Good stuff. My current pulpit theory is 'politics are downstream from Scripture,' meaning we teach the church God's Word and as we go God will mold their hearts and minds and this will influence their politics in the public sphere. It's a working theory I'd say, but it's where I am today.
We need an extended version of this discussion topic. 2 hr minimum!

Did Jesus not know what Herod was up to? How come He THE King did not call him out?? Hadn't John said 'I must decrees and HE must increase? Why was he still leading a separate movement until Jesus in Matthew 11:3 told John's disciples go and tell John.....blessed is he that is not offended because of me??
we need churches to teach on voting and registering people... half of all evangelicals are not even registered, and half of those vote...
