@@MrLoverman7134 It's not so much about how it "looked" as the very essence of what the scene is was watered down. That scene is more important than people realize, because he's not simply just looking in the mirror at himself and having a little moment, he is in that moment absorbing himself in his delusion and essentially casting a spell on himself of ignorance of what he has done. After you beat the game and learn about James and his real motivations that all becomes more and more clear.

Damn, that mirror shot is so important in gauging whether the dev, director, whatever, understands Silent Hill 2. Bloober acknowledged they got it wrong in the reveal and course-corrected, and I really hope they do the same with the movie, because 'gaping-mouthed-whoa-dude-amazement' is not what James' face is meant to express in that opening scene.
I'm cautious but not pessimistic about it. The 1st movie, which was directed by the guy doing this one, isn't as bad as people make it out to be. Yeah it didn't follow the source 1 to 1 but I'd say it did a decentish job overall on mimicking/representing Silent Hill, unlike the 2nd movie which was genuinely atrocious.
@@FalcoMoment There was no need to follow it to the letter, a copy and paste from the game to the movie would have been predictable, so I give it points here for wanting to provide variety in this regard.
James. James. James. Carlos. In all seriousness, I do appreciate how the movie kept à part of his face in the shadow like in the games (and unlike in the remake trailer)
Its very specific and intentional too. In the behind the scenes stuff you can see Takayoshi Sato acting out the weird claw gesture over and over. He wasn't just touching his face.
I could be wrong, but I always felt like the original gesture looked as if James was pulling down a mask. Which makes alot more sense for his character than just touching his cheek.
Because they wanted to show off their facial animation tech. It’s extremely frustrating that even after revising this shot for the remake, they still erred. The original motion wasn’t accidental and the new touch of the cheek doesn’t have anywhere near as much pathos.
@@mphylo2296 I think it's recreated nicely in the third one. It looks like he's doing the same thing as in the OG, but you can see more hesitation in his movement
The movie is gonna tank, I've seen better casting from blind monkeys. Idk how that director can claim to love silent hill so much yet continue to be completely clueless. He screwed up the first movie, why trust him with this one?
The movie is gonna be absolutely terrible, I just know it. They probably gonna end with James and Pyramid Head engage in a hand to hand fight or something (like that horrible Resident Evil Apocalypse).
His mouth gaping open doesn’t bother anyone? Feels like he didn’t really study the original cinematic, which is iconic partially because of how subtle the gestures are of a man already beginning to question his sanity, the horror of his maltreatment of his wife ever present. This dude just wide opened mouth like “WHOA Wtf am I like even real gnaaaarly dude” -I also used to be a bro actor and probably would’ve done the same choice so I know haha
I'm not sure what it is exactly, but there's something special about Silent Hill 2. I've played all of them, but 2 is the only one I've gone back to repeatedly. Honestly have no interest in the remake, though. Especially not for $70. Personally, I wish developers would cut it out with all the remakes and remasters.
▪️ Yeah I was actually going to buy a PS5 just for the remake if it seemed like it matched up with the original enough... But from what I've seen, it falls flat. The original had that disturbing essence about it. Just don't see that in the remake. They should've just done something different which was heavily inspired by SH2... 🟥
I really DON'T like the James of the movie trailer return to silent hill, he is totally different...Was so hard to choose an actor that actually resembles the video game main character?😢
