    Sis this is an outstanding lens and food photography breakdown. I watch a lot of Photography reviews and sometimes they waste your time. Lenses is one of my favorite things to review on my channel sometimes it takes me weeks to research shoot and edit it. I'll definitely check out more of your videos. Respect

      @tonypmedia 4 роки тому

      Don't need it anyways. This is photography ... There's no "right lens for _you_". ALL lens are perfect... it's about what works for the shot. In simplicity, crop factor is nothing more than (what your camera reduces to * The lens) = ACTUAL mm your lens equals. Nobody had time for all the math mess. Just makes you sound smarter. You know your camera when you shoot with it.

    • @marcoss6212
      @marcoss6212 5 років тому +1

      I have the Nikon 60mm micro, and it does fantastic! Most of what I shoot is with the 60mm, depending on where I shoot space wise, then I use Kenko extension tubes to bring it to 105mm, and if you want to be more creative, use a crop sensor camera like the D500 with a 1.5 crop factor, even closer without moving the camera. The 60mm micro lens is the sharpest Nikon lens there is, less glass elements in it.

    Thank you for the awesome video! You explained it very well why you can’t move closer with a lower focal length, but I was just curious if the same funky thing would occur if you used a 100mm length and backed away from the subject. Thanks again :) subbed

    • @ryank7911
      @ryank7911 3 роки тому

      Also out of curiosity, were the lenses you used for the three photos used on a full frame or a crop sensor camera to mimic the a 28mm, 50mm, & 100mm length?

    • @LaurenCarisShort
      @LaurenCarisShort  3 роки тому

      You're welcome! If you move back with a long focal length, you wouldn't get the same distortion but you'd need to move SUPER far back to get the same subject size! Hope that makes sense!
      The images in this video were shot on a crop sensor (so the mm are equivalent), but I use a full frame now :)

    Hi Lauren i have canon m50 and i do some food vide vlog and food photography what kind of lens can you suggest if i want a closer shot that doesn't have too much blur, its like i wanted to see every details on the photo

    • @LaurenCarisShort
      @LaurenCarisShort  3 роки тому

      You'd want something that you can shoot at a very narrow aperture with, if you're going to be close to your subject you're probably going to want f/16 upwards to keep the background in focus. It's a mix of aperture and the depth of your scene and perspective that affect the background blur. Hope that helps!

    This is so great, Lauren! Very clearly explained and useful info. Question for you: I'd like to do more of these kinds of "talking head" videos myself (combined with top-down cooking shots) and have been using my Nikon 35mm 1.8 lens on my Nikon D810 camera. It's OK, but I have to use manual focus because the autofocus is too slow for video and produces noise when the lens zooms. Can you recommend a faster, quieter lens that I can use for video and photo? Thank you so much in advance

    • @LaurenCarisShort
      @LaurenCarisShort  6 років тому +1

      Hi there, so glad you found it useful! Ok 2 things:
      I love the sigma Art lenses, there's also a 35mm compatible with Nikon and the autofocus is great.
      As for the noise, I would really recommend using off camera sound recording when you're talking/cooking. There will always be a few funky noises coming out of your camera, and if you record audio of cam you'll avoid that. I use the rode smartlav mic for recording my audio. You can either plug it directly into your camera or into an external audio recorder like the Zoom H4N.

    • @thenewbaguette
      @thenewbaguette 6 років тому

      Thank you for taking the time to answer, Lauren! This is very helpful. Right now I'm using the Rode on-camera mic but plan to switch to a lapel mic soon-ish.
      I've been hearing a lot about Sigma lenses since they seem to be beloved among food photographers. I always assumed since I have a Nikon camera I need to use Nikon lenses but I guess that's not so.
      Thanks again! :)

      Ive been using 800d for almost a year for food photography. Coupled with 100mm L series macro and sigma 50mm dg. Both lenses are designed for full frame but i like how they behave on each photo that i took. 100mm would be around 160mm and 50mm would be around 80mm on a cropped sensor camera.

    just subscribed to your channel, I loved this video! can I also ask you a recommendation? do you perhaps know or suggest a fuji lens in particular? I already have a 35mm (which correspond to a 50mm full frame so I would use that for flatlays) and I'm still considering which lens I should buy to add to my kit. I checked the 60mm macro and the 55-200 but I don't know!

    • @LaurenCarisShort
      @LaurenCarisShort  3 роки тому

      I don't have personal experience with Fuji lenses, but I would personally go for the 60mm if you're on a crop sensor. That's what I had when I was on a crop sensor and loved it!
