Congratulations to los gringos. You have set an excellent example. Good for you. Have you thought of opening a Spanish academy or starting a Spanish speaking club of some sort?

It is interesting to hear how different the experience of learning a foreign language is for Americans. In Europe it is normal to learn at least two foreign languages in school. I learned english and german as a child. I have worked in both England and Germany as an engineer. Remember languages are tools to communicate with other nationalities.
It does not need to be perfect, it has to be good enough. By the way I also speak Spanish.

Yep. Dustin kind of became a celebrity in Argentina only because of how good his spanish is. Yet I don't see foreigners getting famous in the US because of how great their english is. No disrespect to this dudes. They are great, it is great They go out of their confort zone and they are very skilled. Just saying that for the rest of the World that is not native english speaking, for us learning at least one extra language is a basic necessary skill for work, travelling, and academic enviroments, and is usually very much taken for granted. Besides that still live that they share their expierence and great work.

    • @mauroalvarez4188

I think that these people not only became famous due to they’re influencers but also because they were able to get the accent and the correct pronunciation from the countries they’re representing. As an Argentine, I must say that every foreign who tries to imitate the Argentine accent can’t do it. Due to the complexity of vowels and phonemes, it’s one of the most difficult accents to learn and speak properly.

In reality Spanish is NOT a foreign language of America. It predates English in the Americas. By 300 years. The three OLDEST cities in America, St.Augustine, Florida, Los Angeles,Ca. and Santa Fe , New MEXICO were Spanish speaking cities.SPANISH was the FIRST continental language of America

Total immersion was the best for me too! I took Spanish in high school & minored in it in college, but was so limited in speaking until I moved to Nicaragua. The only English speaking friends I had left 2 weeks after I got there, so it was sink or swim for me. Lots of mistakes & lots of embarrassing moments, but within 5 months I was having conversations & understanding movies and music, even picking up habits como apuntar con la boca. (One of the things that helped me most was watching TV in Spanish with Spanish subtitles so the eyes and ears made the connection in your brain.)

Depending where you go and who talk to...in Mexico yes..we have different regions where they speak Spanish totally different, l mean with their own accents, with different sounds that makes you think am l in Mexico?...for instance the Spanish spoken in Merida, Yucatan, Mex....it's different compared to the Spanish spoken in Mexico, City...it is just an example...but also, like l say, same like in English..there is proper Spanish as well...and the degree of culture or education counts too..if you talk to a lawyer..a doctor.... their Spanish it's not gonna sound like regular Spanish... that's why l say...depends who you talk to and where you go to...(region).... people from Veracruz don't talk like northerners... people from Chichuahua or Monterrey .... anyway congratulations you speak Spanish very well... excellent...👍

I really need to start speaking in Spanish to my daughter so she can really immerse in Spanish and learn it. She's taking Spanish classes in school she's in middle school. I made the mistake of not teaching her since she was a baby. She has been hearing it though so she understands it more than she can actually speak it, since I mostly speak Spanish to my husband which I shouldn't. The best thing I can do for both of them is speaking English to my husband since he wants to improve his English he's from Jalisco, Mexico and immigrated when he 16yrs. old. He is not as fluid as he would like to be but he doesn't really practice English much. I should be speaking in Spanish with my daughter so she can really learn it. I was born and raised in Houston, TX. My father forced us to learn Spanish. My father is Mexican and my mom is Salvadoran.😊😘

No worrries. Since she has been hearing Spanish, and understands it, she will be able to learn to speak very quickly and very well if she decides to.

One of my best friends is Mexican and the other best friend is Salvadoran. I'm Chinese. :) My Salvadoran bff didn't grow up speaking Spanish either. I don't know why her parents didn't teach her. But she watched a lot of Spanish TV and taught herself how to speak it. So, if your daughter really wants to learn it and you're now willing to engage her, she can definitely become fluent. It's not too late. She's still young enough and her brain is still able to absorb it a lot faster and easier than fully grown adults. Meanwhile... I can barely speak Spanish (despite multiple attempts at learning it -- I didn't meet my Spanish-speaking BFF's until after my multiple attempts and finally I just gave up trying). And because I no longer live in the insular Chinese immigrant bubble that I grew up with (my other BFF is white), I'm quickly losing my Chinese speaking abilities too. It's making me super sad because I'm so proud of being the sibling with the better Chinese (my younger sister used to speak terribly but now she's the one who can speak it better than me, because she's still at home with my parents, while I moved out and across the country... where my new friends in my new city are also not Chinese speakers LOL). Not sure what I'll have to pass onto my children someday but I figured I could take Mommy and Baby Chinese lessons??????? LOL

    • @momovaryacting8798
      @momovaryacting8798 4 роки тому

I made the same mistake 🙁 in my case my husband speaks very little Spanish. His mom is from Mexico & growing she only spoke English to them because she wanted to be fluent since she immigrated to U.S. Me on the other hand was immersed in Spanish with all adults around me growing up so I learned English when I started school. My kids don’t have many people around them talking spanish. I should have talked to them from day one. Made my home Spanish & then they’d learn English at school. My son is taking Spanish in middle school & it’s a joke. I’m making an effort to really focus on this now. It’s so much harder than people think especially when it’s what you’re use to. If I knew what I knew now I’d have started only Spanish with them since they were babies

The boys felt awkward speaking, though some who embraced it really flourished! I’m going to pass this video to my former teacher friends-it would be a great motivator for the boys and even females students to understand how to really learn a language the student needs to invest themselves--it’s no passive ! The hubby & I are retiring to the state of Jalisco this summer so that will begin our immersion process. I've studied Spanish off and on throughout my life but never seemed to get better. I realized some years back that immersion was the only way so I'm excited about this move and the opportunity to learn. I appreciate the four of you explaining you progress in learning the language. I never realized I was expecting to just learn and be done with it. Duh!!! I now get it that I MUST COMMIT to learning wholeheartedly AND CONTINUE to learn throughout the remainder of my life time. So appreciate you guys!!

