    Today is the first time I have heard of this. Other countries cease to amaze me with these unique sports. This one looks very interesting.

      My turn to be that guy:
      *It's "never cease", as in, "they never stop amazing me"
      rather than "they stopped amazing me," as you said.

      140km/h when they come down. Takes some nerves to be in the field as a defending team. Especially if you have bad eyes.

    I invented a similar game in elementary school. There were two teams which would hit balls from one side to another(kicking would deflate the balls so it was enforced by the noon duties). The amount of participants often numbered more than thirty so the ball was competed to be catched. Pretty soon the goal of hitting a ball far was established.

    LOL i would love to play this!!! Probly drunk tho so when i get hit by a rubber puck going 160mph i wont pass out from the pain. Btw football, hockey, lacrosse, even baseball can be more dangerous. Now the swiss have cheese, chocolate, watches, and hornussen.

    So, it's basically like a cracked up version of golf, with a club that is essentially a stiff whip with a hitting end.

    How do They count the points? Goofy game indeed, I love the atmosphere of being buddy's.

    • @sofafernsehfan
      @sofafernsehfan 6 місяців тому

      You count the Hornuss hitting the ground unstopped within the boudaries of the field. And if you tie there the game is decided by the total of distance to the point they fell. Hitting opposite players gave extra points in the old times.

    Is there any significance to throwing the paddles up in the air other then trying to knock the hornet down?

    • @sofafernsehfan
      @sofafernsehfan 6 місяців тому +1

      No. Holding them up does have. You show those behind you you've seen the incoming hornuss and where to find it. And you shout the players name where you expect it to come down. Big thrill if they shout your name and you could not see it yet. There is no protective gear beside your helmet and the paddle.

      "Back in the day" it was willow and the wooden block being of common hornbeam. Nowadays the sticks are carbon fibre, the wooden block remains common hornbeam.

    No. It's the general SPOKEN language (mother tongue) in so called "german-speaking Switzerland" for everyone, including government officials, top managers, nobel price winners.... But it's not standardised. It exists in regional variations of which 95% are easily understandable to eachother. At the same time, the predominant WRITTEN language is still Standard German, even though Schwyzerdütsch is gaining ground in the written form as well.

    • @Slithermotion

      "A language is a dialect with a marine and an army"
      Honestly Dutch was once considered as a dialect of german, technicly it still is but since the dutch dialect was backup by the dutch goverment by an official standard it got the status of a language.
      Same for example for venetian, until recently it was just seen as a dialect of the italian language, then got officialy standardized and boom new language. The dialect/language hasn't changed for that matter it's just the political back up that they've got.
      Same could happen with swiss german if the swiss would some find out which of the swiss dialects is the best one and should be standardized...which is probably after a civil war.
      So...it will stay a dialect I guess.
