I'm old, it's nice to find something I've never heard of. Thanks.
Today is the first time I have heard of this. Other countries cease to amaze me with these unique sports. This one looks very interesting.
My turn to be that guy:
*It's "never cease", as in, "they never stop amazing me"
rather than "they stopped amazing me," as you said.
Doesn't it man holy shit. I'm from America and I was so blown away I searched it again
Same here.
First time ever heard of it!
This looks like a really interesting sport. I wish there were places in North America to give it a try.
What a jaw-droppingly beautiful countryside.
It's a very charming sport in how goofy it is. Looks like something out of a cartoon.
Im Swiss and live abroad since one year. Never had anything to do with Hornussen while in Switzerland. Now in Thailand I am proud that we Swiss play such a wonderful game (no hooligans there!!!!)
Monti, Thailand
Very interesting, would love to learn it! Love from México!
Saw a random comment on twitter asking me to search this.
I'm glad I did.
I learned something today... That's really interesting. Thanks for sharing!
Reddit sent me down the rabbit hole. Those hornets look like they hit the sound barrier
140km/h when they come down. Takes some nerves to be in the field as a defending team. Especially if you have bad eyes.
This looks absolutely quality!
I invented a similar game in elementary school. There were two teams which would hit balls from one side to another(kicking would deflate the balls so it was enforced by the noon duties). The amount of participants often numbered more than thirty so the ball was competed to be catched. Pretty soon the goal of hitting a ball far was established.
LOL i would love to play this!!! Probly drunk tho so when i get hit by a rubber puck going 160mph i wont pass out from the pain. Btw football, hockey, lacrosse, even baseball can be more dangerous. Now the swiss have cheese, chocolate, watches, and hornussen.
The Irish sport of hurling is much faster and (potentially) much more dangerous than this or the other sports you mentioned...
I wonder how the blockers avoid injury. I'd imagine it's not uncommon to fall onto each other or catch a thrown paddle with your head.
Wow! Interesting game to play.
45 teammates hanging out at the pub, I think that would rather expensive and to remember everyone's names after 45 rounds of Stout Ale !! Lol!
This is pretty cool
I would probably say "hingerwäudler" or "püüru"
What kind of rod are using in kind of game,I think it's good for fishing 😂😂😅
I see you're from Canada. If you like rolling green hills, you should visit PEI. You won't find any mountains there, however :P
So, it's basically like a cracked up version of golf, with a club that is essentially a stiff whip with a hitting end.
Only thing even related to golf is you hit something otherwise its absolutely nothing like golf lol.
Imagine standing in the driving range, trying to stop the incoming ball with a paddle. Oh, and unlike golf its a team sport played by farmers and working class.
Could it have been a method of sending info across the hills?
No, they fly like 300m not 3000m
This game looks awesome! Why isn’t this an Olympic sport?
A sport should be played in 75+ countries ti be in Olympics.
How do They count the points? Goofy game indeed, I love the atmosphere of being buddy's.
You count the Hornuss hitting the ground unstopped within the boudaries of the field. And if you tie there the game is decided by the total of distance to the point they fell. Hitting opposite players gave extra points in the old times.
2024 and I've only just this today 😮
what... how do they manage to hit that ball!?!
Lil' Vampire By using the stick.
A stick today with fiberglass or carbon stick on the end the "träff"150-350g kind of piece round hard wood!!✌swizz
they slide on the rail to the ball
I get that it would ram up. But why does it gain damage every turn 😅
Is there any significance to throwing the paddles up in the air other then trying to knock the hornet down?
No. Holding them up does have. You show those behind you you've seen the incoming hornuss and where to find it. And you shout the players name where you expect it to come down. Big thrill if they shout your name and you could not see it yet. There is no protective gear beside your helmet and the paddle.
Look in HQ. Press HQ Button on the left of the Volume control button.
What were those sticks made of back in the day?
"Back in the day" it was willow and the wooden block being of common hornbeam. Nowadays the sticks are carbon fibre, the wooden block remains common hornbeam.
Wat 0:30 It's there and then it's gone
Boring King Crimson
that’s what happens when you hit a tiny object with a lot of force
yes it is swiss german...which sounds more aggressiv than german call it schwitzertütsch!!! you have different dialect depending the region...wallis, bern, zurich..etc.
looks to me like a game people would make while practicing with a longsword or something
i no you wrote this 3 months ago, but i nearly pissed myself when i read it. don't no why, thought you should know
Send this game to the olympics !!!!
They really need to combine this with wing flying somehow.
that seems pretty unsafe to swing a long metal wire in a full circle
Not if you have been training since you were a child
Yeah, that's probably part of the fun :D
Another sport that seems ridiculously dangerous to me is ski jumping/flying.
Amazingly, only 87% of this sport's participants finish each season with broken ankles.
No. It's the general SPOKEN language (mother tongue) in so called "german-speaking Switzerland" for everyone, including government officials, top managers, nobel price winners.... But it's not standardised. It exists in regional variations of which 95% are easily understandable to eachother. At the same time, the predominant WRITTEN language is still Standard German, even though Schwyzerdütsch is gaining ground in the written form as well.
Die Schweizer waren schon immer Ehrenmänner 😂😂
Alpha Kicker a hesch recht
Well it appears somewhat more exciting then curling.
Looks like a golf swing

He's speaking Swiss German. It's a dialect.
He says knob cheese at 2.03
welll done!!!
2:03?
I want to know why a placard is thrown into the air seemingly on every play.
I would assume it's to try and knock down the puck from the air.
It is, the batting team only score if the hornuss touches the ground in the field, without having been touched by the opposing team
I didnt know mario was swedish...
id be afraid to get sniped by that ball
It’s how the farmers used to punish there kids lol you block it you don’t get hit

Swiss isn't a language
omgkikoo acctually you're right! It's a dialect of german. But it has changed so much that you can't really compare it though.
It is
"A language is a dialect with a marine and an army"
Honestly Dutch was once considered as a dialect of german, technicly it still is but since the dutch dialect was backup by the dutch goverment by an official standard it got the status of a language.
Same for example for venetian, until recently it was just seen as a dialect of the italian language, then got officialy standardized and boom new language. The dialect/language hasn't changed for that matter it's just the political back up that they've got.
Same could happen with swiss german if the swiss would some find out which of the swiss dialects is the best one and should be standardized...which is probably after a civil war.
So...it will stay a dialect I guess.
dont even speak english 1/10
Those people from the other team trying to stop it. There has to be many deaths. lol
