    I see the snow is all melted there. I am used to them only showing the Alps during Ski season on travel documentaries. Absolutely beautiful over there!

    Hi Stefan, great videos as always! What sort of timeframe would you expect to transition from a 2 seater trainer club glider to a fabulous machine such as yours? Speaking as someone who could one day invest in one. Many thanks and keep up the good work 👍

    How much G-force do you experience when circling up a thermal? (I suspect aerobatics will be cause much higher G-forces then thermaling?) And what is the max G-force loading on a typical glider?

    • @michaelderflinger5002
      @michaelderflinger5002 4 роки тому +1

      All modern gliders (Aerobatic in brackets) must withstand a G-loading of +5.3/-2.65 (+7/-5) with a factor of safety of 1.5 [see EASA sailplane rulebook, page 84 and following].
      During thermaling in a 45° bank circle (which is pretty typical) one would expierience a G-load of 1.41 (Sq.root of 2) due to circling aditionally you feel the bumps from turbulent air.

  • @CalebNorthNorman
    @CalebNorthNorman 4 роки тому +2

    Wow! I think I understand why bugs on the leading edge can slow you down or change airflow over the wing, but How high an attitude do bugs fly up to?

    •  4 роки тому +3

      Bugs don't fly up per se but carried up by thermals so they can get to cloud base.

    Why did the bugwiper behave so weirdly?? Flying too fast?

    • @paperclip7003
      @paperclip7003 3 роки тому

      Air turbulence that made the wing swing up and down a little and that vibration of the wing made the bugwiper lose connection and then behave like that.

    Ya know Stefan? ..My Instructor would always tell me Ask yourself over and over again .. , "if I lost all lift now, where would I go?" ..So, a field a road, maybe an airport // A number of times I have watched your flights and thought .. Stefan must not ask himself that question .. .. Dude! You got way bigger ones than me !!

    • @michaelderflinger5002
      @michaelderflinger5002 4 роки тому

      Thats has nothing to do with ball size, i think. He is confident that he can work thermals under stress and pull off outlandings.
      For me it is always astonishing how high the difference of these high performance gliders to Club Class is.
      Second thats the minimum safty requirement your instructor told you. If you are not obeying, you put yourself in an life threatening situation.

    Well would it be possible to glide over the Atlantic? I mean using clouds it might work. Of course it’s not safe at all and if you miss one thermal you’re in the middle of the ocean but theoretically it should be possible. Or not?

    • @mumblecake251
      @mumblecake251 4 роки тому

      There is basically no lift above water. You need stuff to heat up for thermals to form. The ocean is simply gobbling the heat up

      @@waynerussell6401 and there are also studies to use automated (cargo) glider drones which use the jet stream for dynamic soaring, like Albatross are doing...