This is awesome guys and congratulations on those awesome accents! I fully agree with what you said about the learning process - I went through some of that but the other way around! I'd only add what worked best for me: reading actual books and media. You can start with something you've already read, that way the actual story is not an issue and you can focus on idioms and vocabulary (I read the Harry Potter series in English/French at 16 and that took my fluency to a whole new level). Great content guys, keep it coming! Un abrazo de una 🇵🇪 en 🇬🇧!

I want to thank you guys for finally telling us your stories on how y’all learned Spanish & got envolved. Secondly I wanna say PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE everyone besides Ford, please put English subtitles along with your videos. It would be nice to understand, as I’m still freshly new to learning Spanish. It was nice to finally know there are other Americans like myself with the same love for the language& culture. Then to not be able to relate & experience the way everyone does because I’m not able to understand your videos because of not having English subtitles ..and it’s shitty because some of you have really good content and I’m not able to understand and continue watching☹️

Thank you guys, I’m Peruvian and I live in the States for 13 years. English is for me like Spanish for you guys and I was looking for a video like this from any English speaker UA-camr since my wife is American and I want to watch this video with her, hopefully she gets inspired. Initially I was selfish trying to get better with my English, but after 6 years being married I wonder why she is not interested in learning Spanish, but now that we have kids I’m worried they won’t be bilingual. The funny thing is that when we go to Peru she is able to talk or at least try to communicate in Spanish with my family and friends if I’m not around.
    Saludos desde Oregon.

WOW….You gentlemen have really inspired me to get off my rump and learn Spanish. I know my entire name is Spanish, however, I was born and raised in Hawaii and I do speak a little Hawaiian. My husband and I are moving to Mexico in May 2022. My husband is Argentinian (born and raised in California) and speaks a little Spanish already. Anyway, I’m so happy I stumbled on your UA-cam channel and I am excited to continue to follow your channel.

I totally agree!! The best way to learn a new language is by immersing yourself in the culture. Even if you aren’t able to travel or live abroad, we have access to so much at the palm of our hands. Learning a language is like when you’re a kid and you’re learning to speak. You learn by just hearing your parents and listening to your environment; and you repeat what you hear. With that being said, to learn another language try and do as much of your normal activities in that language; for example pop culture: movies, shows, music. You can try to listen to some news if possible. Try to surround yourself with people of that culture so you can practice, as well as people who might also be trying to learn the language; and reach out to people that you can practice with via messaging. I completely agree with the reading. In general, reading aloud, whether in your native language or a foreign language, has been proven to very good for you. It helps with articulation and comprehension. One of the things I always tell people who are trying to learn is just to try reading aloud. Many times people tell me how they get frustrated because their words don’t come out as fast as they do in English; there is less fluidity because they are constantly thinking of the next word. The benefit of reading out loud is that you don’t have to think of the next word. The conversation is already there. So, I always say when you first start reading; try to read just for pronunciation. Don’t worry so much about how quickly you comprehended the text because it’s not your first language. Then you can go back and read again for pronunciation and comprehension. Sometimes you have to break it up a little, but repetition is key to learning. Many times text written in other languages might be longer. For example, I notice sometimes when I’m reading Spanish that I could read what seems to be a paragraph for a sentence, that in English might just be one sentence; a couple lines. I find that other languages can be more descriptive and words just have more emotion attached to them. With that being said, this can make it a little more difficult to comprehend Spanish text if it’s not your native language; but not impossible. It’s why I tell people don’t get discouraged just immerse yourself in culture; when reading try the text first just for pronunciation, as when we were kids learning to read and sounding out the sounds that made up the word. Then go back to the text for articulation and comprehension. I love this video guys; thanks for sharing.

Valuing other people from other country's language is key - it's a sign of respect. Trying to speak other people's language shows that we care and they see it that way. For example, I studied in Italy and was always trying to speak to the locals in Italian and they appreciate it as opposed to speaking to them in English...bravo to all of you for trying and learning Spanish!

Thank you! guys for loving my first language, Spanish! I came to the USA from the Dominican Rep. in 1979 with my husband, and both of us only spoke BASIC ENGLISH. Our "Aha! Moment" was when we realized that only INMERSING OUTSELVES in the American culture by READING NEWSPAPERS, MAGAZINES, BOOKS, listening to MUSIC and TV PROGRAMS, as well as CONVERSING WITH EACH OTHER IN ENGLISH (that was hard!)...all that helped us to become fluent in conversations and comprehension. We spent a whole year speaking and writing ONLY in ENGLISH!

😍 Love it! No me imagino tener uno solo! La vida sería muy aburrida 😒

I’m 2 months into learning Spanish (started during lockdown) and it’s coming along nicely, often I watch Spanish UA-cam videos and am amazed at how many comments I can read and understand, learning Spanish does not take years unless you want to speak fluently, it just requires dedication
