Aww mate! It still turned out soo good! The tape marks actually look like a fancy raised platform dealio. It gives a bit of extra detail. I want someone to start a brand of resin called "Depression Syrup" lmao. Every project is a learning adventure. Lars man that looks amazing. Good work! It all came together amazingly and I absolutely love the sword details. 😍 And that feeling when things start sliding into wrong is hard dude, and look at you! Patiently ramming your skull into it until it works. Inspiring ❤
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it! :) While the gods didn't gift me with much raw talent I did get this thick skull so ramming it into my myriad problems does seem to often be my best option 😄
hahaha well considering the level of personal cringe I have to overcome to do these videos alone in my office, I'm pretty sure doing it in front of actual humans would cause me to implode on the spot 😅
Easiest mould release is some wd40 spray it on then let it sit for a few mins and then wipe it clean, rinse and repeat until u can put some masking tape on it and it wont stick and presto mould will release. Just dont use to much and wipe it down nicely.
oh wow wd40, didn't even consider that! Thanks for the advice, I'll definitely try that! This time I used a petrorelease mold spray which I figured _should_ have worked but I only did one pass and didn't wipe or test with masking tape, that's a great tip :) Thanks!
I really love watching your videos, even though I don't make anything with resign I always enjoy your content. When you make your moulds for pouring, have you tried filling it with water first to check for leaks? I have seen other creators doing that and could save a little bit of heartache. I mean I love watching your decent into resign madness, but ya know... a little knowledge and all that :)
Thank you so much! 😊 Yeah I've seen that too, I think a part of me is just afraid of what will happen to the painted things when the get wet.. Which makes very little sense seeing as I'm just about to make it wet anyways but in a way that can't be undone 😅 I should just toughen up and try that next time I guess 😄
Love your videos, humor and editing 😊👌🏻 It's also so refreshing to see that also other people struggle with seemingly small problems ... most of the youtube diy videos make it look so easy, but here you are, showing off the true side of a hobby 😂 thanks, very entertaining and educative and of course, really stunning piece of art :)
Please upload more! I always have a good time watching your videos, editing style is amazing and I like your little failures in projects along the way and the end result is still really great
Thanks! 😊 Definitely want to improve the speed of which I finish these things so I can get you guys more videos, so hopefully I'll be able to make the uploads more and more frequent as we go :)
Super nice video!! One simple and easy thing you could try is to use plastic or silicone cups, and a silicone stick to mix the resin, instead of a paper cup and wood stick. You can also warm the resin a bit on warm water before mixing. It won't be bubble free, like if you use a vacuum or a pressure chamber. But it' s something simple that could reduce them a bit.
Thanks! When I still had a batch of plastic cups here for mixing I used to give the mix a hot water bath to lower the viscosity before pouring, which did help! Which I guess is another incentive to go back to using those :) Hadn't thought about avoiding wooden sticks for stirring but that does make sense.. I'll look into getting some silicone ones! Thanks for the tips! 🙂
Use caulk on the inside and outside of the mold. That's where you went wrong for the leak. Also you can seal things like pain-coated objects with Mod-Podge :D Also, for the sword when you're trying to submerge something in resin, do it tiny layers at a time. Don't submerge all at once.
New sub here, first time watching. I work with resin, using molds and on tumblers. I've been collecting clay tools and some clay because I want to up my resin game. You, sir, have just given me a TON of inspiration! Thank you so much! Fantastic build and lessons learned. :D
Do not buy a vacuum chamber to avoid bubbles, do not get patient, your USP is clearly the entertaining edit :) Oh. Just add a sign "ATLANTIS" to the bottom and the bubbles are explained away. Just kidding, happy that I subscribed for you personality and your humour! You deserve more subs.
It looks epic though! The tarnished look may not be entirely true to the source, but it makes it look even more mysterious and old. Love it! Who cares what it looks like in the back? And those tiny bubbles make it seem as if the pieces are breathing, or doing...something :) Well done!
I love your videos, the sword looks amazing! Regarding the resin, I've used a few different types over the years and I've found that the quick setting ones seem to turn out better and with less mistakes ie ruining paint etc. I know it "feels" safer to use the longer setting ones but as long as you're prepped enough the faster ones are better in my opinion.
oh really? That is some great insight, I hadn't really though about that. That does make a lot of sense though! That _is_ definitely the reason why I've gone with the long setting ones (and the hope that more air has time to escape but I'm not sure that's actually the case). Going with a faster set one would also cut the total waiting time down with several days so I think I might have to take your advice and try that for the next epoxy project :) Thanks!
@@LarsStrandenArt no problem at all. That's just my experience though so maybe try a small one first. The one I used had a working time of 30mins and a total set time of 12 hours. You might have to do smaller layers though as they usually can't be poured in large amounts
ah yeah that's true.. I guess I've usually ended up doing layered pours anyways so should be fine 😄 The brand I have the easiest access to has a 24h short set version (as opposed to the 72h long one) so I'll give that a whirl!

For my resin casts I make the walls out of legos covered with packing tape and the bottom packing tape covered paper taped on, on the outside then hot glued around the bottom on the inside, but those are usually shallow pours.
awesome! :) I've used lego as walls for casting silicone molds before, guess I figured the plastic might bond to the epoxy so haven't tried it for that. Do you tape the insides of the lego frame so the epoxy doesn't actually touch the plastic blocks?

Hi Lars! The end product looks amazing, you definitely wouldn't know that resin is your arch enemy from those beauty shots. I'm a huge movie fan and I love practical effects movies like The Thing and Alien, and while you have inspired me to pick up some polymer clay and UV resin (I have not worked up the courage for epoxy resin yet), I don't think I'm ready to tackle the slimy creatures from old horror movies yet. I love Lord of the Rings and I know it's chock-full of some of the most iconic props and set pieces ever and I know you've done all sorts of different projects, but I'm wondering if there's a movie besides LotR that inspired you to create dioramas and if you have some movies dioramas that you'd like to tackle in the future one day - like a dream project of sorts?
