what a great dad 😂 the kitchen island and floors had to be ripped out and replaced and he says it was a "little inconvenient"
must be nice
@@rawlvee right? i woulda got beat 😳
@@chelseaxjayenot only beat but the octopus would of been down the drain ..
Clearly they're rich and deal with only first world problems.
🎉
Swim Shady is genius 😂
It's a good thing they are financially well off; most people don't describe having to rip out and replace their entire kitchen floor as "a little inconvenient".
Well said! Exactly what i thought. Also all the boxes etc. That dad is quite young and a doctor.. dr. Cameron Clifford i read. How ever good for them! To have a obsession they can and want to afford. He could bring his kid to museum around the world or diving but this entertainment and hobby is possible at home. A cheap alternative though if you think like this....he doenst has a bored his kid..not a moment haha
@@VioletLife8 The dad is a dentist.
You’d be surprised ,even not wealthy, what your forced to reinvest in a home….like a tornado that insurance doesn’t cover all the costs. ( by experience!)
Wow! They've really invested a LOT in those octopuses! I'm glad he turned down offers from other people to buy them! So responsible.
Yeah, especially considering they didn’t do their research before they got the octopus, which is something that should always be done when getting a pet. Any pet. That being said, people make mistakes and no one‘s perfect; but people should be responsible in those situations as well. I’m glad that it turned out well for the octopi. There are far too many irresponsible people out there that don’t do the research and then just dump their pets or worse.
@@user-mw6jo7ql1cexactly.
@@user-mw6jo7ql1cMy thoughts exactly.
This animal does NOT deserve to be in captivity. Humans disgust me!
Octopussy
I love the names they gave the babies😂
I started laughing! 😂
I’m curious to know how they are able to remember which octopus is which
@@debrakleid5752 they won't. they only named a couple when they have 50.
Love this. They really invested in their child's interest regardless of any inconvenience.
Money buys convenience.
Money buys convenience. Let's see how well the dad tolerates inconvenience if he couldn't afford to drive a Range Rover and remodel a kitchen due to a hobby mishap.
@@toolbaggersjealous much?
For the people saying to free it, you can't if it was bred in a aquarium it has never lived in the ocean.
Octopuses are born with every last instinct they will ever need.
@@honkeykong9563That’s not true of most any wild animal raised by humans, whether they’re bred in captivity or not. That octopus wouldn’t last much more than a few days in the ocean, just like any non-releasable ambassador animal.
The ones that do survive, survive because they’re either wild raised animals who were briefly rescued by people who didn’t interact with them any more than necessary during rehabilitation, or because of the environment they’re released in and the absence of predators around them. The ones that go on to have such staying power to become invasive do so because they reproduce quickly and in massive amounts-like pet cats who created the horrific stray colonies we have now. An adult stray cat, and even adult pet cats who go outside, have a lifespan of 1-5 years. The individuals aren’t surviving; the species is because they breed like crazy and have large litters. Invasive snakes, like the problem Florida is having right now, are a similar situation because very few animals in Florida are killing or eating snakes. But a pet snake _or_ a pet cat released in the Amazon won’t be as lucky.
Anything from a raccoon pup rescued on the side of the road to a fox bred in captivity for the pet trade will have dismal odds when released because ‘instinct’ is not the same as learned behaviors and skills. Mammals learn those skills directly from the parents and a human can’t substitute that process in a meaningful way. Animals that don’t have give live birth are having babies that build those survival skills from the second they’re hatched-usually MANY of them because the babies also have abysmal survival rates.
A captive raised animal _does_ learn the skills necessary to survive in its captive environment: looking to humans or silly puzzles for food. Allowing humans to be near them. Sleeping wherever they want because they’ve never seen a predator in their life and nothing can wreck them in their little captive world. They often don’t know how to interact with their own species at all. Plenty of animals who are introduced to other members of their species are rejected, or reject the experience themselves, because they don’t have the ‘instincts’ to be a social animal. Captive raised ostriches literally won’t associate _themselves_ with ostriches and ONLY seek out human interaction. They stop mating. They display to people only. Even _that’s_ not an ‘instinct’ that gets preserved.
