      Otto clearly has decent footwork, else he can't possibly hang with Finland's highest ranked player. It just that Otto doesn't bend down like most high level players so it looks like he is not moving.

    It’s so hard to play ‘your game’ against top players. At first look I thought nerves or intimidation were putting Otto off his game, but Benedek had so many shots that drew Otto into forced errors. He knows where you like to take risks and baits it so hard. Still great determination coming back in game 2 I think it was.

    • @Wally-H
      @Wally-H 2 роки тому +5

      That extra pace and spin Benedek generates was rushing Otto into his shots. Unless you are practicing against players of his standard all the time that's going to be difficult to counter as you've tuned your game to play against lesser talents.

    At first I thought Otto was just playing bad, but after watching the match a second time, this was really just a masterful performance from Benedek. He did an extremely good job of never giving Otto the shots he’s looking for, and that’s why Otto looked so different compared to other matches.

      Is he really? The difference in playstyle/ skill(?) is so much different from the world's top 20 matches I sometimes watch. This looks so much more frivolous, like first division tabletennis or something. Apparently they can hold themselves against the world's best! Or is the world top that small? In tennis the #100 can sometimes surprise top 10 players.

      @@Funkytrip73 Yes, he does need to play world matches. I think there is a large difference in skill because the ITTF intentionally inflates more points/competitions to Westerners. Otherwise, Asians would completely dominate and there would be lack of variety. Another reason is probably that Benedek isn't playing his best because it's a relatively small competition. Nevertheless, I don't think he deserves his ranking. If you search him up, you can see he gets obliterated in the games with the top 20.

Also, this gives me flashbacks to getting to the last couple of matches of a (casual) tournament and suddenly going up against someone at a massively higher level.... you try to have belief but you just can't do much and you know the outcome.... so frustrating. I think at 1:51 Otto was probably thinking: hey, that's my trick. And Benedik would quote Emil: it's all about skill. 🙂

    Great level!! The match two years ago was even closer though.. did you feel Otto played better last time or has Benedek improved?

    • @Alleis
      @Alleis 2 роки тому +4

      Both, Benedek has been training hard and Otto hasn't really been keeping up as much these past 2 years. He was also mentally checked out this match and neither of them played their actual level.

    after 1 set, Olah tried to add some drama to the game and made it look more intense. I would say the match be like " Action, ... Cut... NICE"

    Otto shape but mad skills for someone who doesn't want to move or bend his legs. Holds his bat in the correct hand, makes it fun for me to watch and fantasize I could ever hit like that ... which I never will. 😂
