Brilliant - so happy I found this video. Just finished building an identival unit and I am experiencing similar issues. The display always shows No GPS No GSM The CV files only record wifi data The ATGM336H module LED blinks which indicates that it has acquired satellites, yet no positions are recorder on the cv file. The CV files only record wifi data The SIM 800L module never showed an LED, I foolishly assembled it with the spring antenna, making contact with the module, guess it burnt out. I downloaded the cell folder to my sd card, it made no difference - however after watching this video I realise the SIM800L has to function - time to order a new SIM800L and make sure the antenna has air space. Could it be a recent code / software update that caused the No GPS data issue?
Great comment! Firstly, no, the recent update didn't break anything as I updated all 4 of my drivers. Second, with the small ceramic antenna it's kinda slow to get the first satt fix, drive a couple of minutes outside the city, find an open field and stay there for a few minutes with the antenna pointing to the sky, also check your soldering joints on the gps module pins. Third, also check the soldering joints on the sim800l module, it might be related to a faulty soldering (99% of the cases the led should blink). The antenna touching the module won't fry it, but you won't get the towers, try bending it upwards before buying a new one, this might work. To rephrase: check the soldering joins on both gps and GSM modules; get out in the field (with the ceramic antenna you need to have a plain sight, you shouldn't be near any buildings) and wait for 20 mins or so to get a fix; bend the GSM antenna upwards and power the driver up to see if the led blinks (after you have bended the antenna) and if there is no change, buy a new sim800l module. As a final thought, buying a helix gps antenna was the best decision I have made related to this project, after the first fix, it sees sattelites even if I am in the middle of the room at any floor in my building. Let me know how it went. Cheers!
@@pythoneatssquirrel Everything you say makes perfect sense - thanks for your reply. I resoldederd all the SIM800L terminal pins, still no LED. I have ordered a new module, In the meantime I have started looking at the helix gps antennas. It makes sense to install a high gain antenna, this will certainly improve satellite acquisition. As soon as I make the mods I will share my results with you. Good luck.