And that’s not even taking into account the destruction to the habitat you release a pet into, the diseases it can bring or contract, the legality of releasing exotic species in different areas, etc.
You don’t have the first clue what you’re talking about if you think this octopus should or could be set free. It shouldn’t be a pet-I agree-but it’s too late to fix that. The best thing you can do is advocate for stricter enforcement of laws banning exotic animal trade and possession, and support bills for those laws in areas that don’t have them yet. Your approach is just fighting animal cruelty with animal cruelty.
Read that it was not captive bred, was taken from wild.
@@jasond.b-w The most destructive invasive species are Europeans.
@@jasond.b-wYou are badly confusing Mammalian/Avian parental nurturing with innate Cephalopod behavior.
That boy is special, he's definitely going places!

Anyone who uses creatures like this for human entertainment Breaks my heart. They’re actually a cognitive animal. They use critical thinking ,they use tools. They’re one of four things on this earth that actually use tools and think ahead of time what they’re gonna use them for. They operate on intellect. They’re intelligent, magnificent, and very sensitive creatures that do not belong in a fish tank in our living rooms.
@beffis1980 they are well taken care of. Do you realize their survival chance is cut in half if they were wild due to predators? Next time don't speak
Octopuses are amazing, I love them. They are so intelligent!
They really are intelligent tho❤
Octo-puses
@whatsup5791 they are actually eternal creatures (their souls) with temporary bodies - the only sad part of their lives will be here on earth. They have Heaven with their Creator, the Lord Jesus Christ, to look forward to! 💗
@@stephaniehorneLovesJESUSI've been alive for 23+ years and been around religious people almost my whole life but this is the first time I've ever heard this opinion from one of you people.
They are actually a cognitive creature. They use intellect and tools like humans would. They’re magnificent and they do not belong in someone’s living room for human entertainment. Quite sad.
The pun names are top-tier. From Swim Shady to Clamsterdam I am thoroughly impressed. Also I really love that they went above and beyond to save all the babies and make sure they get good and responsible homes 💙💚
a handful of clever names when you have 50 octopuses with 45 having no name.
I'm loving the names they gave the octopuses. 😂
so obviously don't get an octopus as a pet but interesting story
Octopus are awesome.
Octopuses are very neat animals!
Those were some funny names 😂
What a funny kid and a great Dad.
The company they ordered from should be held accountable
Kudos to the dad! Much love
Parents who allow their children to have pets are awesome. My father was such a jerk I wasn't allowed to have any pets so I never had those experiences.
I’m so sorry you had to grow up without pets. I hope you’re in a place now where you can adopt. I don’t know if you have pets already but I always encourage first-time pet owners to do their research before adopting!
You sound like a brat. I can picture your dad working 2 jobs for you to take karate lessons, guitar and soccer to only quit after 1 week. Your dad knew it would be him that would have to walk, feed and play with a pet that you would have also abandoned within a week.
Are you saying he was a jerk just simply because he didn’t let you have a pet or was he a genuine jerk by nature? Because if it is the former, thats just being entitled.
Honestly kids are not responsible enough for pets so you didn’t miss out on much. Fill up your house with pets as an adult! You’ll see how much responsibility they are lol
@@NovaSniper12oh be quite you little queef
The names!!!! Love it!!!!!
The “I think he nailed it” 🥺❤️ what a sweet young man
Legit BEST dad ever!! ❤ To BOTH his son & all the octopuses 😂😂😂😂 He most definitely earned that reward,,, poor mom lol
This shows the love of a father. That is beautiful. There is no way I would have done it. All that money spent just to have an octopus. My child would only have a fish.
That’s a start!
“It’s hard to have an octopus tank” well no duh!!!!!
The looks on his dad's face when she asked, "Would you do anything different?"
We all know what his answer would be ... even though he doesn't have the heart to say it.
Dude said his floors needing ripped out for his octopus tank leaking was "a little inconvenient" lmao. Dudes never had a single hard day in his entire life.
Best Friends. Congrats Dads
We don’t know the ripple effect in the universe. However, I have a feeling that this family has left a bigger impact, and they will ever know.
He may be a hero father to his son, but not so much for the octopus. They are cognitive creatures. They use critical thinking and tools every day. This is not an animal for a pet that belongs in our living room and a fish tank for human and entertainment. It breaks my heart.
