumatic ram?

I hope you will be annealing the column after welding? Otherwise, all geometry will float ...

Awesome work. How many hours would you say you have in the CAD design only? 50? 100? Are you a mechanical engineer in your dayjob?

I wouldn't like to say how many hours are in it to be honest. Quite a lot but it's fun ;-) This is just a hobby, but I have quite a few years experience.

Looks like you have quite a bit of experience manufacturing. I trust a design from someone who knows how to make it. Any chance it's available to download somewhere?
By the way, great job so far.

Hi thanks for the comment. I may make the CAD files available down the line if the machine works as intended. Wouldn't want someone to copy something that doesn't work until it's proven!

@@SeabassEngineering You make a valid point. Can't wait to see how it turns out!

I'd be interested in the cad files for this.

Hey man, amazing work! I’m struggling with frame design for a desktop CNC do you have any recommendations for literature I can read? Looking at understanding stiffness and precision of various joining methods like welding or bolting, among other things

Sorry not really, I mostly eyeballed and over engineered it to be honest

Do you have solidWorks file for your machine? Thanks

Hi, I'm considering making the files available in future after the design is proven.
