I dunno man, God Eater 3 was pretty fun and the combat mechanics are unique enough that it did not really feel like a flat out clone to me. It does its own thing well enough to get a pass from me. Code Vein on the other hand, while decent, everything they were trying to do kinda missed the mark aside from maybe the character creator. The 'souls like' inspiration is also very obvious. On a fresh run it's mostly fun with any build though, and the freedom to swap builds whenever you want in Code Vein is really nice. John Smith I love them. I think i’d pick them over Monster Hunter, but simply because the gameplay is faster, it’s got a good story, and i am biased towards the anime look. As you said, the concept is very interesting to me as well
I'm surprise you didn't talk about the other indie dark souls game that came out around the same time as Mortal Shell. Hellpoint ( a game I find a lot morre fun than mortal Shell)
My issue with Code Vein isn't the speed, Bloodbourne is fast and fantastic. The issue with it and a lot of soulsclones is that the weapons feel like they're slicing through butter and the enemies stagger and react basically the same to any attack. Feels more like WOW than Souls. You're kind of just out stating enemies a lot of the time as opposed to dynamically battling them. In short, it's missing the *feel.* And for all the crap Deck 13 get their souls clones actually have that feel
Nioh is one of the more popular examples these days. You take the stamina bar of Dark Souls and the same essential punishment for dying, and you put it on a European samurai while referring to stamina as Ki. Pretty neat idea, pretty neat execution. Team Ninja, the company responsible for Dead or Alive, seemed to wanna do their own thing with the Dark Souls formula, but they actually made some nifty improvements. With each type of melee weapon Willy wields, (say that 3 times fast) he can use them in different ways, emphasizing either attack, defense or a balance of both. It's not quite as diverse as Bloodborne, but it makes up for its limits by taking some influence from The Elder Scrolls; gaining experience with different weapon types by using that weapon type more. You can't make a custom character, but you can still develop different builds throughout the game, very much like Soulsbornes. It's no surprise it got a not quite as intriguing but still pretty damn good sequel this year. Some claim that it isn't a Dark Souls clone, but by definition, it has the same checkpoint based progression where monsters get the same health restoration that you do. And don't worry, just because it takes a lot of influences from Dark Souls doesn't mean it didn't put any effort into its own things. Such as pitting you against a Gashadokuro or Oda Nobunaga. Well played, Team Ninja. Salt and Sanctuary is something I like to refer to as a Soulsvania. As in, it is both a stamina-based Soulsborne type game and a sidescrolling Metroidvania. You parry, you build your character throughout the game, you rest from checkpoint to checkpoint. There isn't much to it other than being an experimental hybrid of game genres, but it is a very well-made experimental hybrid of game genres. The presentation is as gorgeous and gothic as you could ask for, it's as gratifying as ever to kill a giant boss, and the developers put in a lot of effort paying homage to Dark Souls. It paved the way for other Soulsvanias like Blasphemous, though Salt and Sanctuary will probably remain the most faithful to its inspiration as you can get. Remnant From The Ashes is weird. I like to refer to it as Gun Souls because you get to switch between Dark Souls-esque close range content and Uncharted-like third person shooting. Games like Bloodborne have used guns before, but Remnant uses them more efficiently against eldritch monsters in a sci-fi world. If you like versatile shooting elements in your RPGs, you'll definitely wanna give Remnant a shot. No pun intended.
When the studio split, I think it's incredibly odd that Airship decided to do a spinoff centered around War and Death instead of doing a game centered around Strife. Since the other three Horsemen had their parts of the story told...why didn't they just wrap up the whole gang before doing something a spin-off?
My man preaching! 🙌 Game is CRIMINALLY underrated, a bit slow to start but the gameplay is so clean. Shooting feels good, perk system is super fun, and fairly priced DLC that is actually worth it? I'm in for a sequel.
@@SimonSater Most definitely! I played through the game primarily in single player and enjoyed it, the coop is great too but does make the game a bit easier.
I never judged difficulty on Dark Souls. I used to Judge on OG Devil May Cry 3 on the ps2's difficulty. But now, I judge based on Crash Bandicoot 4 level difficulty
You have missed the Dark Souls clone game was Piccled Ricc (Dark Souls meets Pickle Rick from Rick and Morty). However, it was removed in Steam for copyright infringement from Cartoon Network.
_Vicious Gambling Agreement_ sounded like it was a sequel to _I Can't Believe It's Not Gambling_ so I'm disappointed it's not about fighting anthropomorphic FOMO to get roll on some lootboxes.
Nobeta has been on my steam wishlist for a while now, but I usually don't like to buy early access games. But after this it will definitely be my next purchase.
i think theres a bit of confusion around dark souls and darksiders 3. its very clearly not a souls like in any way unless you could an connected world as souls like. its much more a metroidvania styled game compared to souls
I feel like I'm literally the only person who doesn't like Mortal Shell. Like, I get the appeal but on one hand it feels too shameless and on the other hand the mechanics and world dont really grip me.