Bill Nye the Octopi 😂😂😂😂
Definitely needs a bigger tank. If they truly understood and respected this amazing creature they would provide a space that is a reflection of said adoration.
The tank its in is actually just fine if you knew anything about aquaculture.
@@Radiogirl1931 aquaculturists are just sadistic jailers that need to collect things without souls like pokemon cards.
@@toolbaggers my fish would disagree with you but ok. And fish absolutely have little souls and personality. They are amazing.
Shut up Karen
@@Radiogirl1931 octopuses do not belong in aquaculture / hobbyist tanks
It's nice that the parents can afford that much equipment and the house did not burn down
It does need a bigger tank
No it doesn’t. It is in the last stage of its life and prefers a small safe space.
I learned my lesson !!
Wow what a great dad
That dad is an absolute hero. 😂❤
The dad may be a hero to his son, however not so much to the octopus. They’re very cognitive creatures. These animals use critical thinking and tools in their daily lives. Definitely don’t belong in a fish tank in our living room for entertainment.
@beffis1980 Oh, for sure. But he saved as many of the babies as he could too, and in the wild if they all hatched together, then they would have eaten each other. So he probably saved a lot of them from just dying as soon as they were born.
When they said it was shipped in a plastic bag 😢
Absolutely devastating! These creatures are extremely intelligent and have feelings. They’re very cognitive animals. They use critical thinking and tools every day like humans. The story is just heartbreaking for me. This could’ve been a life lesson for his son to love something but not be able to keep it or have it for human entertainment. Terrible that she’s in this tiny little tank so that a little boy is happy..
i can't wait until someone tries to correct me by saying "octopi"
The dad's face at the end 🤣
Kudos to the dad for his hands-on support contributing to his son’s mental and scientific scholarly development. After all, who else at his school can honestly say that they have an octopus 🐙 at home 🏡; he has 51; and I believe he’s Mastered his 7th Grade Science Project 🧫 🧬 in advance ❕❕🔬🛠️🪚🔨along with a kitchen renovation ❤
I watched this story because of a headline I saw while back about a octopus possibly pregnant from a skate, because there was no other octopus around. Apparently octopusses can procreate without a partner. Crazy stuff.
Stop sniffing gasoline and take a science and reading comprehension course. No way in hell an octopus and a skate could mate. The headline was a SHARK and a STINGRAY possibly mated. You (and the 7 idiots that gave your post a thumbs up) are proof that eye-witness testimonies are garbage. People like you keep seeing bigfoot and Jesus swimming in loch ness.
That's a good father, I thought octopus died after having babies. How did the eggs even get fertilized 🤔
I wonder if female Octopuses can store sperm much like female Guppies do🤔
he fertilized them himself obviously
Ian malcom proven right once again
The female octopus mated prior to being captured from the wild
Such a nice family😊
Not everything is meant to be a pet.
Sy Montgomery is an amazing author w a couple of books on Octopuses!
Lol the names!!!!
I did not expect this too be such a cute story
But telling your kid he's getting an octopus tank custom built next to a white range rover kinda was a prelude to what a wonderful life these kids have
The babies are so cute and the names are funny.
This is so beautiful !!!
I love this SO much. Fish hobby is so fun, scientific and educational. I’ve learned a lot. I love seeing my little container environment thrive. I’ve heard how smart octopi are and notoriously difficult to keep (they’re escape artists). Thanks for sharing the story 🐙 ❤
They are very sensitive and cognitive animals. They use critical thinking daily along with tools only four creatures on this earth do that, them being one. Absolutely heartbreaking to me. She was literally shipped to them in a plastic bag with water. I cannot imagine the amount of fear she must have endured then to just end up in a fish tank in their home for human enjoyment and entertainment… heartbreaking
Wow all I can say is lol why would you get your kid a pet octopus??
Spoiled child
Cool 😎 pet octopus 🐙
I'm dying over the names they chose. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'm glad they were fortunate enough to do this fun experiment! His kids will always remember this for the rest of their lives.
This family has a great sense of humour 😂❤
octopuses are smart belong in ocean not confined square glass tank with no stimuli
Love how they named the jars of babies after a town with a famous brothel district
It even had the red lights
@@malibooyaw they just need little poles. don’t report me on that comment
No way the octopus is happy in that environment…shameful.
