    Fellow Michigander here, I actually solo’ed the Fife Lake loop shortly after you guys and saw your names in the NCT log book. As a fan of your channels, I was surprised/excited to see your names and at first thought maybe someone had stolen your trail/channel names till I saw your videos come out recently. Thanks so much for highlighting Michigan trails, and congrats on your Michigan triple crown! I can’t wait to try it for myself!

      That’s awesome! I always do a quick scan through the books too to see who has been on the trail. Did you like the Fife Lake loop? 🏕🤙

      @@MarkGoesHiking I did like it! It was my first time doing that loop, I have done the Manistee River Trail loop a number of times and was looking for a less trafficked alternative. I really enjoyed the scenic views on the NCT portion of the trail and would definitely do it again!

    I do appreciate the older style video you've captured. Sometimes the more sophisticated graphics messes with authenticity of a person's hike; it also is a tad easier on the eyes than newer film.
    Thank you Michigan Mark.

    I think Rob nailed it... it is the sheer mileage in the time allotted. I am probably older than all of you guys (58) but on flat terrain we can usually kick out about 4+ miles an hour (we being my two teenagers & I). But we don't have a lot of flat trails here in NC where we do most of our hiking. So would be interested to see how we would do, as that really suits our style. We are more base-camp hikers than back-packers.

    • @MarkGoesHiking
      @MarkGoesHiking  Рік тому

      I don’t think it’s too cold, but I love cold weather. Best season in my opinion in right now; September - heavy snow. Also, April and May are good. Little to no bugs and less people on the trails. Cheers!

    What is the best time of year to hike in Michigan?

    • @MarkGoesHiking
      @MarkGoesHiking  5 місяців тому +1

      July and August will be hot and humid, but beautiful. Best times are mid April-mid June and September. October is amazing with the colors, but you are likely to get some cold and rain. In the UP and Northern Lower Michigan the ticks are horrible once it gets warm until August.

      The cabin is my family cabin. Night 1 - campground at Jordan River and Night 2&3 we stayed at the Old US 31 campground at Fife Lake. There are sites at Red Bridge at the Manistee River Loop that would be good too.

    What brand water filter was that??

      BeFree by Katadyn

    • @Michelle-ce1qh
      @Michelle-ce1qh Рік тому +1

      @@MarkGoesHiking thanks for that! Do you treat the water any other way or is this filter sufficient? I am doing a Isle Royale trip in July and want to be as prepared as possible regarding the water situation.

    • @MarkGoesHiking
      @MarkGoesHiking  Рік тому +1

      @@Michelle-ce1qh The BeFree Filter (or the Sawyer Squeeze) are sufficient. With the BeFree filter, be sure to soak the filter as you head out on trail. To do that simply fill the filter bottle up so the filter is in the water and use it as one of your water bottles. If you don't want to use it as an additional water bottle, fill it up so the the filter is in water for about 2 hours, then empty it go about your trip. If you don't pre soak it, you will not have any flow rate to speak of until it saturates. You will only have to do this at the start of your trip. For Isle Royale, I would suggest filling it up for your ferry ride and that would do the trick. I hope that helps! Enjoy the trip!