I want to like Code Vein more, but the combat feels nowhere near as satisfying as Dark Souls 3. It feels like you're swinging a foam sword around like a maniac, the weapons have no impact at all when hitting things. The one thing Code Vein has up on Dark Souls is build freedom, but I don't find myself wanting to go back to experiment while I have beaten Dark Souls 3 at least a dozen or so times, even attempting an occasional challenge run. It's a fine game, but it lacks a lot of what makes a 3rd person action/adventure game feel satisfying to play imo. It's a shame the DLC put a blemish on an already flawed game, the complete opposite of Fromsoft games where the DLC is often considered the best piece of content lol
"Capture Power or Forgive"? So it took the Save/Sacrifice mechanic from the excellent Soul Sacrifice, which is legitimately the Dark Souls of Arena Hunting games, at least in terms of aesthetics and lore (since they both borrowed heavily from Berserk).
It's funny, I think some of the characters in Codevain are buster, Gwynevere is just a larger being, making her sizes seem larger to us smaller people.
I say you should do an episode on weird visual novels/dating sims so you have an excuse to cover Angels with Scaly Wings, which is actually really good, and Lovers of Aether, which was literally an April Fools game.
I hope you check out Hellpoint, it came out around just before Mortal Shell but doesn’t seem to have gained as much traction. I’ve seen lots of people comparing the two
Code Vein is really weird because if you play it solo it's way too hard. Enemies are much spongier than the average Souls enemy, they gank you constantly, and their attacks do way too much damage without enough telegraphing. It's clearly balanced with the assumption that you'll have an AI buddy to pick up some of the slack, but then if you do that, the game becomes way too easy. It also has this problem where most of the cool/weird/fun weapons and Blood Codes are stuck in late game with no easy ways to access them early, so a lot of builds just take FOREVER to get off the ground. You could try using it in a NG+ run, but the NG+ in Code Vein is just not fun at all. I swear they just triple every enemy's stats and call it a day Still a pretty good attempt though. It's probably my favorite Souls clone.
Code Vein is God Eater 3 meets Bloodborne except it has the occasional graphical hiccups. It's still a great game with AWESOME character customization, but it's not without it's flaws. If you want a game like Bloodborne that's anime as FUCK, Code Vein is that game!!!😍😘😁
Honestly I didn't realize it had been that long between part 1 and 2 of this! I think I'll pick up dark souls 3 and that witch game I didn't know much about em and they seem fun
I know I'm late to the party but I went through both videos expecting you to talk about Jedi Fallen Order to no avail. Not that I'm a huge Star Wars fan to begin with, but it is a fun Soulslike game and I think it deserves a mention or two in a possible sequel.
kind of surprised you didn't bring up gunfire's other well known souls-like (Some might even say the more well known of the 2), Remnant: From the ashes, it's the closest I think we will ever get to Dark souls with guns,
As a pretty big Darksiders fan, I really wasn't into 3. I did finish it, but I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as the other two. Probably because I'm not a fan of souls-like games and MUCH preferred the way the first two games worked. It felt like they were just chasing the souls-like craze that so many other devs are which sucks because not only am I not a fan of them, but we already have plenty of souls-likes these days. Meanwhile we really don't get many traditional zelda-like open world adventure games these days. Which was one of the reasons I loved the first two, especially the first. It's like Zelda + God of War. They did eventually release a classic mode where it's less souls-like, but by that time I had beaten the game and I wasn't going to play it again just for that. They should have had that mode at launch.
I'd definitely like to try out Code Vein, I played the demo it was good but the environments are samey, easy to get lost even with the minimap. I hope the deluxe drops to $20, because I don't think it's worth it getting above that when Dark Souls 3 and Bloodborne are selling lower during PSN sales.
Why not a do a video of monster hunter clones, games like gods eater, soul sacrifice delta or freedom wars (you may need a pstv if you don't have a vita)
I'm not sure if this counts, but SLAIN: Back From Hell needs to be included next time. Sure, it's 2D, but it features check points, memorization of enemy patterns, and brutal sword-based combat.
I just really wish Famine and Pestilence were in the Darksiders universe. I don't think Fury and Strife(the concepts, not the characters) are unique enough, as they both lead to death by violence like War.
The old Paragon assets are available for people to use. That same character model is the first boss in Bullets Per Minute. Except that game is much less jank lol

Feels more like WOW than Souls. You're kind of just out stating enemies a lot of the time as opposed to dynamically battling them. In short, it's missing the *feel.* And for all the crap Deck 13 get their souls clones actually have that feel
In dakr souls/bloodvorne your weapons also affect your enemies like staggering them if you hit them with a certain weapon.
I liked Code Vein, the DLC was definitely bad though. I also was very pleased when they tied it into God Eater for a pretty decent twist.
The full Little witch nobeta is finally releasing tomorrow.
I just love your stuff. You have the only 20mins + video game videos I can stand, let alone get stoked about
16:07 lmao you used the OST of Legend of Legaia, precisely the world map theme
Remnant: From the Ashes. Play it, thank me later.
My man preaching! 🙌
Game is CRIMINALLY underrated, a bit slow to start but the gameplay is so clean. Shooting feels good, perk system is super fun, and fairly priced DLC that is actually worth it? I'm in for a sequel.