That explains why Terry kept escaping
Happy enough to lay eggs though
It’s sad!
Please report this to PETA. I know I keep commenting this but if enough of us do it maybe it will be stopped.
@@EM-mw2qr no child should be able to own an octopus because they cried until they got one. That when the parent needs to sit down and explain to their child that it’s wonderful that they love that animal. It’s a beautiful creature and they’re extremely intelligent and sensitive animals. But they also need to be in the ocean in the wild where they belong. They don’t belong in an aquarium in your living room. That it’s just not fair to the animal. And if you truly love this animal, you would understand that and it’s OK to be sad because you want one, but one day you will understand. This is mind blowing.
And for the person who said, she’s happy enough to have babies. That’s a shameful statement. It’s not like she had much of a choice once the eggs were inseminated.
So cute.
This is why you shouldn't have octopus as pets, ever, for your own amusement!!!! I don't care if they remind you of aliens, kid, but you can still admire them from afar, etc. Octopuses are incredibly intelligent creatures that should not be kept in small enclosures! Where are all those babies going to live now? They need to live in their own environment, including mom!
Damn right !!! 😮😮😮
Right, their own environment where 1 out of 100 live to adulthood. Why do so many people act like pets should be in their own "natural" habitat but the same people are just fine living in their air conditioned home sleeping on a comfy mattress? We are apes. Why are we better off extending our lifespan but not the pets? Even if only 10% of those babies find a proper aquarium to live in, that's a whole lot more that got to live a full life compared to being born in the ocean.
I'd rather have octopus plushies as pets instead of real ones.
They need to get this child a season pass to the local aquarium, if there is one at a reasonable distance.
100% agree
I love Jay-Sea and Sea-on say.
This is so cute. ❤❤❤❤
Considering the look on dad's face, the answer is "no". He definitely doesn't want to do it again. I get that he loves his son, but the fact that their house almost burned down and a forced remodel clearly shows how much money was spent. I don't think dad wants to lose that amount of money again.
“He nailed it!” 🥰
Daaaayum! He sure did! 😱😱
I don’t think any dad could have received a better/more heartfelt compliment! 🥰🥰🥰
Love this for so many reasons! ❤❤😂
Wow what a crazy set up ❤

I think Daddy and Son Son nailed them pet names. 💯💪Amazing effort DAD how you went out your way to fulfill lil man.

Good thing the boy didn't want an elephant.
The term "speak out" implies that everyone was waiting for them to say something about this.
living with octopuses! are new normal🤣
This is so great!! They are so cute. I hope they can all be homed at aquariums or released..? 😊💛
The dad is so gorgeous, good dad, young andd wealthy, god damn what a lucky wife
I love the names❤
I thought octopus moms starve themselves to death after giving birth.
The ocean would be a nice home
This whole story is so sweet! Between all those Octopus names and "Clamsterdam", you can really tell how silly this family is together and how much they love there is in that house.
On the other hand, why does nobody know the term Octopi, but me? Not even the professionals she was talking about at the end?? I think she just said the thing that was easiest and made the most sense at the time. But, it is "Octopi" for the plural. Look it up!
He does look Alien. !!
Ok. I’ll ask for the obvious question: who f’ked the octopus?
I love this story! ❤
This episode of Maury was _crazy..._
After the female octopus lays her eggs, she spends the rest of the time protecting them and keeping them alive. Once the eggs hatch, the mother dies, as she has not eaten since she laid the eggs.
The names are hilarious, and it sounded like they learned the hard way, but an octopus really isn't a pet...
It belongs in the ocean not in a house 😢
But what about the predators!
Really? It was born in captivity. You can say that about every pet animal It deserves to be in the wild. Many idiots believe that and release invasive species into the wild. Good example look at Florida :)
They are food & pets. Just like the bible says.
Yea I agree or atleast a bigger aquarium area. Terry is in prison in that tank. But they r cool tho ❤
That's not your place to say that!😂😂😂
Nobody said they stayed for the dad jokes
Hey That’s looks like squidward tentacles the octopus from SpongeBob 😀