I'm interested af in this game! Do you know if it is still good even as a single player?
It is easily one of my favorite games. I highly recommend it.
@@SimonSater Most definitely! I played through the game primarily in single player and enjoyed it, the coop is great too but does make the game a bit easier.
@@XannnyTanner Dayum, was on sale till last week on ps4! I will wait next sales then, thank you!
4:43 God hand 3? I never even knew we got 2.
that little witch game was awesome dude! Keep up the good work!
PS: i still miss the alfredo areyano shoutout :c
a very nice follow up to that first video I can't wait for the next one
I love myself a vicious gambling agreement... Especially when I gamble against farting vikings
the character creation code vein monster factory episode was incredible
Honestly I loved Code Vein more then Dark souls I just had more fun with the game
I never judged difficulty on Dark Souls.
I used to Judge on OG Devil May Cry 3 on the ps2's difficulty. But now, I judge based on Crash Bandicoot 4 level difficulty
You should play salt and sanctuary it's like dark souls but 2D with the twist.
I got a tylenol headache medicine ad before dark sasi section lol
discovered your channel through recommendations lately and been bingewatching since! great content here
I have played the 3 darksiders (on pc) and although the third started weak it got better the more I played, someday I have to try genesis
I think Code Vein is good, not great, but good...like...a 7/10, i enjoyed it a lot (although the dlc was a total joke)
I laughed out loud at the fart cloud viking. My coworkers think I'm crazy and now I'm laughing out of nowhere. Now they'll know I'm crazy!
You have missed the Dark Souls clone game was Piccled Ricc (Dark Souls meets Pickle Rick from Rick and Morty). However, it was removed in Steam for copyright infringement from Cartoon Network.
Salt and Sanctuary, anybody?
_Vicious Gambling Agreement_ sounded like it was a sequel to _I Can't Believe It's Not Gambling_ so I'm disappointed it's not about fighting anthropomorphic FOMO to get roll on some lootboxes.
Damn... I was almost over the loss of paragon and now the pain is back 😞
Nobeta has been on my steam wishlist for a while now, but I usually don't like to buy early access games. But after this it will definitely be my next purchase.
i think theres a bit of confusion around dark souls and darksiders 3. its very clearly not a souls like in any way unless you could an connected world as souls like. its much more a metroidvania styled game compared to souls
I'm always up for more dark souls clones videos.
Paragon was my favourite game ever! I still have the PS4 agora theme on. The clones pale in comparison.
I feel like I'm literally the only person who doesn't like Mortal Shell. Like, I get the appeal but on one hand it feels too shameless and on the other hand the mechanics and world dont really grip me.
I'm in the same boat. Mortal Shell felt like everything I disliked about Dark Souls all in one package.
@John Smith No u
I can't believe iron pineapple turned out to be Jake Baldino!
I say you should do an episode on weird visual novels/dating sims so you have an excuse to cover Angels with Scaly Wings, which is actually really good, and Lovers of Aether, which was literally an April Fools game.
your hair looks so good in this vid
Fart Cloud Viking would be an awesome band name.
I swear they just triple every enemy's stats and call it a day
Still a pretty good attempt though. It's probably my favorite Souls clone.
Code Vein is God Eater 3 meets Bloodborne except it has the occasional graphical hiccups. It's still a great game with AWESOME character customization, but it's not without it's flaws. If you want a game like Bloodborne that's anime as FUCK, Code Vein is that game!!!😍😘😁
didn't he talk about it in the first one?
Wheehooooo bless you cowboy dad, I've been binge watching your videos happily for the past couple days 🇨🇱 ♥️ 🤠
Someone forgot about a little gem known as "Remnant from the ashes".😅
those hats in Code Vein are not ushankas. It calls "papaha"
Check out money plane if you want to see another vicious gambling agreement but with Fraiser
kind of surprised you didn't bring up gunfire's other well known souls-like (Some might even say the more well known of the 2), Remnant: From the ashes, it's the closest I think we will ever get to Dark souls with guns,
"You better get ready to cry , get ready to cry , get ready to cry , GET READY TO CRY"
I just want you to know I clocked that Fred Durst joke and I appreciate it.
You forgot the most funnest mechanic in mortal shell playing the lute lol
That Nobeta looks very fun! Definitely on my bucket list next steam sales.
YEEES, Great Video would like more of it ;'D
Hair is looking good, my man!
I'm not sure if this counts, but SLAIN: Back From Hell needs to be included next time. Sure, it's 2D, but it features check points, memorization of enemy patterns, and brutal sword-based combat.
Iron Pineapple made this into a series already, lol.
Wrong! Title can be confusing at first glance but not the same thing.
Your hair looks good
I just really wish Famine and Pestilence were in the Darksiders universe. I don't think Fury and Strife(the concepts, not the characters) are unique enough, as they both lead to death by violence like War.
Thank you so much for all videos you made. You are one of my absolutely best youtubers ever. :)
Jsi borec. Mám moc rád tvoji tvorbu.
The old Paragon assets are available for people to use. That same character model is the first boss in Bullets Per Minute. Except that game is much less jank lol
